Baratta jennifer - Things can still get worse for Kara

"I'm back." The older Kara called entering the apartment where she was immediately met by Chewie who happily jumped up at her legs.

"Hi." The teen replied from the couch.

"How are you feeling?" Kara asked.

"Okay, but I may have broken your frying pan and a few glasses." Alex confessed.

"How?"

"I picked it up and underestimated my strength. Then put the glasses down too hard." The teen said avoiding eye contact.

"Are you hurt?"

"No."

"Good." Kara smiled before adding. "Told you cooking was dangerous. Why were you cooking?"

"I wanted to make you something nice to apologise for-"

"Alex you have nothing to apologise for." Kara cut in.

"Yes I do-"

"Alex, what you are going through is not your fault."

"What I said was." The teen argued. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I mean obviously I did because I was angry, but I didn't mean it-" Alex tried to explain only to be cut off as the doorbell rang. "I'll get it." She said walking past her mother and opening the door. Moments later she walked back to her mother carrying two large flat boxes.

"Pizza." She said needlessly before adding. "Don't look so worried, you have cheese, cheese and more cheese. No vegetables." She then looked at her mother and misread her expression causing her to add. "But if you have plans, that's fine I can go out."

"What? No." Kara said. "I can't think of anything better."

"Then why the frown?"

"You are letting me eat cheese." Kara said. "You never do that."

"Not like I can stop you." Alex pointed out.

"True, but the only time you let me eat cheese is when you are feeling guilty."

"Of course I am feeling guilty, I'm a horrible person who hurt you."

"Alex, if you were a horrible person you wouldn't feel guilty about it." Kara said hugging her. "All that matters is you are okay. Are you okay?"

"I guess."

"It'll get better." Kara said. "The next few days will still be rough, but when your hormones are back to normal you will be okay."

"I'm still sorry about what I said."

"I know." Kara said holding her tightly. "Just remember how much I love you."

"I love you too." The teen replied.

As Diz entered the apartment with Chewie the next day he called out, only to get no response.

"Looks like you are on your own." Diz said to Chewie who started barking before running to Alex's bedroom door where he jumped up and down.

"Want to wait in there?" Diz asked the dog.

"Alex?" He called knocking on the door. Getting no response he opened the door and Chewie ran in heading to the far side of the bed where he started barking again.

"What's wrong?" Diz asked Chewie who kept barking. "The neighbours will complain." Diz pointed out to the uncaring dog. Shaking his head he waked round the bed and saw Alex sat on the floor, her knees pulled up to her chest.

"Alex? You okay?" He asked rushing over to her.

"I'm fine."

"Pretty sure you're not." He said. "Is it your powers?"

"No. It's me. I'm a bad person."

"How are you a bad person." Diz asked sitting on the floor next to Alex.

"I was so mean to mom. She is going through so much and I just made it worse."

"You get lost?" The younger Kara called as she entered the apartment. Hearing a whimpering kind of sound she moved to her cousin's bedroom. Seeing Diz's arm wave from somewhere beyond the bed she walked round and saw her cousin crying into his chest.

"What's wrong?" Kara asked moving over to them.

"I'm sorry." Alex cried.

"Can you go get some food?" The younger Kara asked Diz.

"Yes." Diz said happy to have an excuse to leave before extracting himself from Alex and leaving the room with Chewie. The younger Kara then took his place at her cousin's side.

"I'm sorry." Alex sobbed again.

"It's okay, just let it out." Kara said hugging her.

Once Alex had stopped crying Kara asked. "What happened?"

"I realised what a bad person I am. And what a failure I am and-"

"Sounds like your hormones got the better of you." Her cousin said.

"Maybe. Is Diz going to avoid me forever?"

"No." Her cousin smiled. "Probably just until Christmas." She added before asking. "You feeling better?"

"I guess." Alex said.

"But?"

"I hate this feeling."

"Which feeling?"

"Not being in control of anything."

"You are in control of plenty. And next week you will be back to normal."

"What if I'm not?"

"You will be." Her cousin assured her as they heard the front door open and close.

"That is your mom so I will give you two some space." Kara said standing. "Call if you need anything."

"Hey Kara." The older Kara greeted when she saw her niece.

"Hi, and bye." The younger Kara responded before leaving the apartment just as the teenage Alex emerged from her room.

"You okay?" The older Kara asked her daughter.

"No." The teen said hugging her.

"What's wrong?"

"I hate being a stupid half Dakran."

"Hormones still playing up?" Kara guessed.

"I spent the afternoon crying into Diz."

"Well that was probably worse for Diz." Kara pointed out as she hugged her daughter.

"Not helping." The teen complained.

"Did anything cause it?" Kara asked.

"Yes." The teen said before pausing. Eventually she said. "I realised I am a horrible person."

"I thought we covered this last night?" Kara asked pulling away so she could look at her daughter.

"But, what I said to you-"

"Alex, you were angry. And I know you didn't mean it."

"But I still hurt you."

"Alex, all that matters is that you are okay and you know how much I love you." Kara said.

"Aren't you disappointed in me?"

"Of course not. I will never be disappointed in you."

"But-"

"Alex, you can beat yourself up over this for months, but it won't help. It is best to move on."

"How?"

"Why don't we go out and do something? We could train? Or sketch?" Kara said.

"Or both?" The teen suggested.

"Or both." Kara agreed. "Let's go."

"The good news is your hormone levels are much more level." The older Alex said to her niece the next day.

"And the bad news?"

"Based on the current rate you have another week until they are completely level."

"Will it get worse again?"

"No. Based on last time, each day should be better." Her aunt said.

"But if you want to stay in National City until you are back to normal you can." Kara said.

"No, I'll go back to college." The teen said.

"You sure?" Kara asked.

"Not really, but I will be okay. Besides the necklace will stop me doing anything really bad."

"I'm proud of you. But you don't need to push yourself." Kara said.

"I know." The teen said.

"Also, if things get too bad, call me." Kara said.

"I will." The teen said as another person entered the room.

"Frax." Alex said looking over to him.

"Hello Alex." He smiled. "How are you feeling? In fact you don't need to tell me, I can read your face."

"Is this the last time I have to go through this?" The teen asked.

"I don't know. Your mixed genetics makes it hard to know. But if you want, our medical staff could look at you?"

"It's fine." Alex sighed.

"In which case, perhaps we could spend some time working on meditation techniques?" He asked looking from Alex to Kara.

"Nothing to lose." Alex said.

"You are welcome to join us." Frax said to Kara.

"I appreciate that, but I find my centre through food. Besides, I'm sure you two have a lot to catch up on."
