Guest - Thanks!

Baratta jennifer - Alex will have a bit of a rough ride but eventually things will get better.

Hearing a beeping Kara opened her eyes and saw her daughter sprawled across her and three other teens on the floor. As two of the teens started to move MJ mumbled. "Sorry."

"What's going on?" Alex asked opening her eyes.

"Sorry." MJ said again as he and Martin stood up.

"Rowing practice." Martin explained.

"Together?" Kara asked confused.

"Of course not. He's the enemy." MJ said before looking at Alex and saying. "I'll be back later." He said leaving with Martin.

"Can't believe MJ willingly gets up at six on a weekend." Kara commented.

"They're nuts." Mel mumbled from the floor.

"How are you doing?" Kara asked her daughter.

"Okay."

"We should go get breakfast."

"I'm not hungry."

"I know, but you need to eat." Kara said. She then looked at Mel and said. "You'll come too?"

"You sure?" Mel asked.

"Absolutely."

"Well seeing nothing will be open before seven, I'll go get changed and let you guys catch up. See you in an hour." Mel said leaving the room.

Once she had gone Alex looked at her mother and said. "Thanks for coming yesterday."

"I will always come for you." Kara promised. "How are you feeling?"

"Like an idiot."

"You aren't an idiot." Kara said.

"I trusted a jerk."

"We all make mistakes." Kara said hugging her. She then pulled back and asked. "Did he force you to do anything on the date?"

"No." The teen said leaning against her mother.

"I know it hurst right now, and you want to shut yourself off, but not all guys are jerks." Kara said before suggesting. "Why don't you go shower. Then we'll go out."

As Kara waited for Alex to return from the showers she heard raised voices from next door. Concerned Kara went to Mel's room where she saw the teen in a heated debate with an older man.

"Everything okay?" Kara asked.

"Yes." The man said slamming the door in Kara's face.

Opening the door Kara said. "I wasn't actually talking to you. Are you okay Mel?"

"Who are you?" The man demanded.

"Kara Danvers." Kara replied.

"That name sounds familiar." The man commented before adding. "This is a family matter. It doesn't concern you."

"As soon as you yelled enough for the whole dorm to hear you, it wasn't a family matter anymore." Kara said. "Besides Mel is a friend."

"Wait you are that alien loving pet of Cat Grant aren't you? I might have guessed." He said.

"I didn't know you and Cat were friends." Kara countered.

"We're not." He said. "Why are you here?"

"For Mel. We have important business."

"I doubt it, but even if you did. I don't care. This takes priority."

"Mel, how old are you?" Kara asked.

"Nineteen."

"So an adult, free to make your own decisions?" Kara asked.

"No. She answers to me." The man said.

"Mel, want to come get breakfast?" Kara asked ignoring him.

"Um sure."

"I am warning you-" The man started to say.

"Good, because threats would be illegal." Kara said.

"This isn't over." The man said to Mel before storming out.

"You okay?" Kara asked Mel.

"Sure, situation normal for us."

"Who is he?"

"My father."

"Why was he here at six thirty in the morning."

"Flew over especially." Mel said.

"Why?"

"He figured out I was at MIT."

"Sorry?" Kara asked not expecting that answer.

"He wanted Yale or Harvard. I didn't."

"And he has only just figured it out now?" Kara asked confused. "You've been here for weeks."

"Well, when I was applying he asked if I was going Harvard or Yale. I said Massachusetts. Not my fault if he made a few assumptions." Mel said.

"But now he has figured it out?" Kara asked.

"Yeah and he is super mad."

"You okay?"

"Not the first time I have disappointed him. Won't be the last." Mel said. "But thank you."

"Not sure I really helped." Kara pointed out.

"Having someone in my corner helped." Mel said as Alex walked into the room.

"Mom?"

"Hey, you ready?"

"I'm not very hungry."

"That's not going to work. We are all going for breakfast. I think you both need a bit of cheering up." Kara said.

"Both? What's happened?" Alex asked looking from her mother to Mel.

"We can discuss that over breakfast." Kara said ushering them out.

"Hey, how's Alex?" The older Alex asked when Kara entered her lounge.

"Heartbroken." Kara said. "But she has lot's of people looking after her."

"And the boy?"

"I've not touched him." Kara said.

"You okay?"

"I just hated seeing her so broken."

"She'll bounce back." Alex said. "And it is almost Thanksgiving. The break will help."

"I hope so." Kara replied. "But she wasn't the only one with drama."

"MJ?" Alex asked concerned.

"He was fine. I was talking about Mel."

"Mel? Alex's roommate?" Alex asked trying to keep up.

"Yeah, her father is a complete jerk who hates aliens and Cat. He's not that keen on Mel either."

"Sounds like an eventful few hours." Alex said.

"Yeah. How were things here?"

"Quiet."

"That's good. Wait are you lying?"

"Yeah. Indomitable has been everywhere. But it's okay."

"Define okay."

"No one has died." Alex said. "Plus, the latest crime figures show the number of new missing metas has decreased."

"That is good." Kara agreed. "But none of the missing have turned up yet?" She guessed.

"No."

"You think it was a random blip?" Kara asked. "I mean so many going missing."

"Maybe, but if it wasn't, why did it stop?" Alex asked.

As MJ returned to his cousin's dorm he saw a teenage guy who fitted Jeff's description. Approaching him he asked.

"Jeff?"

"Do I know you?"

"No."

"Is that a BU shirt? Get lost or something? I can see how MIT and BU might be hard to read for you." Jeff said earning a laugh from his friends.

"Cute. And no I am not lost. I'm visiting my cousin. I think you know her. Alex. And you are going to regret what you did to her."

"Really?"

"See Alex is really nice, too nice and she won't do anything. But I will."

"Like you can do anything."

"Want to bet?" MJ asked.

"You here to beat me up?"

"No. All I am going to do is tell someone what happened."

"I'm shaking." Jeff said sarcastically.

"You will be in four years time." MJ said.

"What?"

"Did you know Alex is sponsored by L-Corp? And Alex is more of a protege for Lena, as in Luthor. And Lena is super protective of her protégé and is exceptionally good at holding a grudge, just ask her brother. You will never work for any company she has an interest in. Which is most tech companies."

"Like you have any influence."

"Lena is my godmother." MJ said. "So enjoy your lack of job prospects." He smiled before walking off.

"That was kinda cool." A female voice said from behind him.

"Oh Mel, hey, you heard all that?" MJ asked turning.

"Yes, Alex is really lucky to have you looking out for her."

"It's normally the other way round." He shrugged. "And it might be best not to mention that exchange to her."

"My lips are sealed." Mel promised.

"Thanks for calling me and letting me know what was happening with her." MJ said.

"It's what friends do right?"

"Yeah." MJ said. "We are a having a movie night, want to join us?"

"Um sure."

"Great." He said walking back to his cousin's room.

"I have ice." He said entering the room before noticing an unopened box on the side. "And you still haven't had Twinkies so that's a good sign." He said causing Alex to throw a cushion at him.

"How are you doing?" Mel asked.

"Okay I guess."

"MJ said you were watching movies, but I can go if you want."

"No. Stay. How are you doing?"

"Me? Fine why?"

"This morning." Alex reminded her.

"Oh that. It's fine. That's how we roll. And if I am lucky he'll be so busy working, I won't see him again for a few months."

"You okay with that?" MJ asked.

"It's way better than seeing him. He's a bigoted jerk." Mel shrugged. Seeing the looks of concern she was getting she added. "Aren't we meant to be cheering Alex up with a movie night?"

"We are. Just don't support MJ's movie choice." Martin said.

"Why? It is better than yours." MJ countered.

"No it isn't. Back me up Alex." Martin said.

"Both your choices recently have sucked." Alex said.

"Not our fault you don't appreciate the classics." MJ said. "Sounds like you need more education."
