Baratta jennifer - Thanks!

"Drive carefully." Alex warned Diz the next day.

"I will." He said getting in the car as Kara went to her cousin and hugged her goodbye.

"You know you can call anytime?" Kara asked her cousin.

"Yes."

"Good. And make sure you do." She added before hugging her brother.

"You are only going to be gone a few weeks." MJ said trying to escape the hug.

"You love hugs really." His sister said.

"Go hug Diz." MJ said before finally being released as Kara hugged her mother goodbye.

"Remember to have fun." Alex said to her daughter.

"That still sounds weird coming from you." Her daughter smiled into the hug. "But I will."

"I'll look after both of them." The older Kara said to her niece. "And don't forget I can get you anytime."

"Thanks." The younger Kara said before finally getting into the car.

"You okay?" Kara asked her sister as the older Alex watched the car drive off.

"Sure." Alex said.

"Come on, let's all go get some ice cream." Kara said.

"Are you preparing for a mass shortage?" MJ asked when Kara brought a tray over stacked with huge portions of ice cream.

"Can never have too much ice cream." His aunt said.

"Pretty sure that isn't true." Her sister said.

"Based on what?" Kara asked.

"Years of med school." Her sister pointed out.

"Like they know about ice cream." Kara said eating a large spoonful. Seeing the judgemental gaze from her daughter she asked.

"What? I got you one with fruit."

"A cherry doesn't count." Her daughter countered.

"Well today is about your aunt." Kara argued.

"Pretty sure that much ice cream is really bad for humans." Her daughter said.

"Where did I go wrong with you?" Kara asked her as MJ asked his mother.

"How come you don't encourage me to eat junk?"

"Because I love you." His mother countered. "Would you prefer me to demonstrate it with public displays of affection?"

"No, I'm fine with limited sugar." MJ said.

"So how about a games night tonight?" Kara asked.

"Yeah, maybe not." MJ said.

"Why?"

"Being thrashed in not great for our egos." MJ pointed out.

"So you'd be fine if there was a team to beat?" The teenage Alex asked him.

"Yes."

"So we should invite Martin and Steve?" The teenage Alex suggested.

"That would work." MJ agreed, but when he saw his mother's expression he asked. "What?"

"I don't know if I should be proud or disturbed."

"Hi." Kara greeted as she opened her front door that evening.

"You look confused." Steve said.

"Umm, yeah."

"Alex said it was Games Night. Did we get the wrong date?"

"No. Just the wrong home." Kara said. "It's at Alex's."

"Sorry, we'll head over." Steve said.

"Actually come in for a moment. I have something for you guys." Kara said going to one of the drawers before pulling out two boxes.

"Did I miss your birthday?" Martin asked Steve.

"No." Steve said as Kara passed each of them a box.

"People connected to me can become targets." Kara explained. "Those watches have a button if you push it, it will activate an alarm that I can hear. I'll come get you."

"Don't you have enough to do without worrying about us?" Martin asked.

"I'll always worry about my friends." Kara said.

"Well thank you." Steve said. "But what is stopping someone using these against you?"

"They are locked to your DNA." Kara said. "So only you can activate them."

"How'd you get-? Never mind, I can guess." Steve said. "Thank you for these."

"Of course. I mean I hope you never need them, but if you do, you have them." Kara smiled. "Anyway, I'm sure the others are waiting for us over the road." Kara said.

"Can I borrow you for a moment?" Steve asked Kara.

"Sure."

"See you over there?" Martin asked his uncle.

"Yes." Steve smiled.

"Thanks for the watch." Martin said to Kara before leaving.

"You didn't have to do this." Steve said when it was just him and Kara.

"Yes I did. And I should have done it before. If I had, maybe you wouldn't have got hurt."

"Or you would have got hurt as well."

"I have powers." Kara reminded him.

"Yet, you keep getting hurt." Steve said. "And when we were going to go to the magic show and Alex got really pale, you said she had nightmares about you being stabbed. They weren't just nightmares were they?"

"No. Lobo stabbed me in front of Alex. She thought I was dead. Everyone did, except Alex, as in sister, and Lena who kept the faith in my body healing."

"So Lobo has kinda killed you twice?"

"Yes."

"But you're okay?"

"I'm not a zombie of that is what you mean."

"No I mean, are you okay?"

"I think so."

"And Lobo?"

"Is actually immortal so I will never be free from him. But right now he is on another planet."

"And the whole Tycho thing?"

"Who knows." Kara shrugged.

"Well if there is anything I can do, just let me know. Obviously, I would be useless in a fight, but I have skills. Speaking of, I'm pretty sure you owe me a bowling match."

"Which I will give you, but can we wait? I want to keep an eye on Alex."

"As in the younger one?"

"No. Kara went back to college today, so I want to make sure Alex is okay. And if she isn't we do not want to let her loose on a bowling alley."

"Want me go?" Steve asked.

"Of course not. You still up for games night?"

"My ego is still a little battered after the last one, but sure." Steve said. "And I have to ask, were we invited so MJ and Alex would have someone to beat?"

"You are sounding very paranoid." Kara said.

"That wasn't a denial." Steve pointed out as he and Kara walked over to Alex's.

"And it wasn't a lie." Kara said.

"Obviously, I mean you can't lie." Steve pointed out before saying. "I saw Cory today."

"How was he?"

"Grateful for all you are doing."

"Well I haven't actually achieved anything." Kara pointed out.

"About that, you know there might not be an answer and if there is it may not be a happy answer."

"I know."

"Yeah well, just don't shoulder too much responsibility." Steve said.

"Has Alex been talking to you?"

"Which one? Actually it doesn't matter, neither has talked to me. Why?"

"Alex, as in my sister, gave me a similar responsibility talk."

"Well your sister is wise." Steve said as they entered the house.

"Are you trying to suck to mom?" MJ asked hearing the comment. "That won't make her go easy on you." He said jogging upstairs.

"Hi Steve." Alex greeted walking to the hallway.

"Hi." He replied.

"Pizza is still twenty minutes away so make yourself comfortable." Alex said. "And while you do, do you mind answering some questions."

"Do I need a lawyer?"

"No. Should you?" Alex said confused.

"I don't know, you look kinda serious."

"She always looks like that." Kara pointed out as they sat down.

"So what do you need?"

"Have you noticed any increase in metas or strange injuries?"

"No, in fact it is the opposite. There has been a drop in metas. Or at least those who claim to be metas. Although …"

"Although what?" Alex asked.

"There were a bunch of corporate guys who came in last week following a squash accident. As part of the work up we ran bloods. Two of them had meta markers in their bloodwork. But the strange thing is one of them was an old college buddy of one of the other doctors who said they hadn't been a meta a college."

"He could have hidden his powers." Alex pointed out.

"I said that. But Marsch was convinced he wasn't."

"Was his injury related to powers?" Alex asked.

"No. And he showed no signs of having powers, so the result could have been an anomaly." Steve said. "But those tests are normally pretty accurate."
