Baratta jennifer - Diz will have a few struggles.

As Diz lay on the bed at Alex's house trying to figure out how he was meant to feel the door opened and an unexpected voice said.

"How are you doing?"

"Kar? What are you doing here?" Diz asked standing.

"Where else would I be?" Kara said hugging him. "How are you?"

"Okay. I guess. You didn't need to come, I mean you have school. And your exams."

"It's the weekend." Kara reminded him. "My next exam isn't for a few days."

"How did you even get here?"

"Aunt Kara." She explained before releasing him and asking. "How are you feeling?"

"Guilty."

"Why?"

"Growing up, so many times I wished that they were dead."

"What happened is not on you. What happened to them was terrible, but it doesn't change what they did to you or the fact that they were bad people." The younger Kara said.

"Morning." The younger Kara said coming into the kitchen the next morning where her mother was making coffee.

"Hey. How's Diz?" Alex asked turning.

"Finally sleeping." The younger Kara said as her mother passed her a cup of coffee. "Do you think he is in danger?"

"Honestly, I don't know." Her mother said. "But we'll look after him." She added before saying. "Right now we don't know the motive, it may be unrelated to Diz, or maybe it is related to the DEO or me, especially as MJ saw Jess recently. But I am not taking any chances, so you are going to have more protection at Stanford."

"What type of protection?"

"J'onn."

"Is that going to be okay with everything that is happening here?"

"We'll be fine." Alex said before asking. "How are you doing?"

"Me? Fine. Why?" The younger Kara asked confused.

"Wasn't sure if it Diz's parents' deaths would bring back unwanted memories."

"Not really, I mean by the time I woke up after the accident and knew what was happening it was way past this stage." She said shrugging off the concern. Not believing her Alex kept staring at her until her daughter repeated. "I'm okay."

Before Alex could probe further a tired looking Diz came into the kitchen.

"Sorry did I wake you?" Kara asked.

"No, my alarm did."

"Why did you have an alarm set?"

"So I could get up and revise." He said.

"Diz you don't have exams." Alex said causing his to look confused.

"Yeah I do."

"No you don't. I spoke to the Dean. You get a pass a this year. You parents being murdered more than counts as mitigating circumstances."

"That doesn't feel right. We weren't even close."

"You are still suffering." Alex said. "Besides you can still revise, just without the undue pressure of exams."

"Thanks." He said.

"Of course." Alex smiled. "Anyway I need to get to work. I'll see you later."

"Will I see you before I go back to Stanford?" The younger Kara asked.

"Absolutely." Alex said before leaving the house.

"Hey, how's Diz?" Kara asked when she entered her sister's office.

"Like you'd expect." Alex replied. "Where have you been?"

"Using my contacts to look into the other kidnappings."

"And?"

"All of the kidnap victims were parents to metas." Kara said.

"That can't be a coincidence." Alex replied.

"The interesting thing is the powers of their children." Kara said putting a list up on the screen. "All of these powers are kind of unique. And no one on team Indomitable have them."

"Why not just take the children?" Alex asked.

"Most of them are dead." Kara said.

"Dead?" Alex asked.

"Yes."

"How?"

"Variety of ways. The only similarities is they were all pretty young." Kara said. "Nothing links them apart from they were metas. But they all came from different neighbourhoods and backgrounds."

"You said most of the them were dead? What about the others?"

"Well there are Diz. And the other two have already joined Indomitable."

"Then why take the parents?" Alex asked.

"What if this is about DNA? All the kidnap victims reported being drugged, but what if it wasn't just to sedate them, what if it was to extract blood samples. I mean giving someone a power is one thing, but what if you could make any power or any combination you want?"

"So what, you think they are trying to capture every power going?" Alex asked.

"Maybe."

"If you are right, then there must be some incredibly successful geneticist working on this." Alex said. "Let's figure out who."

When Alex and Kara returned to the house that afternoon they found the younger generation sitting in the lounge playing video games.

"Hi." The younger Kara greeted as MJ paused the game.

"Hi." Her mother said.

"Want us to go?" MJ questioned.

"No. This involves all of you." Alex said

"This is about me?" Diz asked.

"Maybe." Alex said. "We still don't know who killed your parents, but there have been similar cases. The thing that links all of them is their children were Metas. That doesn't mean that was why they were kidnapped, but it is a possibility."

"I should move out." Diz said.

"No." Alex said. "You are staying here." She then looked round the room. "Until we know what happened I need you all to be careful."

"Do you think this is linked to Jess?" MJ asked.

"We have no reason to believe it is." Alex said.

"Is Kar going to be safe by herself?" Diz asked.

"I won't be by myself. J'onn will be there." The younger Kara said.

"You sure?" Diz asked.

"Yes." She said squeezing his hand.

"Hi Diz." Lena greeted a few days later.

"Hey, the others aren't back yet."

"I know. I wanted to speak to you."

"Um okay." He said leading her to the lounge.

"How are doing?"

"Okay I guess."

"Diz, I know some of what your parents did to you and I know you were estranged. But I also know that no matter how evil someone in your family is, it is impossible to cut off your feelings. I know that right now you are feeling guilty about not feeling their loss, but in ten minutes time you'll feel angry that you are feeling their loss. I've been there." Lena reminded him.

"So what do I do?"

"There is no right answer." Lena said. "But what ever it is you feel, it's okay to feel it."

"Good news, bad news." Vasquez said.

"For once can't you just give me good news?" Alex asked.

"I could, but then you'd chew me out for withholding information." Vasquez said.

"True. So what do you have?"

"We looked at geneticists to see if any one is capable of doing what Kara thinks they are doing."

"And are they?"

"Well, we have found papers from six geneticists in the US talking about this type of research."

"That sounds really good. What's the catch?"

"None of them are actually doing this application." Vasquez said.

"They probably wouldn't advertise it." Alex countered.

"True, but then we started thinking that maybe we were being too constrained in our thinking and well it doesn't have to be an American or even a human." Vasquez said.

"So we make progress and then create a suspect list that spans the Galaxy?" Alex asked.

"Something like that." Vasquez said. "How's Diz?"

"Okay I think. I'm not sure he knows how he is meant to feel." Alex said. "Any news from Wildcat?"

"No. But he isn't scheduled to check in for another two weeks."

As Alex got home that evening she was met by empty rooms and in response to her 'Hi." She was met by silence.

Guessing everyone was upstairs she went up to the den where she saw Alex, MJ, Martin and Diz on the couch immersed in a video game.

"Hi." She called again.

"Hey mom." MJ said pausing the game.

"Hi. Everything okay?"

"It's fine."

"You guys know what you want for dinner?" Alex asked.

"Steve is bringing the food with him." Martin said.

"He is?" Alex asked not knowing he was coming.

"Yes." Martin confirmed.

"And where's Chewie?" Alex asked.

"Mom is walking him." Her niece said.

"Okay, well I'll see you downstairs when the food arrives." Alex said resulting in the game restarting. Shaking her head she jogged downstairs just as Kara returned with Chewie.

"Hey." Kara smiled. "Kids okay?"

"Still playing computer games." Alex said before seeing the bag her sister was carrying and saying. "I thought Steve was bringing the food."

"He is, this is the pre Steve brings food, food." Kara said. "Want some?"

"Why not." Alex said taking the bag off her sister.

"Everything okay up there?" Kara asked.

"Seems to be." Alex said walking into the lounge and taking a doughnut out of the bag.

"You okay? You seem stressed."

"There's just a lot of unknowns and it is starting to annoy me. I thought we were making progress earlier, but then it turned out my suspect list was spread throughout the Galaxy."

"One of those days then." Kara smiled.

"How about you?"

"Many, many, many interviews."

"Get anywhere?"

"Not so far." Kara said. "But I was thinking I may go to Argo for a week during the vacation. Maybe it will offer a fresh perspective. But are you going to be okay if I do that?"

"Of course." Alex said as the doorbell rang.

"That'll be Steve." Kara said as she walked to the door.

"Hi." He smiled as Kara took the pizza boxes off him. "Thanks." He added as he followed her to the lounge. "Hi Alex."

"Hi."

"I'll get the kids." Kara said putting the pizza boxes on the table before disappearing.

"How's Diz?" Steve asked putting the brown bags on the table.

"Getting there." Alex said. "How are things with you?"

"Changing. The clinic is really in edge right now. And the hospital itself there's a lot of injuries which people are lying about."

"In what way?"

"Normally it is victims of domestic abuse that lie, but we can normally tell as the injuries don't match their stories. But fortunately it has always been a subset of patients. Recently though it is like the majority are hiding something." He explained as the door opened and the others walked in.

"Alex?" Kara called rushing into her daughter's room in the early hours. "Alex wake up." She said sitting on the bed before gently trying to wake her daughter up.

As Alex sat up gasping for breath Kara held her tightly. "It's okay, it was a dream."

"Mom?" She asked.

"Right here." Kara said.

"I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"Waking you."

"It's okay. Want to talk about it?"

"It was the Lobo one. The one where he killed you."

"Hey, I'm right here." Kara said. "Lobo didn't kill me."

"But he hurt you."

"But I came back swinging and I am still here." Kara reminded her.

"What if next time you don't?"

"Where is this coming from?" Kara asked. "Is it what happened with the acid alien?"

"No. I'm just scared."

"Because of what happened with Diz's parents?"

"No. I don't know."

"Maybe it is because high school ends this week and you are stressing about going to college?" Kara suggested. "But here's the thing, you'll be fine." Kara said.

"You don't know that. You can't even say you'll be okay."

"True, but I have your aunt looking out for me and you'll have Martin and MJ nearby." Kara said.

"I'll still miss you." The teen said.

"And I will miss you so much." Kara said hugging her. "You know what I think?"

"What?"

"We need a break. Just the two of us."

"You aren't going to suggest Dakran are you?"

"No." Kara smiled. "But we could go to Argo?"
