A/N: Thanks for the reviews.
Guest- thanks. At this stage Alex will get a few pushes, but currently I have no further plans.
Baratta jennifer - things can get worse
"Alex, we have a problem." Vasquez said entering Alex's office the next day.
"Another one?" Alex asked.
"Yes, and a big one."
"What?"
"We have been picking up a series of energy surges."
"What type of surges?"
"Ones we expect from portals." Vasquez said. "We have sent drones to the areas." She said pulling up a map on the screen.
"That's a lot of areas." Alex said looking at the maps.
"That would be the problem." Vasquez said. "All teams are standing by."
"I need to brief the President, as soon as you learn more let me know." Alex said.
"Of course. You want me to get Supergirl down here?"
"Yes, but don't let her go out alone until we understand the risk or there is no choice."
"Sure thing." Vasquez said as Alex walked off to call the President.

"The army and air force is on stand by." Alex said as she walked back into the control room where Supergirl was waiting with Vasquez. She then asked. "Do we need them?"
"Not sure they'd do much good." Kara said.
"Why?"
"These guys are Bevlocs. Bullets won't hurt them. They are built like tanks." Kara said pointing to the screen. She then pointed to the next screen and said. "As for these guys their breath will kill anyone who goes near."
"Fortunately they are in the desert and away from people." Vasquez added. "The good news is no sign of fleets. Everyone has come through portals."
"At the same time?"
"Sounds odd, but right now nothing we can do about that." Vasquez said.
"So what do you want me to do?" Kara asked.
"How many groups?" Alex question Vasquez.
"Eleven confirmed so far."
"Can your teams contain them?" Kara asked her sister.
"Maybe for a while."
"In which case let's pick them off in order." Supergirl said. "There seem to be four different species. This one is the most dangerous. If your team can hold these guys I'll stop those ones.
"Kara, there are a lot of them." Alex said looking at the screen.
"I know."
"Can you really stop them by yourself?"
"I can try." Kara said.
"Come with me a second." Alex said leading her sister out of the control room to somewhere quiet.
"What is it?" Kara asked.
"You really okay for this after what happened yesterday?"
"You said I was free from Red-K."
"You are, that's not what I meant." Alex said.
"I am okay." Kara promised her.
"Okay." Alex said. "But no unnecessary risks and if I say leave you leave."

"Hey." Matt said standing as Alex walked into the coffee shop. "You're here."
"Didn't you get my reply?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, but I was still convinced you were going to have a change of heart."
"Did you want me to?"
"No, of course not. I just thought you'd come to your senses. But seeing you haven't, want a coffee? Then if you haven't had enough of me go for a meal and a movie?"
"Sounds nice." Alex said. "Can I ask something?"
"Sure."
"Why now? I mean aren't you going on your spring break trip tomorrow?"
"Yeah. This way if I make an idiot out of myself tonight, I have two weeks to get over my embarrassment." He explained.
"Smart." Alex said as she saw the news headline on the screen.
"You okay?" Matt asked, seeing Alex's attention on the screens in the corner.
"Yeah. Sorry."
"Your family is from there?" He asked seeing the headline about the attack in National City.
"Yeah."
"I'm sure they will be okay." Matt said. "Why don't you call your mom?"
"She'll be working." Alex said. "It's okay. I'm sorry I -"
"It's okay. I get being worried about your family." Matt said. "Family is important. So what would help, going back or distracting you?"
"I won't be good company." Alex said.
"Probably better than me." Matt said. "Let's get a coffee."

"Alex, there are way more than we thought." Kara said as she flew near the cave network where the aliens had appeared and heard all the heartbeats.
"How many more?" Alex asked.
"Over a hundred I'd say. I won't be able to capture them quick enough, but maybe … "
"Maybe what?" Alex asked.
"I have an idea."
"Want to share it?" Alex asked getting frustrated.
"I'm sealing the caves. It won't last long, but maybe it will be long enough to deal with the others." Supergirl said. "I should be done in two minutes, let me know where to go next."
"There are two groups approaching the city. Indomitable is livestreaming one of them." Vasquez said.
"Can't we use the new laws to stop him?" Alex asked.
"Didn't Lucy say emergency use only?" Vasquez asked.
"We are being attacked by many, many aliens." Alex countered.
"Still not sure that counts as an emergency in Lucy's eyes." Vasquez said before hitting the radio. "Supergirl, take the group to the south of the city, they are the ones with the poison breath. A DEO team will be at the caves in a few minutes."
"On it." Supergirl said.

"Do you think being a jerk is his ultimate power?" Matt asked as they heard Indomitable's commentary in the background.
"Pretty sure my mom thinks that." Alex said frowning at the screen.
"What I don't get is surely someone in National City is having a heart attack or getting mugged." Matt commented. "Surely he should be helping them, not plastering his face on TV." He added as Alex's phone rang.
"It's Mel." Alex said reading the caller ID.
"Rescue phone call?" Matt asked.
"What?" Alex asked confused.
"Doesn't matter." Matt said as Alex answered the call. As soon as she answered Mel started talking quickly.
"What? … You need to slow down … when …. where are you? .. .Okay, I'll be right there." She said ending the call.
"What's wrong?" Matt asked.
"MJ's in hospital."
"Let's go." Matt said leading Alex out of the coffee shop.

"What is the situation with Indomitable?" Alex asked as she watched the screens in the control room showing some aliens being contained and others fighting her sister and various teams.
"He has publicly offered his help." Vasquez said. "The President publicly declined and said his agencies, meaning us, have it all under control."
"No pressure then." Alex said dryly before saying. "Keep an eye on Indomitable, I don't know how, but I am sure he is behind this."
"Ma'am, it looks like the western group will breach the city." Rose called over.
"We need to stop them." Alex said.
"We could send out everyone." Vasquez said.
"We could." Alex agreed. "But that would leave the DEO unprotected. We can't risk losing control." Alex countered.
"You think Indomitable wants something here?"
"Can't rule it out. And thanks to Dodds he knows what is here. A simple break out would help hi-. We need to lock down."
"You sure?" Vasquez asked.
"No. Send out the reserve teams from the desert base then lock down." Alex ordered. "For now we'll stay open."
00
"Mel?" The teen Alex asked as she entered the waiting room with Matt.
"Alex." The teen said before jumping up and hugging her.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. He started sweating badly and his side got really painful, then he collapsed. And no one here will tell me anything." Mel explained.
"I'll go talk to them." Alex said walking over to desk as Matt hung back with Mel.
"Are you family?" The woman asked as Alex reached her.
"Yes."
"Sister?" The nurse said not entirely believing Alex.
"Cousin."
"So not his next of kin?" The nurse asked.
"I am his only family in this State." Alex said. "Is he okay?"
"He's being prepped for emergency surgery." The woman said.
"What? Why?"Alex asked eyes wide.
"For now, I need you to fill out these forms. A doctor will be out when they can." The nurse said. "But I need you to get hold of his next of kin."
00
"How are things looking?" Alex asked Vasquez.
"The desert base is locked down. We can't do that here as we need somewhere to put the new prisoners, who are stacking up quickly. Supergirl is doing a great job, but we are running out of space."
"What about the beta site?"
"An hour before it is ready." Vasquez said. "Until then we will manage as best as we can."
"And our people?"
"Holding their own, but we need to end this quickly. Lena has given us a weapon she thinks can shut down all the portals. But worse case is it could take out the grid and cause massive blackouts."
"Do it." Alex said.
"On it." Vasquez said walking off, leaving Alex to look at the map. As she looked Alex was aware of her name being called moments before she was struck in the face and fell to the ground.
