As Alex walked into the DEO a week later Vasquez approached her and said.
"We just had another report from Nia and Brainy."
"They okay?"
"Yes, but there are rumours about Earth and the treatment of aliens. Or rather the mistreatment."
"Mistreatment?" Alex asked.
"Details are a little vague, but torture featured in the reports."
"Could there be truth in them?" Alex asked.
"Maybe. I mean we have seen nothing but we can't rule it out. Brainy said they would dig deeper and try to get details."
"Keep me posted."
"You okay?" Vasquez asked.
"No." Alex confessed. "Everyday we seem to get a new question. Why can't we get an answer."
"Maybe when we get one it all comes together." Vasquez said.
"Like we are ever that lucky." Alex commented. "How are things between Rice and Diz?"
"Rice clearly dislikes Diz, we are trying to get to the bottom of it. But no more hazing incidents."
"I don't get why it suddenly started." Alex said.
"Well they only found out Diz was dating Kara last summer, so it could still be a weird form of jealously." Vasquez said. "I'll keep you posted."

"What's going on?" Alex asked when she returned home and saw MJ looking agitated.
"I saw her, at least I think I saw her. It looked like her." He said pacing.
"Who?" His mother asked lost.
"Jess. As Jess, not as the guy."
"Did she talk to you?"
"No, she was in the crowd and then she disappeared. It's not the first time, I thought I was seeing things, but now I think I wasn't."
"It's still possible it wasn't Jess." His mother said as her niece appeared.
"I saw her too." The teenage Alex said. "Ot at least I thought I did. I followed her, but she disappeared."
"You followed her?" Her aunt asked.
"Yeah."
"That could have been a trap." Her aunt warned before looking at her son. "Are you okay?"
"I guess."
"Can you share the memory?" Alex asked her niece.
"Yes." The teen said before sitting on the couch next to her aunt and shutting her eyes. "You ready?" The teen asked.
"Yes." Her aunt replied.
Taking a deep breath the teenager started to share the memory.
As the image of Jess came into the older Alex's mind she felt anger swell within her, although she was unsure if it was her anger or her niece's. Trying to ignore the anger Alex focused on the teenage girl as she passed through the crowd before turning down a new street. But as Alex turned onto the street Jess had turned onto, the shape shifter was no where to be seen. Scanning the street for doors she saw none that looked open. But then in the distance she saw a figure hurrying away, only it wasn't Jess it was another woman, but with dark black hair. Moments later the image of the memory disappeared and she started to feel calmer.
"Well?" MJ asked.
"There was definitely a shapeshifter and that person appeared as Jess." Alex confirmed before standing and hugging her son. "I know who they changed in to, so I am going to go back to the DEO and look at security footage. Are you going to be okay?"
"Sure."
"Okay. I'll be back soon." Alex said before turning to her niece who said.
"I'll look after him."

"What's going on?" Vasquez said coming into the control room.
"Boss came in and started pulling up CCTV footage." Ruby said. "Hasn't told us anything." She added as Kara rushed into the room asking.
"Have you found them?"
"No." Alex said staring at a screen. "Wait, there." She said pointing. "Now I just need to track them."
"Want me to do that?" Ruby offered. "Pretty sure I'd be faster."
"Who is she?" Vasquez asked.
"Jess." Kara said.
"Is MJ okay?" Ruby asked.
"Shaken." Alex said as she tried to track the person.
"Seriously, let me." Ruby said taking control.
"What happened?" Vasquez asked.
"He and Alex saw her in a crowd."
"But MJ is okay?" Vasquez asked.
"They didn't make direct contact with him." Alex said as she watched Ruby work.
"They changed appearance again." Ruby said putting the new face on the next screen.
"This could take a while." Vasquez said. "Why don't you go home, we'll call as soon as we know something."
"I'll fly you." Kara said.

"Did you find her?" MJ asked when the adults got home.
"Not yet. But Ruby is looking." Alex said. "How are you doing?"
"Okay." MJ said.
"You said you thought you had seen Jess in other places as well?" His mother probed.
"Yes, no. I mean I don't know."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"I didn't think it was real and Dr Kaur said it was normal to think I was seeing her, plus I didn't want to bother you."
"MJ you are more important than work. Next time tell me." Alex said hugging him again.
"We'll give you some space." Kara said as she guided her daughter from the room.
"Wait." The older Alex said before releasing MJ and looking at her niece. "Next time don't follow. Call for help."
"Okay." The teen said.

"How's MJ?" The teenage Alex asked the next morning when she entered her cousin's house.
"He's okay." Her aunt said. "He'll be down in a minute. Where's your mom?"
"Flew off early." The teen said.
"Have you had breakfast?"
"Yes." The teen said.
"Good." The older Alex said. "Before MJ comes down I want to talk to you-"
"I won't follow her again."
"I know, that's not what I was going to say." The older Alex said. "The memory you shared, you felt a lot of anger towards Jess."
"Of course I did, she hurt MJ." The teen said.
"I know." Alex said. "And I really am grateful MJ has someone like you looking out for him. But don't let the anger consume you."
"I won't." The teen said as MJ charged down the stairs.
"I know, I'm late." He said picking up his bag. He then looked at his mother and said. "See you later."
"What about breakfast?" His mother asked.
"Not hungry." He said before adding. "Bye." And hurrying out of the house followed by his cousin.
"Have I missed the kids?" Kara asked entering the house a few minutes later.
"Yes."
"How is MJ doing?"
"Better than me." Alex said. "Where have you come from?"
"DEO."
"Why?"
"I was helping Ruby, well trying to help Ruby. But we met a deadend."
"I know. She messaged me." Alex said. "Thank you for helping."
"Anytime." Kara smiled before asking. "Ready to go?"

As Alex entered the command room a weary looking Ruby approached and said. "Sorry."
"For what?"
"Not finding her."
"You did plenty. Why are you even here?"
"I have a shift."
"Go home and get some rest." Alex said.
"Actually, we are just looking at something else, I'd like to stay and help." Ruby said.
"We?"
"Some of night shift and me." Ruby said. "It should only take another hour."
"Ok, but after that rest." Alex ordered.
"Yes boss." Ruby said heading off to one of the labs as Vasquez suddenly exclaimed.
"You have to be kidding me."
"What?"
"Indomitable's latest suggestion."
"What is it?" Alex asked.
"That power dampners will be put up round the city. Only licenced metas with a special device will be able to use their powers inside." Vasquez explained.
"So basically only his people get to use powers?" Kara asked.
"Yes. Lucy has sent a message ensuring us it won't happen. But warns that Indomitable will probably use that to drive his PR machine."
"I miss the days when we had simple enemies who just came out with their desire to kill us." Alex said.
"Unfortunately we still have plenty of those." Vasquez reminded her. "Which brings me onto problem number two."
"What is it?" Alex asked.
"Reports of alien attacks in the city is increasing. Supergirl is stopping a lot of those attacks. But there are many more attacks showing up on social media then we know about."
"Real attacks?" Alex asked.
"They could be made up. We are looking into it." Vasquez said before asking. "How's MJ?"
"He seemed okay. But time will tell."

"So many people have signed up with Indomitable, but where are they?" Kara asked looking at the numbers. "I mean doing the rescues is mainly Indomitable and these six." Kara said pointing at the pictures. "Other than that we don't see many of his people. So where are they?"
"If your theory is right, most likely dead." Alex pointed out. "If Indomitable is linked to Tycho then killing many isn't a problem."
"But Indomitable has made a big show of how many have signed up for him, surely people will get suspicious when they all go missing?"
"Well, he probably has a plan that lands the blame at your feet."
"Ma'am." Rose called. "There is an alien attack downtown."
"On it." Kara said flying off.
"How many?" Alex asked Rose as they walked to the control room.
"One, but it a big spiky one."
"Any more info?"
"Running through our databases, but nothing so far." Rose said.
"What are we looking at?" Alex asked her sister over the radio.
"Don't recognise it." Kara said. "Oh Rao, his breath might be poisonous, or he needs a dentist."
"You okay?" Alex asked.
"Yes, oh, this isn't good." Supergirl said.
"What?" Alex asked before barking at the control room staff. "Where's our visual."
"They are in a blind spot. But Alpha team will be there in two minutes." Vasquez said.
"Those spikes are more like water canons, only I think it is acid not water." Supergirl said. "Acid my suit really doesn't like."
"You okay?" Alex asked frowning.
"Yes, but we need away to contain it. This is like watching Alien."
"A team will be there soon." Alex said.
"I'm going to try freez-" Kara said only for Alex to shout.
"No."
"What? Oh yeah, I see the problem." Supergirl said. "It's going crazy. I have to get it out of here. Meet me in the desert."
"What?" Alex asked as the alien roared into view on the CCTV. Moments later she saw it disappear into the sky.
"Supergirl?"
"I'm flying him to somewhere not populated." Kara said.
"It is hurting you?"
"No, not exactly, might need more clothes though." She said before adding. "You brought this on yourself."
"I assume that wasn't meant for you?" Vasquez asked.
"No idea."
"Team Greyhound has just left the desert base. They will be ready at these coordinates in two minutes." Rose reported.
"Supergirl?" Alex called over the radio.
"Yeah?"
"Sending you coordinates, can you make it there?"
"Yes. Oh oh."
"What?"
"It's starting to rain and there is a lot of gas coming off the acid spit."
"You okay?"
"Yes. No. Getting dizzy."
"Don't breathe." Alex warned. "You are a minute from safety."
"J'onn is en-route as well." Vasquez said to Alex.
"You are almost there?" Alex said by way of encouragement to her sister.
"This is Greyhound, we can see Supergirl. She is flying kind of erratically." Agent Guerny reported.
"That alien's acid is mixing with water and effecting her." Alex explained.
"Containment is ready. We all have the right gear." Guerny said before adding. "Supergirl is coming in really fast." He reported before shouting. "Take cover!"
"Guerny what's going on?" Alex demanded over the radio after a minute of silence.
"Alien is contained, but Supergirl is down." He said before reporting. "J'onn has arrived. He's bringing her to you." The news causing Alex to rush to the infirmary and wait for her sister, but as she hurried she called back. "Get Lena down here."
