Baratta jennifer - Diz will get a little support.

"What's up with you?" The teenage Alex asked Diz, who was sprawled on the apartment couch two days later.

"Your aunt is trying to kill me."

"Not sure she is the trying person, pretty sure if she wanted to kill you she'd just kill you." Alex said.

"She can enjoy it more this way." Diz said.

"What has she done?"

"Set me an impossible challenge. Which I keep failing."

"Is that why you are here rather than at Kara's?"

"Yeah, can't cope with the disappointment on her mom's face right now."

"Where's Kara?"

"Finishing an assignment."

"So what's the challenge?" The teenage Alex asked.

"She drops us in the desert, then Rice and I have to complete the course in a time that is five minutes better than my best time. There is no way I can shave five minutes off in a week. Everyday I fail means another day of doing it."

"What are the rules?"

"No outside help."

"And?"

"That's it. Apart from the time."

"So you could self help?"

"Self help?" Diz questioned.

00

As Diz and Rice ran through the desert the next morning Diz came to stop.

"Why the hell aren't you running?" Rice asked turning to Diz. "You are slow enough as it is."

"We both know I can't run the course in the required time, so I am looking for plan B options."

"Plan B?"

"Self help."

"What?" Rice asked.

"The rules are no outside help. Nothing about not helping ourselves." Diz said.

"So."

"Look here." Diz said moving some bushes to one side. "We can come back later and hide a bike. Tomorrow we ride it to the base."

"If you are wrong what happens to us?"

"Another half marathon the day after?" Diz guessed.

"What if she throws us out? I need that scholarship."

"You think I don't?" Diz asked.

"Like she'll throw you off." Rice countered.

"You really think she won't?" Diz asked. "You don't think she thinks Kar can do better?"

"So what's the plan?"

0-0

"Failed again?" The younger Kara guessed as she saw Diz sprawled on her bed that afternoon.

"Will pass tomorrow." Diz said

"That's optimistic."

"Either we pass or we are thrown off." Diz said.

"What does that mean?" Kara asked sitting on the bed.

"Best you don't know." He said as his phone buzzed.

"Why is Rice messaging you?" Kara said passing him his phone.

"Team work." Diz said sitting up. "I have to go. I'll see you later." He said kissing her and leaving.

"How are you doing on the missing persons?" Alex asked as Kara walked into her office.

"Ergh." Kara said.

"What's wrong?"

"They have genuinely vanished. Except people don't do that. Unless … do you think there is a portal we don't know about?"

"We are scanning energy signatures and we've not seen any evidence. Then again they could have masked it. I mean Dodds knew how we detected them, we have to assume they can counter every capability we have." Alex said.

"What if there is ship, like Frax's? Could they be being teleported?"

"We haven't detected any ships." Alex said. "Kara, you can come up with one hundred different reasons why they have gone missing, but until we have any evidence they are just speculation."

"I know and if I had evidence to follow, I would. But I don't … Maybe that is the answer." Kara said.

"What?"

"Maybe the lack of evidence is the clue."

"Or, maybe you need to take a step back." Alex said.

"Probably." Kara sighed.

"Ma'am, there is an alien attack down by the harbour." Rose said entering the office.

"On it." Supergirl said.

00

"That doesn't look so bad." Alex said as she looked at the screens in the control room which showed a small fluffy animal, which looked like a pink version of the Red Panda."

"Don't be duped by the cuteness." Ruby said.

"A phrase I didn't think I'd hear at work." Vasquez said dryly as Alex asked Ruby.

"What do you mean?"

"That little furball has a nasty temper." Ruby said showing images on the other screen of a car that had been chewed to shreds.

"That did that?" Alex asked.

"Yes." Ruby confirmed.

"Supergirl." Alex said over the radio.

"Just arriving." Kara said.

"Be careful, that creature is vicious. Think Gremlins."

"This cute little fella?" Supergirl asked landing in front of it.

"Ye-" Alex started to say only to see the creature launch itself at Kara moments before yelping in pain and whimpering.

"Apparently he isn't fond of Kryptonians." Ruby said.

"I think he broke his teeth." Kara said picking up the creature.

"Bring him to containment." Alex said.

00

"You know you can't keep him?" Alex asked when she entered the cell where Kara was playing with the alien.

"Gizmo is just scared." Kara said.

"Gizmo?"

"You made the Gremlins reference."

"You still can't keep him." Alex said. "Right now we need to figure out where he came from. Don't suppose he talks?"

"More purrs. Don't know if it a language though."

"You recognise it?"

"No. But there was a planet I visited when I was a kid. The plants were pink. He could be from there. I mean it he'd be well camouflaged."

"That doesn't give us a huge amount to go on." Alex pointed out. "What I want to know is how he got here."

"No idea, but I think he is hungry." Kara said.

"Because he keeps trying to bite you?"

"He's just playing. Not like it hurts."

"You. It would us." Alex countered. "We are running tests to figure out what food is safe. When we have we will feed him. In the mean time you should go home."

"So should you. Don't you have an early morning torture session with Diz?" Kara asked.

"Yes. That is why I am going."

00

"I'm back." Kara called as she entered the apartment.

"Hi." The teenage Alex called.

"Everything okay?"

"Yes. But Chewie knows you cheated on him."

"What?"

"The furry little creature." The teen said before adding. "From the news. We kinda feared you'd bring it home."

"Your aunt said I couldn't." Kara said sitting next to her daughter. "Besides I could never replace Chewie." She said stroking him.

"Did it hurt you?"

"No. More the other way round." Kara said. "He broke his teeth on me."

"Is it going to be okay?"

"I hope so."

"What about you?"

"What about me?"

"Are you okay? You seem stressed."

"I'm fine." Kara said. "I am just maxed at work."

"You promise?"

"I promise." Kara smiled. "But I am hungry. Want to walk Chewie and get ice cream?"

"Sure."

00

"You cheated?" Alex asked early the next morning as Diz and Rice rode into the base thirty minutes before the cut off.

"You said no outside help." Diz said. "It's our bike, we put it there."

"I'm disappointed." Alex said.

"That we cheated?" Rice asked.

"No, I'm disappointed it took you four days to figure it out."

"So we're not sacked?" Diz asked.

"No. The object was to work as a team. You did." Alex said. "Go get showered and go home."

Wearily the two guys walked off as Supergirl walked up to her sister.

"You think they are friends?" Kara asked joining her sister.

"Nope. But maybe they are less enemy like."

00

"Hi." Diz said as he entered the kitchen where the teenage Alex was sitting with Chewie.

"You're back. Does that mean you passed?"

"Thanks to you. Please don't tell your aunt we talked about it."

"I won't." Alex assured him.

"Where are the others?"

"Kara went to the library, she should be back any minute. And MJ still isn't up."

"So how come you are here?" Diz questioned.

"To meet Kara, but if you are free we both know who she'd rather see. So I'll catch you later."

"You don't need to go. Especially as I owe you."

"It's fine. Besides I can train."

"Seeing Kar is stressing about an assignment, want to train together later while she finishes it?" Diz asked.

"You sure?"

"Kar would prefer not to have me distracting her. Plus like I said I owe you, without that hint I would have another half marathon tomorrow." Diz said as the front door opened moments before the younger Kara entered the kitchen.

"Are you a free man?" She asked her boyfriend.

"I am. How's the assignment?"

"Ergh."

"Want to focus on it?" Diz asked.

"Yes, but I want to see you too."

"Alex and I are going to do some training." Diz said. "Want us to do that now so you can finish it?"

"Yes." Kara said before looking at her cousin. "You okay with that?"

"Yes, but can you look after Chewie?"

"Of course." Kara said.

"We'll see you later." Diz said kissing Kara.

00

"Hi." The older Alex greeted as she got home.

"Hi mom." Her daughter said not looking up from her computer.

"Where's Diz?"

"He and Alex are training."

"Hasn't Diz has enough training?" Alex asked.

"Apparently not." Her daughter said.

"Is he avoiding me?"

"No. Me."

"You two have a fight?"

"No. He's giving me space so I can finish this assignment."

"You know it is spring break?" Her mother asked.

"Yes, but this counts for half my marks in this module. I'm almost done."

"Where's your brother?"

"Upstairs. Maybe sleeping, maybe gaming."

"Okay, I'll leave you peace. Don't work too hard."

00

"I thought you were hanging with MJ?" The older Kara asked when her sister entered her apartment.

"He's gaming, Kara is doing and assignment and Diz is training with Alex."

"So I gathered. You think they are okay?"

"They would have called if they weren't." Alex said before asking. "What are you up to?"

"I am still trying to figure out all these missing persons."

"You sure they are really missing?"

"No. But Watkins did report her sister as missing to the police, which makes it look real."

"What about the maybe fake homeless woman?"

"No further contact." Kara said before hitting a few buttons before a graph came up. "What I have done is plotted all the confirmed missing and their powers."

"Okay." Alex said.

"And then this is Vasquez's plot of powers used by Indomitable." She said puling up another graphic. "See the correlation?"

"Yes." Alex said pulling the laptop towards her to take a closer look. "This backs the theory Indomitable gets his powers from others."

"But why take so many?"

"Based on this, the transfer isn't permanent." Alex said.

"So what he sucks the life and power from them and moves to the next?" Kara asked.

"I don't know. Maybe." Alex said.

"What happens to those he has been using?"

"No idea. But seeing they aren't showing up any where, they may be dead."

"He kills them?"

"Again, no idea. But, unless we find a pile of bodies, we don't have much to go on."
