Baratta jennifer - They are all in for rough rides.

"Going somewhere?" Kara asked when she returned to the DEO that afternoon and saw her sister packing up.

"Home, I want to be back when MJ gets home." Alex said picking up her bag. "Do you need something?"

"I can fill you in on the way." Kara said leading her sister out of the office.

"Everything okay?" Alex asked.

"It's fine, I was just going to catch you up on what I found, which isn't much, but thought you'd appreciate the update."

"Thanks." Alex said as they walked through the DEO.

"You doing okay?" Kara asked.

"I haven't interrogated any of Tycho's people if that is what you meant." Alex said.

"Not exactly, but I guess that is a step in the right direction." Kara said as they entered the car park.

"So what did you find?"

"Paul Agut is pretty straight forward. Never been in trouble. People speak well of him, except his brother. They had a big falling out during college and haven't spoken since. The interesting part was the brother, Frank, did work for a company that worked for one of Tycho's companies." Kara said as they got in Alex's car.

"Where is he now?"

"Not sure. But I gave Rose his details. Hopefully your team can find him." Kara said as Alex pulled out of the underground garage. "Anything else I can do?"

"No, it's fine. You are doing plenty." Alex said.

00

"Expecting someone?" Kara asked as her sister pulled into the drive way that had several large black SUVs.

"No." Alex said stopping the car and hopping out of the car. As she did one of the doors opened and James got out.

"James?" She asked, confused to see him.

"Hi." He grinned before seeing Kara who came and hugged him.

"What's going on?" Alex asked.

"Sorry about the fleet, but security has been tightened." James apologised.

"Want to come inside?" Alex offered.

"Sure." He smiled following Alex and Kara inside, while waving for his security detail to remain with the cars.

"So what brings you to National City?" Alex asked.

"I had a meeting in the city and I wanted to check on MJ." James explained. "Well all of you, but especially MJ after what happened last time."

"Well I am sure he'll love to see you. The last few days have been rough on him." Alex said.

"Yeah? You okay if I take him out tonight?"

"If he wants to that'd be fine." Alex said as they heard the front door.

"Mom? What's with all the cars?" MJ called as he came into the house with his cousin.

"Through here." Alex called moments before MJ appeared. On seeing his uncle he stood awkwardly in the doorway, remembering how he had treated his uncle the last time he had seen him.

"Hi MJ." James said going over and hugging him. "How are you doing?"

"Okay. About before I-"

"MJ, it's fine. It wasn't your fault." James assured him. "I've got tickets for the game tonight. Want to come?"

"Mom?" MJ asked looking at his mother.

"Go have fun." Alex smiled. Once they were gone the younger Alex asked.

"Where's Uzheiu.?"

"Out with J'onn." Her aunt explained.

"Looks like it is just the three of us." Kara said looking at her daughter and sister.

"So we can go do some training?" Her daughter asked.

"See I was thinking more, pizza and movie." Kara said.

"That won't help you stay safe."

"It will help me stay happy." Kara countered.

"Training will help me stay happy." Her daughter countered pouting.

"Fine." Kara conceded before looking at her sister and saying. "This is your fault."

00

"For someone who claims to like training, you seem to spend a lot of time sitting around, not training." Kara pointed out as she sat next to her sister.

"Training you is a full time job." Alex shrugged as she increased the difficulty of the robot her niece was fighting slightly. Seeing her sister's frown she said. "Don't worry, we are still way below the safety threshold." Despite the assurance Kara still winced when her daughter was hit by an energy bolt.

Checking the readings on the screen Alex said. "She's fine."

"Still don't like seeing her getting hit." Kara said.

"Have you figured out what you will do if she does follow your footsteps?"

"Right now, I am trying not to think about it." Kara said wincing again as her daughter was hit once more. "Sure she is okay?"

"All readings are normal. Plus she got straight back up again." Her sister said moments before the teenage Alex was hit again causing her to fall from a ledge onto the ground.

"Alex!" Kara said moving at Superspeed to where her daughter was.

"I'm fine." The teen said getting to her feet.

"Maybe we should stop." Kara said scanning her daughter for breaks.

"I'm fine. Ask Alex." The teen said.

"She's fine." The older Alex said over the intercom.

"Told you." The teen said.

"I still think we should stop." Kara said.

"Ten more minutes?"

"No."

"Five then ice cream?" Her daughter suggested.

"Are you trying to bribe me?" Kara asked.

"Is it working?" The teen questioned.

"Yes." Kara conceded.

-00-

"So I hear you are going for MIT" Alex said to her niece as Kara ordered the ice cream.

"Yeah, but it's a long shot. I mean my essay sucks. I can't really say anything about my life can I?"

"There are ways to be creative." Alex said.

"That's what Kara said. And she's been helping me, but it just feels, I don't know empty."

"Have you included the work you did with Professor Ramsey?"

"That wasn't exactly work."

"Still worth including." Alex smiled as Kara returned with a tray loaded with ice cream.

"Okay, that one is for you." Kara said passing a bowl to her daughter with four large scoops in. "Don't look at me like that, you need calories and each scoop is a fruit flavour so is kinda healthy." She then turned her attention to her sister and passed her a smaller bowl with just two scoops. "For you chocolate chip and cookie dough."

"Thank you." The older Alex said as Kara took the final bowl with multiple scoops as well as caramel source, from the tray. Seeing her daughter's disproving glare she said.

"I'm comfort eating."

"Did you watch tonight's interview?" The teen asked.

"Not yet, it's preemptive comfort eating." She said before asking. "Sure you aren't feeling any adverse effects of the training?"

"I'm fine." The teen said before looking at her aunt and saying. "I tried to talk to MJ, but he kinda shut off. He said Jess had already caused me enough issues and he'd deal with it himself."

"He still harbours a lot of guilt about the way he treated you." The older Alex said. "But don't give up on him."

-00-

"How was the game?" Alex asked when MJ and James returned home.

"Good." MJ said. "I'm going to bed." He said before hugging his uncle and saying. "Thanks for tonight."

"Anytime." James smiled.

"Coffee?" Alex offered as MJ disappeared.

"Sure." James said following her to the kitchen. "MJ told me what happened."

"Did he talk about how he was doing?"

"Kind of. There was a lot of deflection. But he opened up a little." James explained. "I know the last time MJ came to visit me was a disaster, but if you were both willing I'd love to have him visit."

"I think that's a good idea." Alex said.

"You do?" James asked surprised.

"He needs a distraction."

"Unfortunately my next few weekends are maxed, but after that …"

"Send me dates and we'll figure something out." Alex said as they heard the front door open.

"James?" Eliza greeted surprised.

"Hi." James said hugging her. "I was in the area so went to a game with MJ."

"I'm sure he appreciates it. Are you staying long?"

"No. I have to get back to DC." James said. "But it's good seeing you."

00

"Morning." Eliza greeted when MJ came into the kitchen the next day.

"Morning." MJ yawned.

"How are you this morning?"

"Ignoring it being a school day? Fine." He said heading to the fridge. Aware his grandmother was watching him he grabbed the juice and turned to face her and said. "I'm okay."

Before Eliza could respond the front door opened and Kara, Chewie and the younger Alex entered the house. Sensing an opportunity to escape he said.

"See you tonight." As he walked to the front door the teenage Alex said.

"You know we will be early if we leave now?"

"And you're complaining?" MJ asked.

"No, just confused." The teenage Alex said following him out of the house.

"Where are the kids?" Alex asked coming into the kitchen a couple of minutes later.

"Already gone to school." Eliza said.

"Is there a test?" Alex asked confused.

"I thing MJ was avoiding questions." Eliza said before looking at Alex and adding. "Something he gets from you." Eliza pointed out before saying. "I think it is time I went back to Midvale."

"Why?" Alex asked.

"Ignoring the fact my wrist is fine. You need to focus on MJ."

"But-"

"If I need you I'll call." Eliza assured her daughter. "Right now we both know MJ needs you."
