Baratta jennifer -Thank you.

"Talk to me." Alex said walking towards Vasquez the next day.

"It's a little frustrating."

"What is?"

"Trying to figure out who may have had the drug." Vasquez said. "Based on the sewage analysis, there are at least seventy five people in this area alone. But no one is standing out."

"What if they cancel each other out?" Alex asked.

"Huh?"

"If they all work for rival companies wouldn't they cancel each other out?" Alex asked.

"Maybe." Vasquez said not sounding confident.

"Maybe we need to find failing companies and listen to the rumours going round."

As Kara collected her coffee from the counter she heard a familiar voice greet.

"Hi Kara."

Feeling a sinking feeling she slowly turned and said.

"Steve." Before the doctor could say anything else she added. "I am so sorry."

"For what?" He asked confused.

"Everything I did when I was ill."

"What exactly do you think you are apologising for?" He asked confused.

"Honestly it is a little fuzzy, but using you as a pillow, probably drooling on you, vomiting, a-"

"Kara, it's fine. I was happy to help." He smiled.

"I should also apologise for being a bad friend."

"What?" He asked lost.

"I spent the time complaining about everything I was feeling, I never stopped to ask how you were, I mean you were working on the victims for hours and I know not all of them made it." Kara said.

"You were sick." Steve said. "And you had a lot to work through."

"That doesn't mean I should have ignored what you were going through. So I am sorry. How are you doing?"

"I'm okay and don't worry about me. I mean there were lots of us in those ORs who all went through it together and we help each other, but no one knows what you went through apart from you." He said leading them to a table. As they sat he asked. "So are you back to full strength?"

"No, still no powers."

"So how do you get them back?"

"They'll just come back, sometimes they need a push."

"What kind of a push?"

"Jumping into an elevator shaft worked."

"What happens if they don't come back when you do that?" He asked frowning.

"So far that hasn't happened."

"So you okay?"

"Just feel a little vulnerable. I guess I forget how confident powers make me feel."

"Do you want me to take you back to your apartment?" He offered.

"Aren't you meeting Martin?"

"He's nearly eighteen, pretty sure he can find his way home." Steve pointed out.

"I appreciate the offer, but I'll be fine." She said. "Besides I don't want Alex to worry, so I need to be as normal as possible."

"Speaking of." Steve said nodding over Kara's shoulder before calling as three teens approached their table "Hi guys."

"Hi." The teenage Alex said.

"MJ? You okay being seen with us?" Kara asked looking round in an exaggerated way.

"That's the one good thing about last year, my social standing can't get any worse."

"I kinda feel insulted by that." Kara said.

"So a bad time to ask if you are buying?" MJ asked.

"I'll get these." Steve offered standing.

"I'll carry." Martin said following him.

"How was school?" Kara asked the other two teens as they sat round the table.

"There was a surprise test, so mom is going to be ticked with me." MJ said.

"But it was easy." The teenage Alex said.

"See, that doesn't help." MJ shot back before looking at his aunt and asking. "Are you back to normal yet?"

"No."

"Should you be out?" Alex asked.

"You don't ask MJ or your aunt that." Kara pointed out.

"They are used to no powers." The teen countered. "You're not."

"I got pretty used to it when you were growing up." Kara reminded her. "So quit worrying."

"We're back." Kara called coming into the house.

"You get lost?" Her sister called back.

"We had milkshakes with Steve and Martin." MJ said.

"That's nice." Eliza smiled at Kara who ignored the look and asked.

"How's your wrist?"

"It's fine." Eliza said. "Are you hungry?"

"Starving." MJ said.

"Have you done your homework?" Alex asked.

"No."

"Do that first, then we'll eat."

"But-"

"Don't you want to be in your mom's good books?" The younger Alex asked her cousin.

"Why does he need to be in my good books?" The older Alex asked her niece.

"Doesn't everyone want their mothers to be happy?" MJ asked. "And Alex is right so I'm off to do my homework." He said leaving the room followed by his cousin.

"What's he done?" The older Alex asked her sister.

"There was a surprise test today. Not sure it went his way." Kara said.

"That doesn't bode well for the weekend." Alex said.

"What's happening this weekend?"

"His latest SATs scores should be out."

"I'm sure he'll be fine. When he wants to be he is smart." Her sister said.

"We'll see." The older Alex said before asking. "Have you spoken to Kara recently?"

"Only by email. Why?"

"She called last night and seemed a little down."

"She's probably missing Diz." Kara said. "But I'll pry."

"Not exactly what I meant, but thank you." Alex said.

"Any time. Besides it gives me a chance to be useful." Kara said.

"You are useful." Eliza assured her. "Powers or not you help people."

"Well I feel like I help more people with powers. Then again, not sure the world agrees."

"What do you mean?" Eliza asked.

"There's loads of anti-Supergirl stories right now." Kara said.

"Ignore them." Eliza said.

"But they aren't wrong. I failed to save so many people in that Earthquake."

"You saved hundreds if not thousands." Her sister said before Eliza looked at both daughters and suggested.

"Why don't you two walk Chewie, while I finish dinner?"

"You are meant to be resting." Kara said.

"Don't." Alex warned. "She's too stubborn to listen."

Lying on her bed, feeling a presence in the room, Kara opened her eyes and saw Lobo standing over her bed.

"Hey Supes!" He grinned.

"What are you doing here?"

"We have unfinished business. Well we did. Now you are broken, you ain't much fun. So I thought I'd take mini-Supes and give her the live she needs."

"No." Kara said just as he plunged a blade into her stomach.

"Mom!" Alex called shaking her awake.

"Alex?" Kara asked confused as she opened her eyes. "Where is he?" She asked looking round.

"Who?"

"Lobo. He stabbed me, he was going to take you."

"It was a dream." The teen said hugging her.

"Dream?" Kara asked sounding lost.

"It's over." The teen said before asking. "Want me to get call Alex?"

"No."

"You're shaking." The teen said.

"I'll be okay." Kara said.

"You sure?"

"Umm, yeah, but maybe you could get me a hot chocolate?"

"Sure." The teen said leaving her mother and Chewie to go to the kitchen. But on route she went to her bedroom and picked up her phone to fire a message to her aunt.

"Alex?" Kara asked when her sister came into her room carrying her hot chocolate. "I told Alex not to call you."

"She was worried, and seeing how pale you are looking, she did the right thing. What happened?" She asked handing her sister the mug.

"I – it was just a dream."

"About Lobo?"

"Him killing me." She said holding her hand against her stomach. "It was so easy for him and that was when I had powers. What if he comes now?"

"He's not allowed to hurt you remember?"

"Like either of us believes that would stop him." Kara said.

"Kara I know you are scared right now and I know you feel vulnerable without your powers, but you need to believe it will be okay. Because if you don't have hope, what chance do the rest of us have?"

"I'm scared."

"I know, but you aren't alone." Alex said.

"Thanks."

"You going to be able to sleep?" Alex asked her.

"I don't think so."

"Then let's go watch some TV."

00

"I was so cold, and it hurt so much." Kara said about thirty minutes later. Knowing better than to interrupt her sister, Alex looked down at her and waited for her to go on. "When the blade went in, it hurt so much and I couldn't move. I was so cold and so scared. I couldn't breathe and that was worse than the pain. Then everything went dark and my last thoughts were all the things Lobo might do to Alex." When she didn't say anything else her sister reminded her.

"Alex is safe, so are you."

"People treat me like a god, like I shouldn't feel. But I do and I am scared."

"No one that knows you believes you don't feel." Alex said. "Kara what makes you a hero is that you can overcome your fears."

"I can't right now."

"Right now you don't have powers, which makes you feel vulnerable." Alex reminded her. "And part of me wants you not to get your powers back so you stay safe, but the thing is I know even without powers you'd try to help. Just like you did the first time you lost powers." She went on. "What I know about you is no matter how scared you are, no matter two the odds are stacked against you, you fight, you go on and you survive."

"I am a survivor." Kara said bitterly. "But I'm tired of surviving. There has to be more to life than just surviving."

"Kara-" Her sister started.

"I'm sorry. I'm just feeling sorry for myself. And you're right, I'm feeling vulnerable." Kara said.

"Powers or not I've got you." Alex said.

"I know. Thank you." Kara replied.
