A/N: Thanks for the reviews.
Baratta jennifer - Thank you
"Morning." The older Alex said she entered the kitchen a few days later where her daughter was standing by the coffee maker.
"Hi mom." Her daughter said. "Want some coffee?"
"Thanks." Alex smiled.
"You okay?" The younger Kara asked handing her a cup.
"Yes. Why?"
"Not like you to have a lie in."
"I got back late last night." Alex said.
"Everything okay?"
"It's fine. Just lot's going on clearing up Indomitable's mess. It's nothing for you to worry about."
"You sure?"
"Yes. Besides you have more important things to think about. Any plans for today?" Alex asked
"Not so far. MJ and Diz are doing their car thing and Mel has gone out shopping. Alex is spending the morning video chatting with Matt." The younger Kara listed.
"And you?"
"I have an assignment to finish."
"An all day assignment?"
"No. Should just take an hour."
"Want to hang out afterwards?"
"Sure, but do you have time?"
"Even I get days off, especially after all the overtime." Alex pointed out as they heard the front door open moments before the younger Alex rushed into the kitchen.
"Hi Ale-" The older Alex started only to realise something was wrong. "What's happened?"
"Mom is missing."
"What do you mean missing?" Alex asked.
"She didn't come home last night. I thought she stayed with Steve, but he was working. And she isn't answering her phone."
"I'll find her." The older Alex said. "Stay here and let me know if she calls."
"I'll stay with you." The younger Kara offered her cousin.

"There must be a mistake." Frax said as he looked at the various screens in front of him.
"What do you mean?" Alex asked as she impatiently paced.
"According to this she is not on Earth." He said staring as he hit some buttons on the console.
"As in not on Earth or not alive?" Alex asked.
"Even if she were dead, this would detect her." Frax said.
"Do you just need to adjust the sensitivity?" Alex asked.
"No. this is on the maximum setting. There is no way it would not detect her." He said. "I will get everything checked, but based on this I am convinced she is not on Earth."
"Where's Lobo?" Alex asked guessing who took her.
"I don't know, but I will find out."
00
"Hi Steve." The younger Kara greeted as she opened the front door a short time later.
"Hi. Any news?" He asked.
"Not yet."
"How's Alex?"
"Come in and see." The younger Kara said backing away from the door, revealing her pacing cousin.
"Hi Alex." Steve greeted. "How are you holding up?"
"I should have noticed sooner."
"This isn't your fault." Steve said. "And your mom will be fine."
"You don't know that."
"I know she will do whatever it takes to get home to you." Steve said. "I also know your aunt is doing everything she can to find her."
"I'm scared."
"I know." Steve said. "But you need to have faith." He paused and asked. "In the mean time is there anything I can get you?"
"No." The teen said before looking at him and asking. "Do you want to wait with us?"
"I do. But I have to get back to work. You okay if I come by after my shift?"
"Yes."
"Great. I'll see you then. In the mean time if you hear anything you'll let me know?"
"Okay." The teenage Alex said as Steve walked to the front door. Just as he reached it the younger Kara asked.
"You doing okay?"
"You don't need to worry about me, just focus on Alex. Call if you need anything."
00
"Tell me you have something." Alex said as she marched into the DEO control room.
"Maybe." Vasquez said. "We think there has been portal activity."
"You think?"
"We picked up a signature from last night. The time frame fits. We have a location where the portal was activated, we are going to send a team."
"Good." Alex said. "I guess if it is a portal that rules out Lobo."
"But not Indomitable."
"You think he survived?" Alex asked.
"It's possible. Or maybe the person behind Indomitable, if there was one, is involved."
"That's a lot of ifs." Alex said as Ruby approached.
"The strike team is in position."
"Tell them to go in, but remind them we need that portal in one piece." Vasquez said.
00
"I'm going to walk Chewie." The teenage Alex said after a few hours.
"Want me to come with you?" Her cousin offered.
"No, I just need some time by myself."
"Okay, but if you aren't back in thirty, I am coming to find you." Kara said.
"I'll be fine. Besides I'm sure I'll have my DEO tail."
"Wait, you aren't going to do something stupid are you? Like try to get kidnapped so you get taken to your mom?" The younger Kara asked.
"No. But I may go by the DEO."
"Okay, but I mean it if you aren't back in thirty I coming after you." Her cousin said before warning. "Remember if you do something stupid, it is Chewie who will pay the price."
"I won't do anything stupid." Alex reiterated before leaving. Once she was gone the younger Kara took out her phone and called Diz.
00
"How are you holding up?" Diz asked entering Alex's office.
"Diz? What are you doing here? I thought you were with MJ?"
"I was. Kar filled me in. MJ has gone back to the house and I came here, I need to get cleared for duty anyway." Diz said. "But Ruby filled me in. She's really not on Earth?"
"Looks that way. But we think we have found the portal, so we know where we are going." Alex said.
"Anything I can do?"
"Help kara watch-" Alex started to say only for her niece to burst into the office.
"Have you found her?" The teenage Alex asked.
"Kind of. We think she is off world."
"Off World?" The younger Alex asked.
"We think she was taken through a portal. But we will get her back. We're just preparing a team." Her aunt said.
"I'm going too." The younger Alex said.
"Absolutely not." The older Alex countered.
"I'm not leaving her."
"No one is asking you to. My team is trained for this. We will get her back."
"Your team lost her in the first place." The teen said before apologising. "I'm sorry."
"I know you are scared, but you need to trust me." The older Alex said.
"Fine." The teenage Alex said storming off.
"That wasn't a great idea." Diz said.
"What?" Alex snapped at Diz.
"You know she is just going to take the ship and go by herself?"
"She doesn't know where to go." Alex said.
"Unless she walked through the control room and saw the screens. Which she did." Diz pointed out.
"Damn it Alex." The older Alex said hurrying after her niece as she walked she took out her phone and called her daughter.
00
"Your mom sent you to stop me." The teenage Alex guessed when she saw her cousin waiting in the apartment.
"That would not be possible." The younger Kara said. "Stall maybe, so she can stop you."
"I don't have time." The teen said passing Chewie to her cousin before heading to her mother's bedroom.
"Do you know where you are going?" Kara asked following her as Chewie ran from one to the other.
"Yes, I saw the coordinates." The teen said going through a drawer.
"Yeah, but do you know anything about that planet?"
"No, but I am guessing Frax does."
"Okay, but don't you need weapons? I mean half your powers won't work there and we have no idea about the other half."
"I'll be fine."
"You keep having panic attacks." Her aunt pointed out as she walked into the bedroom, while trying to catch her breath.
"I'll be fine."
"And what if you're not? You really want me to stop helping your mom so I can help you?"
"I'll be fine. I'll have powers there."
"We don't know that." Her aunt countered.
"They work everywhere else. But it doesn't matter, I'm going regardless."
"Why do you have to be so stubborn?" The older Alex asked.
"She's my mom."
"I know." The older Alex said, her tone softening. "And I will find her."
"I can help." The teen half pleaded.
"Okay." The older Alex sighed.
"Really?" The teen asked.
"Yes, but if I allow this you follow every order I give you. No arguing."
"Okay."
"I mean it. You breathe the wrong way and you will be locked up in the DEO until you are fifty." The older Alex warned. "You will have a DEO escort who you will stick by no matter what. If you don't they will also be locked up at the DEO until they are fifty."
"I'll stick by them."
"The let's go."
00
"So what's the plan?" Vasquez said approaching Alex.
"Go in, get her, come back." Alex said simply.
"I meant what is the official story of where everyone is?"
"Training exercise."
"And without meaning to be picky, who is going on this mission? We are a little light."
"I know." Alex said. "And most of those who aren't signed off sick are already committed to the clean up opp."
"So off duty volunteers?" Vasquez asked.
"Even then we are light." Alex said looking at the numbers.
"So what if this really were training?" Vasquez asked.
"What do you mean?"
"The new recruits we could-"
"We can't send them off world." Alex said.
"What if they just guarded the portal, allowing the main team to go in and rescue Kara?" Vasquez asked. "Let's face it all of those in the third year and above have way more experience than previously. And it would be good experience for them to go off world."
"You have people in mind?"
"Yes, although after what happened with Diz's cohort it is not like we are overwhelmed with numbers." Vasquez said passing Alex a tablet. As Alex read the list Vasquez said. "I know what you are going to say but-"
"No, this could work." Alex said standing.

"Out there you probably won't be invincible. This suit will protect you." Lena said to the teenage Alex while checking it was working. "But it won't make you invincible."
"I know." The teenage Alex said.
"Well what you don't know is I have installed a Hail Mary."
"A what?" The teen asked confused.
"If everything goes wrong clench your fist for five seconds." Lena said.
"What will that do?"
"Electrocute the suit and everyone within twelve feet. You'll be safe. They won't. But it will only work once." Lena warned.
"Okay."
"It's not too late to back out." Lena pointed out.
"I need to go."
"That's because you take after your mother." Lena pointed out. "Okay, you are good to go."
"So are we." Ruby said entering the lab with Diz.
"You're both coming?" Alex asked them.
"Yep. We are your guards." Diz said.
"The boss thought you might listen to her orders if Kara's happiness was on the line." Ruby said.
"Aren't you still a trainee?" Alex asked Diz.
"Yeah, but I can still kick your ass in training, which counts for something." He shrugged before attaching something to Alex's back.
"What's that for?"
"To make sure we don't lose you." Diz said as Ruby checked a display on her arm.
"We are working." Ruby confirmed.
"Please don't do anything stupid." Lena said hugging Alex before leaving the lab.
"She's ready." Lena said approaching the older Alex.
"Good."
"Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Nope."
"Then why are you taking her?"
"Firstly, she'd go anyway, this way I can keep an eye on her. Secondly, DNA."
"DNA?" Lena asked.
"We have some homing technology. It is still flakey. Very flakey. We need a sample less than six hours old, even then it is not great. But Alex might be enough of a match to narrow down the search area."
"Couldn't you just use Frax?"
"His ship will take over a week to get there. I'm not waiting that long."
"Anything I can do?"
"Make sure the Med bay is prepped."
