Guest - Thanks!
Baratta jennifer - Thank you. The younger Alex will take a bit of time to recover.
"Hey Lucy, I didn't know you were going to be here." Alex greeted a couple of weeks later.
"Someone has to make sure everything is legal."
"You have reason to believe it isn't?" Alex asked.
"With you? Yes. But nothing specific." Lucy said. "Plus I am here to make sure your sister is protected."
"Protected?" Alex asked frowning.
"From potential law suits and criminal charges."
"Criminal charges?"
"Some Counties have been introducing new laws."
"They have?"
"Yes. As long as they don't violate State law it is legal to do. What worries us are some of these laws look like they could be used to target Supergirl."
"Supergirl and not Indomitable?" Alex asked frowning.
"Supergirl is an alien. Some counties are using that as a differentiator."
"That's all we need." Alex sighed.
"The other reason I am here is the President wants you in DC and he wanted to make sure you had enough cover here."
"Why does he want me?"
"I don't know. But he looked frustrated."
"When does he want me?"
"First thing tomorrow. Sounds like it might be for a few days."
"I'll go pack." Alex said before asking. "How's your dad?"
"Stubborn as an ox. I am really seeing where Lois gets it from." Lucy sighed.
"Have you told Lois that yet?"
"No, I'm saving it until she really annoys me." Lucy smiled before asking. "How's Kara doing?"
"Doesn't need any more stress right now."
"I'm doing all I can." Lucy said.
"I know. That wasn't a criticism." Alex said as Kara entered the office.
"Have you see- Lucy hi. What are you doing here?"
"The President wants Alex in DC so I am here to fight fires while she is away." Lucy said.
"You're going to DC?" Kara asked her sister. "When?"
"Yes and tonight." Alex said. "I should go pack."
"Want me to fly you?"
"It's November." Alex reminded her. "I'll go commercial and not freeze."
"Your loss." Kara shrugged.
"See you in a few days." Alex said. "Do not do anything stupid." She warned leaving.
"Is she getting fired?" Kara asked Lucy.
"No. She'll be fine." Lucy smiled.
"How long are you staying?" Kara asked.
"Until Alex gets back"
"You'll stay with me right?"
"I don't want to impose."
"You won't. Besides Chewie will like the company."
"He still struggling?"
"No, he just loves being the centre of attention."

"This way." The Agent said leading Alex to the secure room where the President was waiting.
"Mr President." Alex greeted.
"Director. Come in, take a seat."
"Thank you Sir." Alex said sitting.
"I assume you are wondering why I called you here?"
"To fire me?"
"No." The President smiled. "Nor will I accept your resignation, you are one of the few I trust. I wanted to discuss Indomitable and the law suits." He said as the door burst open.
"Sir, we have reports of a missile strike heading to DC. You need to go to the bunker." Agent Brown said.
"With me Danvers." The President ordered as he stood.
"Yes Sir." Alex said following the President out of the office.
"The situation room in the bunker is set up and ready to go." The Agent said as they reached the elevator where one of the Generals was already waiting.
"Who fired?" The President asked.
"We don't know. They appeared out of nowhere on our radars." The General explained as the elevator dropped below ground. "They will hit in two minutes. We need you in the central bunker until after they have hit." He said before leading the President to the central room.
"I'll get you when it is safe." The General said.
"I want Danvers with me." The President said.
"Yes Sir." The General said as the President and Alex entered the inner bunker before the door locked shut behind them.
"Assuming there is still a world in one minute, we need to get to the bottom of this." The President said to Alex. "If this is Indomitable we both know he won't have left proof. But we need to stop him before he destabilises the country."
"I agree, but if we act illegally that will be used to strengthen his case." Alex said.
"You have never been constrained by in the box thinking." The President reminded her.
"I am worried that he is trying to start a pseudo war with aliens." Alex said before checking her watch and saying. "It's been a minute."
"And yet the doors aren't open." The President said hitting the keyboard on the desk. "I hate technology." He muttered.
"Do you want me to try?" Alex offered.
"Please."
"This isn't connected." Alex said.
"What? Why wouldn't it be connected?" The President asked as he tried to open the door only to get a, "denied." message.
"What the hell is going on?" The President asked as the screen on the wall flashed to life. "I thought you said it wasn't connected?"
"It isn't, to your computer anyway." Alex said.
"President and Director Danvers. Two for the price of one." A distorted figure said on the screen.
"Who are you?" The President asked.
"The future." The voice said. "You have served your purpose. Now we need to take control." The man said before tapping on the console. Moments later the temperature rapidly dropped. "Goodbye." The voice said before the screen went blank.
"Can your team get in?" Alex asked the President.
"No. The protocol is they send me a signal and I come out. It is a safe room. They can't get in unless I authorise it. Only I can't authorise it." He said putting his hands under his arms, trying to keep warm.
"So we have to break out." Alex said going to the control panel.
"Of a room designed to be secure?" The President asked.
"Beats the alternative." Alex said before getting lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" The President asked.
"Wondering why they want to freeze us to death." Alex sad wrapping her arms round her body. "Why not use poison, or kill us."
"Does it matter?" The President asked.
"There's got to be a reason." Alex said looking round the room for an exit.
"Maybe, but wouldn't your thoughts be better used to find a way out?"
"If it's Tycho's group behind this, there won't be a way out." Alex said.
"So we give up?" The President asked shivering.
"No we buy time."
"For what?"
"So that Supergirl finds us."
"Is she even looking?"
"She will." Alex said.
"Then why do you look so troubled?"
"Maybe that is what they want. Maybe we're bait."
"And that's bad?"
"They are always a step ahead of us, if they are making a move it means they know how to neutralise her or worse."
"So we need to stop her finding us?"
"Sir?"
"If I die here, Rossington takes over, and despite what the media says, he's a good guy. The country will be okay. If Supergirl is taken over that's a big threat to the country."
"Unfortunately Supergirl won't stop, even if she knows it is a trap."
"I'd noticed." The President said. "So what do we do?"
"Find a way out."
"Didn't you just say there wasn't?"
"Well maybe hypothermia makes me optimistic." Alex said searching the walls. She then looked at the President and said. "You should walk round and try to get your blood flowing."
"What are you going to do?"
"See if I can hotwire the door."
"The hotwire proof door?" The President asked.
"There's always a weakness."
"You're right, hypothermia does make you optimistic." The President said before adding. "They're framing her."
"What?" Alex asked turning.
"Say we aren't dead when Supergirl arrives, well not quite. But we die soon after she arrives. What is to stop Indomitable blaming her?" He asked. "We need to make sure if we don't make it, she isn't blamed."
"How?"
"I'll leave a message." He said taking out his phone.
"How did he talk to us?" Alex asked. "There has to be a connection." She said as she started to search for hidden devices. Not seeing anything obvious she started to tear the room to pieces as the President talked into his phone.
As Alex started to rip the chairs, her hands got more and more numb. But just when she was loosing hope she found a small solid object in the upholstery
"Got it." She said.
"Does … does it help?" The president asked.
"May … maybe." She said trying to focus on the object just as the President collapsed.
"Sir." She said moving to him and trying to keep him warm, but with every passing second she felt herself drift. Unable to stay awake she shut her eyes moments before something burst through the floor.
"Alex." A familiar voice called.
"Trap." Alex said through chattering teeth, her eyes still shut.
Grabbing hold of the President and Alex, Supergirl flew them to the normal part of the White House. As she set them down she felt pain spread through her body.
Watching her sister struggle Alex tried to move, but her body was too cold and fatigued and all she could do was watch as her unconscious sister was dragged off.
