Baratta jennifer - Thanks!
"Where are we with everything?" Alex asked approaching Vasquez the next day.
"As you know Indomitable had a lot of allies and financial backers. Over the last few days many have tried to put distance between them and Indomitable. Some claiming there were under the influence of mind control. There is a lot of self preservation going on. However, some haven't and the FBI are keeping a tight eye on them. What I am concerned about is the backers we don't know about."
"How many of those do we think there are?"
"A lot. We are working our way through accounts and premises, but it will take a while."
"What about Indomitable? Any confirmation he is dead."
"The teams have found nothing. But then again we aren't expecting much to have survived and what did has probably been eaten. I doubt we'll ever find what is left."
"And Lobo?"
"Nothing. Again he could have been eaten, but I'm guessing we didn't get that lucky."
"And the metas?"
"We are pretty sure we are going to find a lot of bodies. We just aren't sure where. However, we have a lot of people asking for deals." Vasquez said.
"Deals for what?"
"Information for immunity."
"Have they been reminded if they would have died if they had stayed with Indomitable?"
"They aren't following that logic." Vasquez said.
"What about Cam?"
"Nothing. But you've seen it out there, it will take weeks or months to go through the debris. He may yet turn up." Vasquez said. "A more immediate problem is the city has gone nuts and is attacking metas and aliens."
"So they need someone to bring calm?" Kara said approaching them.
"Not sure it is that easy." Vasquez said.
"Maybe." Kara said.
"You thinking of coming back?" Alex asked.
"Yeah."
"Are you sure about this?" Alex asked guessing what her sister was about to do.
"Yes." She said. "But I'm going to need Cat's help. But first I need to talk to Alex. I'll see you later."
00
"Mom?" Alex asked confused as her mother came into the apartment.
"Hey. How are you feeling?" Kara asked.
"Okay I guess." The teen said stroking Chewie. "How come you are back?"
"I wanted to talk to you." Kara said moving to the couch.
"About how you are about to come back as Supergirl?"
"How did you know?"
"I saw the news, I knew you wouldn't be able to sit back." The teen said. "The city needs you."
"So do you."
"You being Supergirl won't stop you helping me." Alex pointed out. "But …"
"But what?"
"Aren't you scared?"
"Yes." Kara replied without skipping a beat. "But what scares me more than anything is something happening to you. To stop that we need some where safe and peaceful to live and Supergirl can do more to achieve that."
"I know." The teen said.
"But if you don't want-"
"I'm fine with you being Supergirl." The teen said.
"You don't sound it."
"I am. I mean I'll worry about you, but you've always managed to get into trouble, Supergirl or not." She said as she fiddled with her sleeves.
"Then what's wrong?"
"You being Supergirl, despite being scared, makes me feel even more of a let down." Alex said, staring down at the sleeves she was playing with.
"Alex you aren't letting anyone down. Plus even if you wanted to be a hero we agreed not until after college so why are you trying to force this?" Kara asked taking hold of one of her daughter's hands.
"I don't know. I just feel like a fake and coward."
"You are not a coward or a fake." Kara said. "What happened to you was terrible-"
"Not compared to what happened to you."
"We have both been through some bad stuff." Kara said. "But it's not actually a competition." She paused and added. "It will take time to get over it. But no one, especially me, thinks you are a let down or a coward or a fake." It was then she took in what her daughter was wearing and asked. "Why are you here by yourself and still in your pyjamas?" She then looked at the coffee table where her daughter's phone was silently sitting. "Still haven't heard from Matt?"
"No."
"I'm sorry." Kara said hugging her. "Why don't we do something tonight?"
"Because you are having dinner with Uzheiu."
"She'd understand."
"It's okay, I'll hang out with Martin."
"Okay." Kara said. "Let me know if you change your mind." She then gave her daughter one more hug before saying. "I have to get to work. I'll see you later."
"Mom?"
"Yeah."
"When you come back as Supergirl, please be careful."
"I will." Kara smiled.

"Sorry, am I interrupting?" Kara asked entering Cat's office.
"Yes, but your face tells me your interruption is more important than telling the board members where to go. So what's wrong?"
"I need your help. Well Supergirl needs your help."
"Supergirl?" Cat asked.
"The city needs her now more than ever."
"True, but what do you need? What does Alex need?"
"Alex is struggling. She's scared and is convinced she is letting me down as she doesn't want to be a hero. But the thing is, part of the reason I've not come back is because I'm scared. And so is the whole city. And none of that will change unless someone does something. And if the Paragon of Hope can't help, who can?"
"Are you wanting me to endorse your decision?" Cat asked.
"No. I need your help getting the message out."
"Kara I could write you the best speech in history, but if it doesn't come from your heart it won't help." Cat said.
"I know. But I was hoping you could fine tune."
"Having a team and asking for help is what makes you better than your cousin." Cat said. "However, in this case, I believe I would weaken the message. But one thing I will say, is in this instant a speech may not be the way to go. Although it pains me to say it, in this case actions will speak louder than words." She then paused and added. "That said, I will expect an exclusive interview with Supergirl."

"What have you done with Mel?" Alex asked her son when MJ returned alone.
"She's shopping."
"So?"
"I could think of nothing worse." He shrugged.
"How did Mel take that?"
"She knows me." MJ said.
"How are you and Mel doing with everything that happened?" His mother asked.
"A lot better than Alex."
"Has she talked to you?"
"No, but she keeps spacing out and does that silent frown thing she does when she is stressed, and when I ask her she gives me that scary glare thing she does when she is angry." MJ said. "And Matt running off and going silent probably doesn't help."
"Any idea what happened there?"
"He was really freaked out by what happened to Alex. I assumed he just needed to clear his head, but why he isn't talking to anyone now, no idea." He said before asking. "Is Diz okay?"
"Why do you ask?"
"He did not look okay when he came to Lena's lab. And ever since he has looked, I don't know freaked out."
"He went through a lot." His mother said. "It'll take time."
"Anything I can do?"
"You tell me."
"I offered to help at the garage, but he said he was going to lay off it for a few weeks. Which kinda confirmed he wasn't okay. I just feel bad after everything he did for me, I can't do much."
"I'm sure he'll talk when he is ready." Alex said as they heard the front door open.
"Anyone here?" The younger Kara called.
"Through here." Alex called back.
"Hey." The younger Kara said entering the kitchen with Diz. "Did we just see Supergirl flying round?"
"Yeah, your aunt decided the city needed her." The older Alex said.
"She's right, but is she okay?" The younger Kara asked.
"She says she is." Her aunt said before Kara noticed someone was missing.
"Where's Mel?" The younger Kara asked, repeating her mother's question from earlier.
"Shopping."
"Didn't know you two could exist not in the same room." Kara commented.
"That's rich coming from you." MJ shot back.
"We're going to see if we can get Alex to cheer." Kara said. "Want to help?"
"Sure." MJ said as Eliza entered the kitchen.
"Hi Grandma." Kara smiled.
"Hi Sweetie."
"See you later." The younger Kara said as she left with her brother and Diz.
"Something I said?" Eliza asked her daughter.
"They are going to try and cheer Alex up."
"Weren't they one short?"
"Mel is out shopping."
"Without MJ?"
"Even he has limits apparently." Alex shrugged.
"You okay?" Eliza asked Alex.
"Yes."
"You look tired."
"Well it's been a long few days and there is lots of tidying up to do."
"I'm going out to dinner with your sister, do you want to join us?"
00
"How did Alex take the cape coming out?" Alex asked her sister over dinner.
"She said he was fine."
"But?" Her sister prompted.
"She thinks she is letting me down." Kara said.
"Why?" Alex asked.
"Because she is scared. And I don't know how to help."
"She needs time." Eliza said as the older Alex pointed out.
"She has a lot to process."
"I know, I just wish I could take her pain away." Kara said.
"She's welcome to talk to one of the DEO shrinks." Alex offered.
"Something you could all benefit from." Eliza said before asking. "Are you actually ready to be back out there?"
"I passed all of Alex's tests."
"I didn't mean physically." Eliza said.
"Helping people helps me." Kara said.
"Speaking of people who help you? How is Steve?" Eliza asked.
"Very smooth." Alex commented.
"He is fine, but busy with work." Kara said.
"And the two of you are ... "
"Friends. Alex needs me right now." Kara replied. Her tone marking the end of the conversation.
"Does that mean you are still my partner at Games' Night?" Her sister jumped in trying to change subjects.
"Of course." Kara smiled.
"Good, can't have the youngsters getting cocky tomorrow." Alex added.
