Baratta jennifer - Kara will need them.
"Eliza?" Kara called sleepily as she walked out of her bedroom the next day and saw her foster mother on the couch with Chewie.
"Hi Sweetie, how are you feeling?"
"Okay, less ergh, still tired."
"Which is why you need to rest."
"I am, I mean I have slept for the last," Kara started before looking at her watch, "wow, I slept for twelve hours."
"You needed the rest." Eliza said. "Can I get you anything?"
"No, and you are meant to be resting too." Kara said.
"My wrist is fine." Eliza countered. "And you need to eat."
"I am a little hungry." Kara confessed before asking. "Is Alex okay?"
"She's fine. She's at school."

As Kara watched movies with her sister that evening she asked.
"What if this is what they wanted?" Kara asked.
"What and Who?" Alex asked
"Tycho's team. And me losing powers. I mean Alex is unprotected right now."
"No I increased her protection detail and Ruby is leading it."
"That's not the same."
"I know and my team is already looking into what may have caused it. Right now we have no proof it was anything other than an accident." Alex said. "But you are right there is a chance they wanted you to solar flare, which is why you need to focus on your recovery." Alex added as the door opened and the teenage Alex walked in.
"Sorry, do you want me to go?" She asked.
"Of course not." Kara said holding out her arms.
"Still no powers?" The teen guessed as she hugged her mother.
"No. But no cold today."

"How's your sister?" Vasquez asked when Alex came into the DEO the next day.
"Still no powers." Alex said. "But no longer sick." She added before looking at one of the screens and asking. "What are you doing?"
"Going over everything from before and after the earthquake looking for anything odd."
"Odd?"
"Well we're not sure what exactly, but we finally made progress with the drug investigation and then there is an Earthquake that ends up with Supergirl being taken out of action."
"You think there is a connection?"
"I don't know, but based on past performance we can't rule it out." Vasquez said as Rose approached.
"Ma'ams."
"What is it?" Alex asked.
"Your sister has just left her apartment. Vulture team want to know if you want them to follow."
"Yes." Vasquez said.
"We put a DEO tail on her?" Alex asked confused.
"It seemed prudent." Vasquez pointed out as Lena walked through the control room.
"Bad time?" She asked.
"Not sure there are ever good times any more." Alex said. Seeing Lena's raised eyebrow she apologised. "Sorry, I just hate facing so many unanswerable questions."
"How's Kara?"
"Got over her cold. So that's a start. But still no powers."
"And how is she dealing with what happened in the tunnel?"
"Still not talking much, but then again she has mainly slept for the last few days." Alex said. "So what brings you down here?"
"You asked me to look out for any deals that looked a little suspicious."
"Did you find any?" Alex asked, now giving Lena her full attention.
"Not exactly. But there are some rumours going round about a Brett Chandler."
"Who is?"
"Up until six months ago not much. A Harvard Business school graduate, who moved to National City to make his fortune. He had three jobs in three years, which is normal. But never made a name for himself. Then all of a sudden his negotiating skills jumped up. He has overseen two big mergers in the last three months. One of those involved Avo."
"Didn't Sam used to work there?" Alex asked.
"She did, so I had her ask around. Apparently the CEO had no intention on merging. But in the end the merger happened on very unfavourable terms. The CEO, David May, changed his mind over night. After the merger his PA lost her job and no longer felt loyal. She told Sam that Chandler had uncovered a dirty secret, she wouldn't say what, but it was bad enough for May to roll over."
"Vasquez, lets keep tabs on Chandler, maybe J'onn could have a chance encounter." Alex said.
"On it." Vasquez said walking off.

"You look better." The teenage Alex said as she returned home.
"I feel better." Kara said.
"But still no powers?" The teen asked.
"No." Kara confirmed. "But seeing I am better what do you want to do tonight?"
"Want to watch a movie?" The teen asked.
"You don't want to go out?"
"Shouldn't you stay here?"
"I'm feeling better. I just don't have powers." Kara pointed out.
"Which you have been used too. Plus there are lots of people out there who want to hurt you or worse."
"You seriously have to stop hanging out with your aunt." Kara said. "Let's have a little optimism."
"Fine, then what do you want to do?" The teen asked.
"We could go to the theatre?" Kara suggested. "Or go out for a meal? Or go ice skating?"
"Ice skating?" The teen asked confused.
"Just trying to think outside the box." Kara said.
"Can't we just hang out without doing anything? Or have a games night?"
"You sure that is what you want?" Kara asked.
"Yes."
"Okay. With the others or just us?" Kara asked.
"Seeing we are meant to be looking after Uzheiu shouldn't we be with her."
"Good point." Kara said.
"Then why do you look hesitant?" The teen pressed.
"I don't want you to feel like I'm neglecting you." Kara said.
"How are you neglecting me?"
"Well, I said we'd hang out and then the tunnel happened, then I got sick and-"
"Mom, I'm fine." The teen said. "But if we do games night, you are on my team."

"Alex, stop cheating." Eliza warned.
"I'm not." The older Alex protested. "The only one cheating is Kara."
"Aren't you a little old to be blaming your sister?" Eliza asked, to MJ's amusement.
"Want to play some video games while they figure this out?" MJ asked his cousin who nodded and stood.
"The question is, isn't Kara too old to be cheating?" The older Alex countered to her mother.
"I'm not old." Kara protested causing MJ to snort before going upstairs with his cousin.
"But no denial about cheating?" The older Alex asked her sister, ignoring the kids.
"Aren't you meant to be being nice to me, while I don't have powers?" Kara asked her sister.
"You've milked it long enough."
"Alex be nice." Eliza warned.
"Thank you." Kara said.
"You are unbelievable." Alex commented to Kara.
"I didn't do anything … apart from switch a couple of cards."
"See told you." Alex said looking round to see Eliza had left the room. Shaking her head Alex sat back on the couch and asked. "How are you doing?"
"Okay."
"Want to talk about what we discussed last night."
"No, I'm over it. But thank you for listening."

"I think I am going to head up. Don't stay up too late." Eliza said looking at Kara. "Rest is more important now than ever."
"Don't worry, as soon as Alex has finished her game, we'll go."
"Okay then. Good night." Eliza said leaving the sisters alone.
"You coming to the DEO tomorrow?" Alex asked her sister.
"Why? It's not like I can do anything." Kara pointed out.
"So you can get tested."
"What good will that do?" Kara asked.
"The lamps might help?" Alex suggested.
"They haven't so far." Kara said, her frustration obvious.
"May be you don't want them back." Alex said.
"Of course I do, while I am sitting here, I can't protect Alex."
"I know, but what if part of you blames your powers for Alex being in trouble in the first place?" Alex asked.
"So you think I'm crazy?"
"No, I think you need time to get over everything that happened." Her sister said.
"I hate time." Kara grumbled.
"I know." Alex said pulling her in for a hug. "But sometimes time is the best healer."

"You remember you are meant to be resting?" The older Alex asked walking into the kitchen the next evening where her mother was cooking.
"As I keep telling you I am fine. Besides good diet is key to recovery. And take away doesn't count."
"How is your wrist?" Alex asked.
"It's fine. Like I said from the start it is nothing to worry about and I don't need to be here."
"Are you saying you don't want to spend time with me, Kara, your grandkids?" Alex asked.
"You know full well that is not what I'm saying." Eliza said.
"Mom, you have done so much for me, especially after Kel died. Let me look after you for a change."
"Alex, I appreciate what you are doing, but you have enough on your plate, especially while your sister doesn't have powers."
"Kara lived without powers for a long time." Alex reminded her.
"I know, but not on Earth." Eliza said.
"I know and I am doing what I can to help, but this time I think Kara just needs a push." Alex said before changing tact and saying. "All the more reason for you to be here."
"Fine. I'll stay." Eliza said.
"Thank you. But I mean it, while you are here, will you please let me look after you?"
"I am, that's why I'm cooking. It's safer for everyone." Eliza smiled.
"My cooking isn't that bad." Alex said. Seeing her mother's doubt she said. "It's better than Kara's."
"That's not exactly an achievement." Eliza countered before asking. "Where are the others?"
"Kara is out with Alex. MJ has basketball." Alex said as the front door opened. "Or so I thought."
"Hi guys, can you look after Chewie tonight?" Kara asked coming into the kitchen with her daughter and her dog.
"Of course we can." Eliza smiled.
"Thanks, we'll be back later."
"She seemed happier." Eliza commented. "Let's hope it isn't an act."
"If they are going out that means Alex believes Kara is doing better." The older Alex said.
"Are they going to be safe out there?" Eliza asked frowning.
"Some of my Agents are keeping an eye on them, they'll be fine." Alex said.

"You really okay?" The teenage Alex asked her mother.
"I'm fine. Quit worrying." Kara replied.
"You are breathing kinda heavily."
"It's a steep hill." Kara countered.
"Sure you don't want me to carry your bag?" The teen asked.
"I'm fine. Besides we are almost there." Kara said.
"Almost where?" The teen asked.
"It's a surprise, have a little patience."
"Are you really telling me to have patience?" The teen asked amused.
"Yes."
"Isn't that a little hypocritical?"
"I have no idea what you are talking about." Kara said as the path flattened out and she. "Finally."
"We're here?" The teen asked.
"Not yet, just over there." Kara said pointing.
"You mean the ice cream shop?" The teenage Alex asked. "You know there were plenty at the bottom of the hill?"
"No, beyond that." Kara said a little breathlessly. "Let's go."
"Go where?" Alex asked looking round.
"There is a path through there."
"Through where? It's just bushes."
"Follow me." Kara said leading her to a small gap. "This way." She said moving onto the path that snaked for a while before opening up into a small public garden.
"How did you even find this place?" Alex asked.
"By accident. I was rescuing someone the other day, obviously before the whole losing powers thing and I kinda stumbled across it. I thought we could do some sketching, or just talk." Kara said.
"Sounds good. But do you need to sit down for a moment."
"I'm fine. But hills really make me miss my powers." Kara said sitting on a bench.
"You doing okay?" Her daughter asked.
"I'm fine. I'm just sorry I have not been there for you much." Kara said.
"You've been ill." Her daughter reminded her.
"So what have I missed?" Kara asked.
"I got an A on my history assignment. But I am not allowed to mention it in front of MJ or Alex."
"I bet." Kara smiled.
