Baratta jennifer - Indomitable will be having a lot of fun over the next few chapters.
"Supergirl is being sued." Vasquez said as Alex and Kara entered the DEO the next morning.
"For what?" Alex asked.
"Better to ask for what she isn't being sued for." Vasquez said. "So far there have been over thirty cases filed."
"Isn't it too early in the morning?" Kara asked. "I mean are the courts even open?"
"Here? No. But no such problem on the East Coast."
"What have I done on the East Coast?" Kara asked.
"More of a case of what you didn't do. You didn't stop a crash, didn't stop an Earthquake-"
"I get the drift." Kara said. "What about Kal?"
"Also getting sued." Vasquez said. "Lucy has already started to look at some of them."
"Can't we stop this?" Alex said.
"Technically anyone can bring a civil case." Vasquez said. "But what I don't understand is this also opens Indomitable up for attack."
"Indomitable wouldn't do this unless he was sure he would gain from it." Alex said.
"Which means he is about to destroy Supergirl's reputation." Kara said wearily. "Maybe we are going about this wrong. Maybe it is time to make peace."
"Sorry what?" Alex asked.
"Maybe I should form an alliance." Kara said.
"With Indomitable?" Alex asked, her tone implying she felt Kara had lost her mind.
"Yes." Kara said.
"I think that is a dumb idea." Alex said. "But, your cousin could."
"You want Kal to join Indomitable?" Kara asked.
"Yes." Alex said, although it sounded like a question. "He has always been anti the DEO."
"But he has never joined anything."
"Not true." Alex said. "Most of it was when you were missing, but he has history of working in a team."
"But Kal is an alien." Kara reminded him.
"Also it would end worse for you." Vasquez said. "I mean Indomitable would turn it into a big PR stunt, 'Supergirl calls in the big guns' or 'Supergirl recognises the need for a man'."
"Don't make a career in headline writing." Alex said. "But you have a point."
"So that comes back to me." Kara said.
"You can't team with him." Alex said.
"But I could talk to him."
"It's a bad idea." Alex said.
"You just suggested Kal joins forces."
"Yeah well, I like you a lot more than Clark." The comment earning a glare from her sister. "Well I do."

As Kara tried and failed to write her article a shadow fell across her desk. Looking up she saw an old friend.
"Hi Kara." Barry smiled.
"Barry? What are you doing here?" She asked standing and hugging her friend.
"It's been a while. I thought we could catch up."
"So no immediate crisis?" Kara asked.
"Not that I know of. Does there need to be?"
"No, it makes a nice change that there isn't." Kara smiled. "But if there is no crisis, how come you are here?"
"Can't I want to catch up with a friend?"
"Sure, but something tells me this isn't it."
"When did you get so paranoid?" Barry asked.
"Sorry, this whole situation has me on edge." Kara apologised.
"I get it." Barry replied. "Why don't we go get ice cream? It always makes you fell better."
"Sounds like a plan."

As Barry and Kara sat eating ice cram Barry suddenly said.
"So Indomitable reached out to me."
"What did he say?" Kara asked.
"He invited me to join his posse." Barry said. "What got me was he approached me, not the Flash. He knew who I was. And his recruitment speech was pretty polished."
"Are you joining him?" Kara asked.
"Of course not. Unless you want me to? That's why I am here. I could be your inside man."
"I can't ask you to do that."
"I know. That's why I am offering." Barry smiled.
"Except he knows we are friends, it will just look like I am clinging to power." Kara said.
"He approached me." Barry reminded her.
"It doesn't matter he'll figure out a way to twist it." Kara said miserably.
"Unless we have a falling out." Barry said.
"You and Indomitable?"
"No you and me." Barry said. "That way there would be no tie back to you."
"Part of me wants to send you in there and that makes me feel so bad." Kara said. "It would put you in so much danger."
"I can handle danger."
"And Iris? What does she think?" Kara asked.
"She wants to see him stopped. Something about him gives her the creeps." Barry said.
"But does she want you to be the one stopping him?"
"Sure."
"Very convincing." Kara said dryly.
"You wouldn't be sending me in. Like I said I'm offering." Barry said. "And I also knew you'd say no. But I know I need to do this. There is no harm in having a further conversation." He shrugged. "And maybe I'll find out he is what he claims. But if I am doing this and if I am going to protect you, we can't talk, until I have enough. It could be months." Barry said.

"Want to talk?" J'onn asked as he joined Kara on the balcony.
"Nothing to say."
"Your face tells a different story." J'onn said.
"I feel so much more isolated now than ever before."
"In what way?"
"The country seems against me. No body wants Supergirl. Metas I used to work with have distanced themselves. People are going missing. I've temporarily lost Barry. Lobo is out there somewhere." Kara listed. "And next year I lose Alex."
"It's Boston, not another Galaxy." J'onn said. "You aren't losing her. And you aren't losing me either." He said pulling her in for a one armed hug.
"Thank you." Kara said leaning into his chest.
"How's Alex taking everything?"
"She's far more resilient than me." Kara smiled softly as the older Alex came onto the balcony.
"Kara, the Pres- Oh hey J'onn."
"Alex." He smiled. "Everything okay?"
"I don't know. The President wants a meeting with Supergirl and Cat."
00
"Thank you for coming." The President greeted as the trio entered his office. "Please take a seat." He added.
"Why are we here?" Cat asked.
"As always, straight to the point." The President smiled. "We are here because of Indomitable and we need a way forward." He then looked at Supergirl and said.
"Indomitable is already positioning you as a mere tool of this government. He is setting you up to be the enemy."
"You want her to quit?" Cat asked.
"I don't, although, some of my Advisors do. But I don't." The President said to Cat before turning back to Supergirl. "The country needs you, I need you." The President went on. "However, if I were you I'd probably walk away, but then again I am a career politician, not a hero."
"Why do you advisors want me gone?" Supergirl asked.
"You have been positioned by Indomitable to be a tool of the DEO and my Administration. If Indomitable shows you are the enemy, that makes me the enemy."
"You are talking about a coup." Cat said.
"Only if it is done outside the bounds of democracy, unfortunately I think he is too smart for that. My prediction is the next election will see his candidates up for election. In four years time the country will be controlled by Indomitable. However, while this plays out as part of the normal electoral process we can do nothing, nor should we do anything." The President said. "What concerns me is any influence on the democratic system that may make it not a fair process."
"So what do you want me to do?" Supergirl asked.
"Have patience. I have been in this game a long time. It is not hard for me to see where this is heading. Indomitable wants to alienate you and he will succeed. But if Indomitable is as bad as we think he is, at some stage we will need you help."
"And until then Supergirl allows herself to be Indomitable's punch bag?" Cat asked.
"Of course not, but I can't stop that. What I can do is make an offer. I would like you to formally work for the DEO as an Agent. You will be afforded the same protection as every other Federal Agent. Seeing Indomitable has convinced the world you already do, do you have much to lose?"
"While she doesn't, you do." Cat said frowning. "If you are the one who signs her up when public opinion turns it will come back to bite you."
"Of that I am aware, but I can't sit back and do nothing." The President said. "Also if Supergirl isn't tied to CatCo then you word will carry more weight."
"No it won't. Everyone knows Supergirl is mine." Cat said.
"So you think I should stay independent?" Supergirl asked Cat.
"CatCo can protect you in the civil courts and provide you with the best defence lawyers for criminal cases." Cat said. "But it can't protect you in the criminal court as much as the DEO. That said there is another option."
"There is?" The President asked hopefully.
"Yes. Back when President Marsdin was in charge she set in motion a plan to protect Supergirl and any other alien who defended this planet."
"Surely Barker undid all of that." Alex said.
"He did. But President Shaw silently adopted it."
"In this Universe?" Kara asked trying to keep track of the different events across the multiverse.
"Yes." Cat said not understanding the question.
"Why don't any of us know about it?" Alex asked.
"The immunity it provides could have been controversial." Cat said. "Maybe after Supergirl went missing the plan was revoked?"
"Let me make some calls." The President said.
"Wait." Cat said.
"What?"
"I want Supergirl protected as much as anybody, but if this option exists and we play it, it will play right into Indomitable's hands."
"So we do nothing?" Alex asked.
"More like we keep it in reserve." Cat said.
"And you Supergirl. What will you do? I know you have stepped back, but that also feeds into his plans. That said if you and him attend the same rescues he shows you up." The President said.
"Indomitable can have the big saves and do as much positioning as he likes. But there are plenty of ordinary people out there who need help." Cat said.
"You're right and I am not turning my back on them." Supergirl said.
