Baratta jennifer - Kara will still be a bit jittery about it.

"Hi Sweetie." Eliza said grinning at Kara as she entered the main lab where she the older Alex, Lena and Eliza were waiting.

"Hi." Kara said before noticing Lena and her sister were also smiling at her. "What?"

"Don't play innocent." Lena said.

"What?"

"You and Steve." Her sister said.

"What?" Kara asked reddening.

"That steamy kiss." Lena said.

"How?"

"The kids."

"Not that they needed to as we saw the whole thing on CCTV." Lena said.

Kara was saved from any other comments by Eliza hugging her and saying. "I am so glad you are okay." She then pulled away and asked. "Are you okay?"

"I don't know." Kara said causing Eliza to hug her once more.

"How are you guys doing?" The older Alex asked entering the room the younger generation were waiting in, with Steve.

"We're fine." Her daughter said before asking. "Is it really over?"

"Indomitable is gone." Her mother said. "But there is still a lot of fighting and there is a lot of healing to come. But things are calming down."

"So what happens to us?" Mel asked.

"That's up to you. You can stay here or we can take you back to college, or back home." Alex said. "You are welcome to stay with us."

"Thanks." Mel said.

"I want to see my family." Matt said.

"Of course." Alex smiled. "J'onn will back soon and he will fly you there."

"Can't sleep?" The older Alex guessed when Diz entered the kitchen in the early hours.

"Oh, hi." Diz said surprised she was there. "Sorry am I interrupting?" He asked looking round.

"No, just processing." Alex said before standing and walking over to the cupboard. She then took out a cup and made another hot chocolate, which she passed to Diz. "How are you doing?"

"Isn't the full debrief tomorrow?"

"Yeah, this isn't that." Alex said.

"They threatened Kar, because of me." He said. "And I couldn't do anything."

"Is that why Gold has a broken jaw and several broken ribs?" Alex asked.

"I saw them- Harper had this power. I thought they'd killed her. And then when I escaped we fought and I got the upper hand." He then paused and said. "I'd won, but what I saw kept playing through my mind and I lost it. If Rice hadn't stopped me I could have killed him." He said before pausing, but knowing he had more to say Alex sat silently and waited. "I'm a bad person. I'm no better than my father. I am the person you always knew I was-"

"Diz, if for a second I thought you were a bad person you wouldn't be here."

"But I lost it, I could have killed him."

"You think I have never been there?" Alex asked. "If you ask Kara, as in the older one, she'll tell you there are lines that can never be crossed. But I know life isn't that simple. There are lines that shouldn't be crossed, that I have crossed, or maybe I moved where that line sits. Whenever my family is in danger I don't care about lines."

"Am I fired?"

"For what? Restraining your captor? Protecting Kara?"

"I was more thinking, losing my temper and nearly killing someone."

"While I would be careful about what you say in the debrief, I'm not going to punish you for having a normal reaction." Alex said. "Anyway, it's late and we both need sleep." Alex said standing, she then looked at Diz and added. "One piece of advice. Don't shut Kara out."

"Shouldn't you be on a date?" The teenage Alex asked her mother as she came out of her bedroom and saw her mother on the couch.

"Date?" Kara asked confused. "And at nine in the morning?" Kara added.

"It's morning? I thought it was 9pm."

"No, you slept through. You feeling better?"

"I guess. Still tired."

"Your grandmother told me what you did, so it's not surprising you are still tired." Kara said as the teen sat next to her on the couch.

"Want to talk?" Kara asked.

"About what?"

"What happened to you or Matt?"

"No and no. Just want a hug."

"Anytime." Kara said wrapping her arms round her as Chewie jumped on her lap. "You sure you don't want me to fly you up to Matt?"

"No. He wanted to see his family."

"When you change your mind you let me know." Kara said as Alex yawned. "You should try to get more sleep."

"Don't want to. Can we watch some movies?"

"Okay, but only if you eat ice cream."

"Didn't you say it was nine in the morning?"

"So?"

"Wouldn't breakfast be better? I mean normal breakfast like toast, not ice cream."

"It would, but there is none in the apartment and I'm not leaving you. I'll get the ice cream, you pick the movie." Kara said releasing her and going to the kitchen. But by the time she returned Alex was fast asleep on the couch.

"Everything okay?" Eliza asked joining her eldest in the lounge.

"Just checking in with the team."

"And?"

"The clean up is happening. Superman and the Flash have rounded up more friends so that should help."

"So why are you working?"

"I hate sitting around doing nothing." She said as her daughter and Diz came into the room.

"Hi mom, grandma." The younger Kara greeted.

"Hi Sweetie." Eliza smiled. She then looked at Diz and asked. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay." He said as Alex's phone rang. As she disappeared to take the call Eliza looked at Diz and said. "There are enough people in this family who won't admit when they are not okay. We don't need another."

"Fine, I'm a little sore." He said as Alex returned to the room.

"That was Kara."

"Everything okay?" Eliza asked.

"She is out of food. I'll take some round." Alex said before looking at Diz and ordering. "Make sure you get those wounds looked at today."

"Everything okay?" The older Alex asked as she entered the apartment a little while later.

"Yeah, but there is no food and I don't want to leave Alex."

"Where is she?"

"Back in bed. She woke up, came out and fell asleep so I carried her back to bed."

"Well I have a bag of food right here." Alex whispered. "You want me to stay with you?"

"Yes." Kara said.

"She's okay." Alex reminded her.

"But she got hurt."

"I know." Alex said hugging her. "But she is okay."

"How can she be?"

"I could ask the same thing about you." Her sister pointed out.

"What do you mean?"

"You were sent to the darkest place on Earth, all alone, you were blown up, you were made to believe Alex had died." Her sister listed.

"I may have some stuff to work through." Kara conceded. "But I can't until I know Alex is okay."

"She is probably saying the same about you." Her sister said.

"She is way too stubborn." Kara said.

"Well, doesn't take a genius to see where she gets that from." Her sister pointed out.

"I keep wondering if I made the right choice." Kara said after a moment.

"When?"

"When Lobo and I did what we did. I could have been killed. When Indomitable was about to explode, I thought that was the end. I thought about all the things I hadn't done."

"Hence kissing Steve?" Alex guessed.

"Maybe in part. But that's not where I was going. I could have been killed and I wouldn't have said goodbye to Alex."

"Very few people would have done what you did, you did it because you are a good person."

"But a terrible mother."

"Kara, you've always been able to make the hard calls for the benefit of others. And sacrificing yourself to stop Indomitable wasn't being a bad mother, it was ensuring Alex had the best chance of surviving."

"It doesn't feel like that."

"Because you are tired. You should get some rest. I'll stay right here in case you or Alex need anything."

"How are you feeling?" The older Alex asked when she saw her niece emerge from her bedroom.

"Okay I guess. Where's mom?"

"Asleep." Her aunt said.

"Is she okay?"

"Just tired." The older Alex said before going to the kitchen. "You need to eat. Don't worry, I have things other than ice cream."

"Thanks." The teen said.

"So anything you want to tell me?"

"Like what?"

"Symptoms you are not expecting."

"Just tired." The teen shrugged.

"Let me know if that changes, we don't want your mom worrying do we?"

"No." The teen said.

"Have you talked to your mom about what happened?" The older Alex asked.

"No. She said Uzheiu had told her."

"That's not quite the same thing." Her aunt said. "Have you talked to anyone?"

"I've been asleep for most of it. But I have talked to Kara a little."

"I know you want to process things. Because that is what your mom does. But don't process too long."

"I won't." The teen said before asking. "Is mom really okay?"

"You think she isn't?"

"I saw the news."

"What happened was bad, but your mom is a survivor. And don't worry I will keep an eye on her." The older Alex said as there was a knock on the door.

"Hi Steve." The older Alex greeted as she opened the door.

"Hey." He smiled. "How are they?"

"Kara is asleep and Alex is okay." She said stepping back and allowing Steve to see the teen.

"Hi Alex." He said. "How are you feeling?"

"Okay, I guess."

"I wasn't sure if you guys had food so I brought some. This bag is for you." Steve said passing one bag to the teenager. "Full of vitamins and protein. And this bag is for your mom. You probably don't want to look at the sugar content."

"Thanks." She said.

"I need to get to the DEO, you okay staying here?" The older Alex asked Steve.

"Um sure."

"Call if you need anything." She then said to her niece. "And make sure you eat."

"Okay." She said as she took a bran muffin out of the bag and started to eat as Steve sat awkwardly on one of the chairs.

"Is Martin okay?" Alex asked.

"He's fine. Although he is worried about you." Steve smiled before the two fell silent again.

"Canal Street." Alex said after a minute.

"Sorry what?"

"There's a retro diner on Canal Street mom really wants to go to. You should take her."

"I'm not sure we are actually dating."

"Pretty sure you have been doing the dating part for the last two years." The teenage Alex said.

"If we were to date, would you be okay with that?"

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"I don't know. I don't want to get in the way."

"You won't. Just don't give her too much sugar."

"Okay." Steve smiled. He then turned serious. "How are you really doing?"

"I'm still tired."

"I didn't mean physically. Thank you for what you did." Steve said. "If you hadn't Martin might not be here. But what you did, was dangerous. And just because you have powers, you don't have to save everyone. If you had died your mom would be broken."

"Martin and the others were taken because of me."

"No they weren't. They were taken because there are some sick people out there. You aren't responsible for their actions." Steve said as they heard a door open.

"Hey." Kara smiled walking out into the lounge.

"Mom." The teen said looking over.

"How are you feeling?"

"Better. Less tired." Alex said. "I think I am going to hang out with the others." She said standing.

"Okay, but don't push yourself." Kara said hugging her daughter before she left the apartment. Once she was gone Kara took a phone and fired off a message.

"Problem?" Steve asked.

"No, just getting MJ to come meet her." She said as a reply buzzed on her phone. Content Alex was okay she put her phone down and Steve asked.

"How are you feeling?"

"Okay I guess." She said avoiding eye contact.

"Good." Steve smiled.

"So about what happened." Kara started.

"With Alex? Indomitable? Lobo?" Steve listed.

"No. Us. If you want to forget that ..."

"You kissed me?" Steve guessed.

"Yes. I mean I was out-"

"I kissed you back." Steve said stepping closer to Kara.

"So you don't hate me? Want to run away?"

"No. Should I?" Steve asked.

"I don't know. Maybe."

"Kara, I like you and I'm not going anywhere. But, what I don't get is why now?"

"I thought I was going to die and I thought about everything I would lose and everything I'd regret and then I saw you and you asked about Alex."

"I didn't really follow any of that." Steve said.

"Sorry."

"Right now Alex needs you, but I'll be here, however you need me."

"Thank you." Kara said before asking. "Can I have a hug?"

"Of course." He said pulling her into his chest.
