Baratta jennifer - By Kara's standards it's not so bad ...
As Alex came to she saw her sister and asked.
"Kara? How? You were taken. I saw you."
"Yes I was, but it was a misunderstanding." Kara said squeezing her sister's hand.
"What?" Alex asked confused.
"They thought I was behind what happened. The President corrected them, now it is all good."
"But-"
"Right now you need to focus on getting better." Kara said.
"I'm fine." Alex argued trying to sit up. "But you. You were in pain and-"
"Alex, I am fine. The only thing you need to worry about is you." Kara smiled.
"I'm fine." Alex repeated.
"No, you're not." Kara said. "Get some sleep." She said squeezing her sister's hand, waiting for her to doze off again before stepping outside the room.
"How is she?" Vasquez asked approaching.
"Good news is she stayed awake for more than five seconds. Bad news is her stubbornness is starting to show."
"And you?"
"Fine."
"That doesn't cut it. We still aren't entirely sure what you were hit with. Whatever it was knocked you out cold, despite your suit."
"I know, I was there." Kara reminded her. "Right now I am more concerned about Alex."
"She'll be okay." Vasquez said. "Although she will need rest."
"I'll make sure she does." Kara said.
"You need rest too. And while you are resting, we'll go through all the data from your suit and make sure you have protection in the future."
"Won't that upset the Secret Service?"
"Not my concern." Vasquez said. "You are. We will keep you safe. We will also figure out who tried to frame you."
"Indomitable?" Kara guessed.
"Well we will prove it." Vasquez said as Lucy joined them.
"How are you feeling?" Lucy asked.
"I'm fine." Kara smiled.
"Good, but you may be about to feel a little stressed." Lucy said apologetically.
"Why?"
"Indomitable has given another interview."
00
"If the rumours are true, and I remind you they are just rumours it would show that many who have been ridiculed were right all along and aliens can not be trusted. However, we should wait until the details are revealed and hope that there isn't a cover up." Indomitable said.
"A cover up?" Poppy Hunter asked.
"It is hard to believe, but there are rumours that even if Supergirl was behind it, it would be better to pretend she wasn't."
"Why?"
"Fear. Let's face it Supergirl is all powerful. If her opinion of us changed, we'd all be in trouble."
"Surely you would protect us?" Poppy Hunter asked.
"Of course I would." Indomitable smiled. "But I am a mere man, a human, and unlike some I follow the law."
"Are you suggesting Supergirl doesn't?"
"I'm not lawyer." Indomitable smiled. "But I have heard that several Counties are looking at bringing criminal charges."
"Turn it off." Vasquez ordered Rose who immediately complied as Kara stared at the blank screen.
"You okay?" Lucy asked Kara.
"That's just great. I am still the bad guy."
"The President knows the truth." Lucy reminded her. "And so do we. We have your back. You focus on Alex, and let me worry about this."
"Thanks." Kara said.
"But first we need to run some more scans." Lena said entering the control room.
"On what?" Kara asked.
"You."
"I'm fine." Kara said.
"I have seen the suit readings. You definitely weren't fine." Lena said. "Besides when Alex gets out of here, if she thinks we haven't done our jobs she won't rest. So come on."
00
"Well?" Kara asked an hour later as she sat impatiently on a bed in the lamp room.
"Everything looks okay." Lena said.
"Told you."
"Kara you were out of it for two hours. And when you were hit your heart beat so fast I am amazed it didn't kill you."
"I am okay." Kara assured her.
"Well, I want to make sure of that. I feel responsible."
"How?"
"The suit failed you. Which means they have the designs." Lena said. "Next time, I will keep the designs off the DEO systems." She added before looking at Kara. "You really okay?"
"Angry and frustrated and scared. But physically I am fine." She said as they heard a commotion from the adjacent room.
"Sounds like Alex is awake." Lena commented.
00
"I was so scared when I saw you in there, your heart was beating so slowly and you were barely breathing." Kara said as she held her sister on the couch, when she and Alex were finally allowed home.
"I wasn't the one hauled off by the secret service goons." Alex pointed out as she stayed close to her sister's heat.
"I'm okay."
"You are also stupid." Alex said.
"You could just thank me rather than insult me." Kara pointed out.
"Then you'd keep doing stupid things." Alex countered as she leant again her sister. After a moment's silence she added. "Thank you."
"I'll always come." Kara reminded her. "You sure you are okay?"
"Would they have released me if I wasn't?"
"Seeing how much they fear you? Yes."
"I'm fine, just a little cold, but pretty sure that is psychosomatic." Alex said as there was a knock on the door.
"That'll be Steve." Kara said jumping up.
"Steve? Why is Steve here?" Alex asked, but the question remained unanswered as her sister went to the hallway. After a couple of minutes Kara returned with Steve and announced.
"Steve is here to make sure you are okay."
"I got checked over at the DEO." Alex pointed out.
"Yeah, but you are also their boss and they are scared of you." Kara countered. "Whereas Steve doesn't work for you."
"Still terrified." He whispered to Kara.
"I appreciate you coming over, but I am fine." Alex said to Steve.
"You say that, and you glare at me while saying it, which is really convincing. But Kara has that pout and I can't fight that." Steve said.
"If only Indomitable was so soft." Alex said pulling the blanket tighter round her.
"While my medical advice may not be wanted. I thought food would be." He said waving a bag. "It's homemade Lasagne."
"Homemade by who?" Kara asked.
"Me. Who'd you think?" Steve asked.
"Well Gino's sells homemade pasta."
"That's not exactly the same thing." Steve pointed out. "Why don't I go warm this up?"
"I don't need a doctor." Alex said to her sister once Steve had disappeared.
"But you do need food, and it isn't like either of us can cook. But I am sure Eliza would come down."
"Fine, Steve can stay." Alex conceded. "I am hungry." She added as something bulged below the blanket before a nose appeared. "So is Chewie."
"Dinner is served." Steve said coming in with two plates. As he passed one to each of the sisters Kara asked.
"Where's yours?"
"I thought you just wanted me for my food." Steve said.
"Not just for your food." Kara said.
"Just eighty, twenty." Alex shrugged. "But thanks, this is good."
"You are welcome." Steve replied. "Is there anything else you need?"
"As I keep telling Kara, I am fine."
"Okay, well if you need anything call me."
"Shouldn't you be listening to her heart or something?" Kara asked.
"I'm fine." Alex said getting annoyed.
"If anything changes come get me." Steve said to Kara. "In the mean time I'll leave you to look after Alex."
"Second thoughts you can stay and make Kara listen to reason." Alex said.
"I better go." Steve said. "Call if you need anything."
"I'll see you out." Kara said following him to the front door. As they reached it he said.
"She's fine. But if anything happens you know where I am."
"Thanks."
"How are you doing? I saw the interview."
"Right now I am just focusing on Alex." Kara said.
00
"Their plan was botched, it is the first time we have seen them not plan everything properly, maybe they are getting stretched." Alex said to Vasquez the next day.
"Moving for the President though, that's bold. Especially if they left any evidence."
"What do you mean if, there was the device I found." Alex said.
"We don't have access." Vasquez said. "I have requested we get access."
"Let me guess, the team with access is the same team that said Lane wasn't poisoned?" Alex said.
"And the same team who took down Supergirl." Vasquez said. "So my guess is even if we get a device it won't be thedevice."
"No way is the President's team going to let this go." Alex said.
"Maybe, but some of them are still blaming Supergirl." Vasquez said.
"But she saved us." Alex argued.
"They are suggesting it was staged to win popularity."
"What the hell are they smoking?" Alex asked grumpily before asking. "How bad was it for Kara?"
"Bad. We are still trying to figure out what they shot her with." Vasquez said. "But all tests since then have been normal." She added. "I need to go back, let me know if you remember anything else."
"Or I could come in."
"Not until after the holidays." Vasquez warned. "President's orders."
"Isn't he under medical observation?" Alex asked.
"Yes. But like you still gives orders. Unlike you he still has power."
"What is happening about his security?" Alex asked.
"In hand."
"More details to go with that?"
"Not for you, it's need to know."
"Where as you need to rest." Kara said coming into the room.
"I am going to have this all holiday, can't I come back to work?" Alex pleaded with Vasquez.
"No. Think of it at character development." Vasquez said before looking at Kara. "I'll see you later."
"See you later." The older Kara said as Vasquez moved to the front door. As she opened it she saw someone she wasn't expecting.
"Oh hey. She's in the lounge." Vasquez said leaving.
"Hi." The newcomer said entering the lounge.
"Kara? What are you doing here?" The older Alex asked when she saw her daughter.
"I heard what happened. Are you okay?" The younger Kara said hugging her mother.
"How did you hear?" Alex asked looking at her sister.
"Not me." The older Kara said holding her hands up. "Why don't I go get dinner, I'll see you soon."
"I'm fine." Alex repeated once it was just her and her daughter. "How did you find out?"
"DEO."
"As in Diz?" Alex asked.
"I have more contacts than just Diz." The younger Kara said.
"Like who?" Alex asked.
"Like, I'm not revealing that." The younger Kara shot back as she sat next to her mother. "You sure, you're okay, you are looking a little-"
"Kara, I'm fine."
"Thanks to aunt Kara?"
"Yes. Which is proof your aunt is looking after me and you don't need to worry." Alex argued. "So how's college?"
"That was a quick change of subject." The younger Kara pointed out.
"Because the last topic was over." Alex countered. "I appreciate your concern, but your aunt has been at me non-stop. So you don't need to."
"Has aunt Kara also been feeding you, because if so you still need real food."
"Actually Steve fed us."
"That's kinda shameless. But at least you ate." The younger Kara said.
"Seeing I am pretty sure you have classes until Tuesday, why are you here?"
"Actually, I have finished my assignments and I can watch the lectures online. Which means I can be here for you. Besides poor aunt Kara needs time off for good behaviour."
"Wouldn't you prefer to hang out with Diz?"
"He is on DEO training."
"Is that this week?" Alex asked.
"Yes. Your head okay?"
"It's fine. I don't actually run the new recruit training." Alex pointed out.
"Something I am sure they are grateful for." Her daughter shot back. "But seeing Diz is in some desert somewhere for another couple of days, you are stuck with me. So how are you really doing?"
"I'm fine." Alex promised her. "But I am very happy to see you."
"Me too. I missed you." Kara said.
"Have you spoken to cousin?"
"About the jerk?" The younger Kara guessed.
"Yes."
"Yes. She is getting better, but looking forward to Thanksgiving and has sworn off humans, at least until MJ reminded her about her fiance so now she is off guys for life." The younger Kara said. "It's funny, I never would have thought out of the three of them it would be Martin dating by Thanksgiving."
"Martin is dating?" Alex asked.
"Steve didn't tell you? Or do you keep the help in the kitchen?"
"It was one dinner that he cooked." Alex said. "And no he didn't tell us about Martin. Maybe because I kinda told him to go." Alex said before asking. "So what's new with you, or do I need to ask your brother?"
"What's MJ got to do with it?" Kara asked confused.
"Pretty sure you two give up more information on each other than yourselves."
"Not intentionally." Kara shrugged. "But nothing much going on, just lots of studying." The younger Kara said.
"But?" Alex asked.
"Something's different. Campus feels different. There so much hate. Everyone goes round saying how great Indomitable is, but he is inciting so much discrimination."
"I know." Her mother said.
"What's going to happen?"
"Honestly, I don't know. Hopefully he'll show his true colours before it is too late." Alex said as the older Kara returned.
"Wow, what happened to mood in here?" The older Kara asked.
"We were talking about Indomitable." Alex explained.
"That would do it." The older Kara said putting the bag of food on the table. "That should be enough for you guys, if not give me a call."
"What? Where are going?" Her niece asked.
"You guys need to catch up."
"We are. Come on, I haven't seen you in ages. Can't we have a girls' night?" The younger Kara asked.
"You sure?" The older Kara asked her sister.
"Yes, besides I'm not letting go of Chewie." She said stroking the dog.
"Okay. Then I had better get some ice cream." The older Kara said disappearing.
"How is she coping?" The younger Kara asked.
"Keeps saying she is fine. But she hates it." Alex said.
"Anything I can do until Alex gets back from college?"
"You're already doing it." Her mother said as the door opened and her sister returned. However as the older Kara looked at her sister she said.
"Sorry. Ice cream is a little tactless. I'll hide it." She said moving to the kitchen.
"I'm not going to get PTSD from ice cream." Alex called after her.
