Baratta jennifer - Thanks!

"We're back." The teenage Alex said entering the apartment.

"Who is we?" Kara asked looking round. "Matt. Hi." She said confused by his presence.

"Hi." He said.

"You okay? You look a little … "

"Homeless?" He guessed.

"Not quite what I was thinking." Kara said. "Wait, you aren't homeless are you?"

"No."

"He bused down over the last few days." Alex explained.

"Bused? Why not -" Kara started to ask surprised.

"Plane? Can't afford it. I'm broke." Matt said.

"I was going to say, ask me to fly you down?" Kara asked.

"Oh … Didn't know that was a thing." Matt said.

"Of course it is." Kara smiled.

"Can Matt stay here for a few days?" Alex asked her mother.

"Of course." Kara agreed before asking. "You still going to join us for games night?"

"Is that okay?" Matt asked feeling guilty about disrupting everyone's plans.

"Why wouldn't it be?" Kara asked.

"Then sure." He said looking at Alex to make sure she was okay with the plan. "But can I shower first?"

"Just through there." Alex said pointing. "There are towels in the cupboard."

"Thanks." He said walking off. Once the door shut behind him Kara looked at her daughter and said. "Sure you want to come?"

"I want to do normal things." Her daughter said.

"Okay. I'll see you over there." Kara said. "Come on Chewie." But in response Chewie remained glued to Alex's side.

"We'll bring him over." Alex said looking down at the dog.

"Alex not with you?" Eliza asked when her youngest came into the house alone.

"She's with Matt." Kara explained.

"Matt? As in here or Arizona?" Her sister asked confused.

"Here."

"Did you know he was coming?"

"No. Don't think Alex did either." Kara said.

"Should we go to Lena's?" Alex asked.

"Why?"

"To give them some space."

"No they are coming for games' night." Kara said before pausing.

"What?" Alex asked.

"Um, well, Matt is going to stay at my place tonight. But I don't know where. I mean do I put him in the spare room, or with Alex?"

"Why don't you stop freaking out and let Alex figure it out?" Her sister suggested.

"Like you were calm when Diz first started staying over."

"At the time they were both high school kids. Alex and Matt are adults." Her sister reminded her.

"Well I am entitled to freak out."

"You are, but not in front of Alex. If you do, she'll get stressed."

"I hate it when you are so Yoda like." Kara complained.

"Feeling better?" The teenage Alex asked when Matt finally emerged from the shower, his hair still damp.

"Yeah, and more awake." He smiled. But as he started to walk towards Alex Chewie started to growl. "That reminds me I have something for you." He said disappearing again before returning with a small dog biscuit which he gave to Chewie. Seeing Alex's confused look he said. "I wanted him to like me. Food seemed the fastest way to his heart."

"Same trick works on my mom." Alex said.

"Should I buy chocolates?"

"Aren't you broke?" She asked him.

"Yeah." He conceded before sitting next to Alex on the couch and taking her hand. "I really am sorry for freaking out and running off."

"It's okay."

"No it's not. You were the one who went through all of that. Are you okay?"

"Sure. Why?"

"You were stabbed." He reminded her.

"All healed."

"That's not what I meant." He pointed out. "I get after why you don't trust me after I ran away-"

"I do trust you."

"You just told me you were fine. Which you clearly aren't. How can you be? I mean I am a mess and all I did was watch."

"Fine, I'm not okay. I keep having nightmares and I scared."

"That seems normal." He said pulling her into a hug.

"I really missed you." Alex said.

"Me too."

"But you shouldn't have come." Alex said.

"You want me to go?" He asked looking hurt.

"No, but yes. You don't understand."

"Then explain it."

"I can't control my powers very well, especially in my sleep. Especially when I'm …"

"Not okay?" Matt guessed.

"Yeah. So it's not safe here."

"I'll take the risk."

"Matt-"

"Alex, I trust you. Also I am broke, so unless you want me to sleep on a park bench-"

"What if I hurt you?"

"Pretty sure I am safer with you than on a park bench in National City." He said before leaning down and kissing her. But when Alex pulled away he started to apologise.

"I want to, but my mom is hugely protective and has super hearing, she hears everything."

"I see your point." Matt said as he went back to holding Alex. "Your mom is a reporter right? I mean when she is not doing her other job."

"Yeah."

"Do you think she can help me find a number."

"I guess."

"I've written down everything I know." He said passing her a piece of paper.

"Aren't these your-"

"My parents. Yes."

"You don't know your parents' phone number?"

"No. I mean it is on my phone, so why would I?"

"For times you don't have your phone." The teenage Alex said. "Come on, lets go over the road. Although Alex is probably your best bet."

"Hi Sweetie." Eliza said when Alex and Matt entered the house with Chewie. She then looked at the other youngster and greeted. "Hello Matt."

"Hi."

"Is Alex around?" The teenage Alex asked.

"Yes, through there." Eliza said pointing to the lounge.

"Thanks." Alex replied before leading Matt through to the other room.

"Finally." MJ greeted. "I'm starving."

"Can you help us with something?" The teenage Alex asked her aunt, ignoring her cousin.

"Sure, what?"

"Can you get a number for these guys." Alex said handing her aunt the paper.

"With this much information, shouldn't be a problem. I'll get Rose on it now." She said before looking at Matt and asking. "Wait, aren't these your parents?"

"Yes."

"Are they missing?" The older Kara asked concerned.

"No. But their numbers are on my phone, which I don't have." Matt explained.

"When was the last time you spoke to them?" Kara asked.

"Four days ago. I mean I left at the crack of dawn and didn't want to wake them. But I left a note." He said feeling judged.

"I'll be right back." The older Alex said leaving the room.

"I can't believe you forgot your phone." MJ said.

"That's what you take from this?" The older Kara asked. "Has learning phone numbers really stopped happening?"

"We were forced to learn them as soon as we could talk." The younger Kara said.

"Then again mum is super paranoid." MJ said before asking Mel. "What about you?"

"Mom's yes, dad's no." She said before suggesting. "Maybe Matt not knowing is an Arizona thing."

"I never need to manually dial them." Matt protested as the older Alex came back in and gave Matt the sheet of paper with a phone number on.

"Here." The teenage Alex said passing him her phone.

"Thanks, I go call them." He said leaving the room.

Once Matt had gone the teenage Alex turned back to the room and saw everyone looking at her.

"What?"

"Something to tell us?" Her eldest cousin asked.

"No."

"Want to try again?"

"No."

"I think we need to be more direct." MJ said.

"Or you could drop it." The younger Alex said.

"You have met us right?" MJ asked. "You know that isn't happening."

"Don't tease your cousin." The older Alex warned.

"Thank you." The younger Alex said as she sat down.

"Besides you have all summer to get intel from her." The older Alex said to her son.

"That's why you are the professional." MJ commented to his mother.

"How come Chewie is being so affectionate?" MJ asked suspiciously seeing Chewie sitting on Matt's lap later that evening.

"Matt gave him food." Alex explained.

"That would do it. Same trick works on aunt Kara." MJ pointed out.

"So I've been told." Matt responded.

"I can not be bought that easily." Kara protested.

"A sticky bun says you can." Her sister countered.

"Worked for Diz." The younger Kara commented.

"If you guys put as much effort into the quiz as you are into bullying me, you might not be loosing so badly." The older Kara said.

"Okay, next question is sports." Eliza said picking up a card.

"We are so making a comeback." MJ said to Mel before Eliza asked.

"What is the current name for the NFL franchise whose first ever draft pick was Jim Lawrence."

"Arizona Cardinals." Matt immediately said.

"Correct." Eliza said. "Bonus question, what were they known as back then?"

"Chicago Cardinals." Matt answered.

"Correct."

"How? You're a nerd." MJ asked in disbelief.

"My father loves the Cardinals. Hoped one of us would play, but soon gave up hope. But we still had to sit and watch every game and listen to every fun fact about them, which occasionally comes in handy." He explained.

"Looks like you guys are going to finish last." The younger Kara said to her brother.

"There's still time." MJ said.

"Not really." Mel said. "Unless the rules change to bring in deductions."

"What?" MJ asked looking at the scores.

"Wow, your math sucks." His sister commented.

"I'll be back in a minute." Alex said climbing off the couch and leaving the bickering group. Frowning the older Kara followed her from the room.

"You okay?" Kara asked joining her daughter in the kitchen.

"I guess."

"What's wrong?" Kara asked.

"What if they are targeted again?"

"Who?"

"Everyone who is next door."

"I know it is hard." Kara said. "And I know you will have to live with that worry. But the people next door aren't going anywhere, even if you do push them away."

"Doesn't that make it worse?"

"In a way, but knowing that there are people who will always be there for you is comforting." Kara said hugging her before pulling away and adding. "But that works both ways."

"What do you mean?"

"Matt might need a little backup."

"Why?"

"Your cousins are interrogating him."
