Baratta jennifer -Kara will be getting, and needing, a lot of support.

As the two teens ate breakfast the next morning the teenage Alex found herself being hugged from behind, nearly resulting in her cereal flying everywhere.

"You okay?" The teen asked her mother.

"I am now." Kara said releasing her daughter. "Sorry about last night."

"Why are you apologising?" The teen asked confused.

"You kinda got sent away."

"It's fine, you needed it." The teen said. "But I missed you."

"Me too. Get to school, and tonight we'll do something."

"Okay." The teenage Alex said slipping off the stool and following MJ out of the house as Eliza poured two coffees, which the older Alex took, passing one to Kara.

"How are you really doing?" Eliza asked once the teens had gone.

"It was a rough night, but Alex and Lena helped me through it."

"Make sure you take it easy today." Eliza warned.

"I'll make sure she does." The older Alex said as Kara sipped her coffee. Seeing her sister wince Alex asked. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Kara?" Eliza asked.

"I think I burnt my tongue." Kara said.

"You mean you have solar flared?" Alex guessed.

"Maybe." She said looking at the coffee, trying to use her heat vision on she said. "Definitely."

"I have to give it you, you manage to get the best photos." Cat said as Kara entered her office.

"What?" Kara asked.

"But in a way it makes our job harder as the photos already say it all." Cat said passing Kara the tablet that had photos of the rescue.

"When were these even taken?" Kara asked.

"I don't know. But you look less happy than I would have thought seeing how many people you saved."

"I didn't save everyone."

"No but you saved as many as you could."

"It wasn't enough." Kara said. Seeing the pain in her eyes Cat asked.

"What happened down there?"

"The roof was collapsing. I had to stop it, so I held it up." She said looking at the picture on the screen. "But what that picture doesn't show you is ten feet away there was a car with a girl trapped in it. A girl I had to stop helping. A girl who died with me a few feet away. I literally heard their heart stop and I did nothing."

"Technically you stopped a few blocks from collapsing. Something that would have hurt many many people." Cat said. "I've said it many times before, but you can't save everyone. You did the best that you could. That's all you can do."

"The city doesn't agree, I heard them when I came back."

"There are plenty of stupid out there. You did what you could."

"It doesn't feel enough." Kara said before she sneezed.

"What was that?" Cat asked backing away.

"Oh, I solar flared." Kara said.

"So that was a germ filled sneeze?" Cat asked.

"Umm."

"Go home. Now. And send in maintenance so they can disinfect this place."

As Kara sat in her apartment, her head pounding, someone rang the doorbell. Immediately she tried looking through the door before realising she couldn't and cursing.

Walking to the door she was about to open it when she heard her sister's voice in her head talking security. Obediently she put the chain on the door and opened it.

"Hi Kara." Steve greeted. "What's with the chain?"

"Sorry." She said closing the door and removing the chain before opening the door again. "What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see how you were, yesterday couldn't have been easy."

"No." She said sneezing.

"Are you sick?"

"Yeah."

"Is that even possible? Should I get Alex?"

"I'm fine. I solar flared so don't have powers, which means I can get Earth germs."

"Can I get you something?"

"No, I'm okay." She said before coughing. "I just need sleep."

"Want me to go?" He offered.

"Actually, can you stay for awhile. Alone I just keep thinking …"

"About yesterday?" Steve guessed.

"Yes."

"Go sit down, I'll make some tea." Steve smiled.

"Alex, visitor." Vasquez said pointing to the conference room.

"Who is it?"

"Lucy."

"Hey, everything okay?"

"That depends on many things." Lucy said. "But you have reached a new status with my father. A status so far only Lois has achieved."

"What have I done?"

"Asked the President to order him to reveal more information about those notebooks."

"What happened?"

"There was a bit of a stand off." Lucy said.

"Your father defied the President?"

"Not exactly. He claimed that he was ordered by the then President never to reveal the origins to anybody. He even has a signed letter."

"So he is staying silent?"

"Yes. But the thing is, that letter was witnessed by the then Chief of Staff, who is still alive. According to him he never knew about the contents or origins of the journals, it was only the President and my father. But he did say there was a letter left by the President that effectively ordered my father to reveal the information. The only thing is that letter is missing. No one has seen it for over twenty years." Lucy said. "But the one good thing that came from this is my father's letter was dated. Which helps date when the Journals came to Earth."

"That's something I guess." Alex said.

"How's Kara doing?"

"Not great. Feeling guilty and has no powers. She'd appreciate a visit."

"I'd love to, but I have to get back to DC." Lucy said. "But I'll call her."

As Kara started to wake up she felt warmth from under her, which comforted her cold body. Holding tighter to the warmth she suddenly heard a male voice ask.

"Feeling better?"

Realising she was clinging on to Steve she sprung back in embarrassment on to be hit by a wave of nausea. Sprinting to the bathroom she then emptied her guts. Trying to ignore her pounding head she cleaned her teeth before walking back to the lounge. Not immediately seeing Steve she looked round and saw him walk towards her with water.

"You do wonders for a guy's self confidence." Steve replied.

"I'm so sorry." Kara said.

"I was joking." Steve said. "Let's get you sat down." He said guiding her back to the couch. As Kara sat down Steve asked. "How are you feeling?"

"Think I'm dying."

"Well these may help." He said taking some pills from his pocket. "With the head and the fever at least."

"Thanks." Kara said taking the pills from Steve, who then passed her the bottle of water. Having swallowed the pills she leaned back and shut her eyes before saying. "Think the pills are broken."

"They just need some time to work."

"Hate time." Kara complained before feeling a blanket being placed over her. Opening her eyes she said. "Thank you."

"No problem, anything else I can get you?"

"No. I'm okay." Kara said before noticing Chewie had jumped up on her lap. "Where did Chewie come from?"

"Well there was a mommy Chewie and a daddy Chewie-" Steve started.

"I meant when did he get into the apartment?"

"I don't know. After you fell asleep on me I dozed off. When I woke up he was on the couch. I assumed he had been hiding in your bedroom. But right now rest is more important than solving the mystery."

"Okay." Kara said dozing off again just as the front door opened.

"She okay?" The adult Alex asked quietly as she saw her sister sleeping on the couch.

"Slight fever, plenty of nausea and a bad head. In a human I'd say flu, but in Kara, I really don't know."

"She'll be okay. As soon as her powers come back she'll be flying straight to the sticky buns." Alex said.

"I'll leave you to it. If you need anything let me know." Steve said.

"Thanks." Alex said before asking. "You okay? You look tired."

"I was working on victims from the collapse until a few hours ago, I'll be fine after some sleep." He replied. "Call if you need anything. I'll see you later."

As the teenage Alex entered the apartment she saw her mother asleep on the couch, buried in blankets as her aunt sat to one side.

"Hi." The older Alex whispered.

"Solar flare?" The teen asked.

"Yeah. You may want to stay at mine tonight." The older Alex whispered.

"Okay." The teen agreed reluctantly.

"She'll be okay and if she perks up we'll join you over the road." Her aunt assured her.

"Okay, I'll get a bag." The teen said going to her room. When she came out again her aunt suggested.

"Why don't you bring some food over in a couple of hours? You may have more luck than me in getting your mom to eat." Seeing her niece still had a frown etched on her face she added. "She'll be okay."

00

"Alex?" Kara asked opening her eyes.

"Hi, how are you feeling?"

"Really weird dreams."

"About what?" Her sister asked.

"Something to do with using Steve as a pillow then trying to throw up over him. And why are you looking at me like that?" Kara asked before her face fell and she asked. "That wasn't a dream?"

"Well I can't say for sure, but Steve was definitely here looking after you. And you did fall to sleep on him."

"Which you know how?" Kara asked.

"Mom sent a picture."

"What?"

"She came in and saw you and was convinced I had been lying when I said you were just friends. I mean you two did look cute." Alex said showing her the picture.

"I can never face him again." Kara said as the front door opened.

"You're awake? How are you feeling?" The teenage Alex asked coming in with a bag of food.

"I'm okay?"

"Really, you are bright red."

"She's just embarrassed." The older Alex said.

"About what?" The teen asked.

"Just ignore your aunt." Kara said glaring at her sister.

"Are you still sick?" The teen asked her mother.

"Yes." Kara said.

"You hungry? I have food?"

"I'm still feeling a little queasy."

"You need to eat." Her sister pointed out. "And seeing you are no longer claiming to be dying every ten minutes, you must be feeling better." She added as she took the food from her niece and started to put it in a bowl.

"You are are one mean doctor." Kara said to her sister before looking at her daughter and saying. "I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"I said I'd hang out with you tonight."

"Not your fault you are sick. And we can hang out when you are feeling better. And you'll get better quicker if you eat."

"You need to spend less time with your aunt and Lena. You used to be so innocent." Kara said.

"You sure you are going to be okay?" The teen asked ignoring the comment as she sat next to her mother.

"A hug would help."
