A/N: Thanks for the reviews.
Baratta jennifer - I'm glad you liked it.
"Where's Al-?" Kara asked walking into her sister's office the next morning, only to fall silent when she saw her daughter sleeping on the couch, resting against her cousin.
"She's fine." Her sister whispered standing and leaving the office so not to disturb her niece.
"She's really okay?" Kara asked when they were both outside the office.
"She's fine. She woke up last night and we had some pizza and she fell asleep. She's okay." The older Alex summarised, leaving out the self imposed imprisonment. "But she does want to talk to you."
"Thank you for looking after her."
"Anytime. How are you?" Alex asked.
"I'm okay."
"And the truth?"
"A little freaked out. Okay completely freaked out." Kara confessed. "I keep seeing what I did. And all I can do is think about what Worldkiller-1 could have done to her, did do to her and I-"
"You are both okay." Alex said hugging her.
"How can she be? I tried killing her. Again."
"That was Worldkiller-1, not you." Alex reminded her.
"What if she can't see that difference?"
"Seeing how worried she was about you last night, I think it is safe to assume that is not the case." The older Alex said before pulling back and asking. "Did you get any sleep last night?"
"Not much. I kept seeing me kill her." Kara confessed.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have sent you home."
"No, you were right. It was better for Alex."
"But for you?"
"I wasn't alone. Steve stayed with me and he kinda made me talk and eat."
"Good, but make sure you look after yourself." Her sister said as the office door opened.
"Mom?" The teenage Alex asked.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Kara asked.
"I missed you." Alex said hugging her.
"Me too." Kara said holding her tightly.
"You both need to get checked out, so meet me in the infirmary when you are ready." The older Alex said walking off.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that." Kara said still holding her daughter.
"I was so scared when you were missing." Alex said into the hug. "You sure you are okay?"
"Me? I'm fine." Kara said pulling back. "I'm worried about you."
"I'm okay. I didn't even have to stay in the infirmary last night."
"How come you get preferential treatment?" Kara asked her.
"Alex said it was because I listened to her."
"That sounds kinda boring." Kara said before Alex hugged her again.
"I missed you so much." The teen said.
"Me too." Kara said.
"You sure you are okay?" Her daughter asked pulling away.
"I'm fine." Kara smiled. "But we need to talk about what happened to you. But first let's go to the infirmary."
00
"Okay, you are both fine." The older Alex said as she read the scans.
"You sure?" Kara asked.
"You aren't feeling okay?" Her sister asked concerned.
"I meant Alex." Kara replied.
"She is fine." The older Alex said. "You are both normal. But you should both take it easy for the next day or so." Alex warned before looking at her sister. "As for you, no going anywhere alone."
"I can take care of myself." Kara pointed out, earning a snort of derision from her sister. "I can." Kara protested before looking at her daughter and asking. "Ready to go?"
"Can I see Diz before we go?" The teenage Alex asked.
"Sure. He's next door." Her aunt said.
"Thanks." The teen said hopping off the bed and walking to the door her aunt had pointed at.
"Hey." Alex greeted as she entered the room.
"Hi." Diz said sitting up in the bed. "You okay?"
"I'm fine. You?"
"Remind me never to upset you." Diz said.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay, I know you were trying to protect me." Diz smiled. "But maybe next time you protect me you are a little gentler."
"I'm sorry." Alex repeated.
"That was a joke." Diz said. "I'm fine."
"You're in the infirmary."
"That's just your aunt being careful." He said. "You sure you are okay?"
"Thanks to Kara and MJ." Alex said before adding. "Thanks for what you did and I really am sorry about hurting you."
"Alex you saved me. Don't be so hard on yourself."
00
"You sure she is okay?" Kara asked her sister as she watched her daughter through the window.
"She's fine. All the scans look normal. Physically she has recovered."
"But emotionally?"
"I don't know. She didn't have any nightmares last night, but I know she wants to talk to you." Alex said. "But if I am being honest I'd say she is doing better than you."
"I'm okay." Kara said. "I mean I'm not, but I am."
"That makes no sense." Alex said.
"I just feel so guilty."
"What happened was not your fault. It was Worldkiller-1." Alex reminded her.
"I let it take over my mind and body."
"Except it didn't, not completely. Which is why you are still alive." Her sister argued just as the door opened and the teenage Alex came back in.
"You okay?" Kara asked her.
"Yes, but I can stay longer if you two want to talk."
"No, let's go home." Kara said.
00
"Has Alex gone home already?" Lena asked when she found the older Alex standing outside her DEO office.
"Yes. About an hour ago."
"So why are you standing outside your office?" Lena asked before standing along side Alex and seeing the younger Kara was asleep on her couch.
"Come on." Lena said. "Let's go get some breakfast."
"I'm not-"
"Alex I can guess what you are thinking right now. You really want that to reach its conclusion here?"
"No."
"Then let's go."
00
"Talk." Lena demanded twenty minutes later as they sat in her penthouse.
"There's not much to say."
"Which is proof you are in shock."
"Shock?"
"You thought you had lost Kara again and then you saw Kara and Alex lying unconscious in the cave, and you immediately thought they were dead. Then, your brave, but incredibly stupid children took a leaf out of your book and there were moments you thought they weren't going to make it. The only reason you are still functioning is because you are running on fumes. And when you do that there is a danger it leads to something else. So you need to deal with it now."
"And what about you?" Alex asked.
"The power of boxes." Lena said. "And whiskey. Neither are an option for you, so start talking."
"I don't know how long I can keep doing this." Alex confessed. "In the infirmary when Alex was crashing and Kara was stuck in her dream I thought I was going to los-" Alex started to explain only to pause to catch her trembling voice. "Before that there was Kara getting blown up by Indomitable, which reminded me so much of what happened with Lex. And I know we found her, but for twenty three minutes I thought she was dead. But it wasn't just thinking she was dead it was the fact that we would never be able to prove it. We'd be in the same cycle as before. That broke me last time, despite having Kel. How would I have coped this time?"
"Have you talked to Kara?"
"How can I? I mean she was the one that was blown up. Plus she is helping Alex, who went through so much. Whereas I am dealing in hypotheticals."
"Pain is pain." Lena said.
"And I have spawned another cycle."
"What do you mean."
"Kara and MJ. What they did, straight out of my playbook." Alex said. "And then when we were in the infirmary and Alex started crashing, do you know why I didn't pull Kara out?"
"Because you trusted MJ?"
"No. I froze." Alex said. "Kara's life was on the line and I froze. What kind of mother am I?"
"As some one who had a very bad mother I can safely say, and with authority, that you are a good mother, a good sister, a good aunt and a good friend." Lena assured her.
"Right now I don't feel like any of those things."
"Probably because you stayed up all night making sure Alex was okay. Which proves my point." Lena said as Alex's phone buzzed.
"I've got to go." Alex said reading the message before standing and walking towards the door. As she reached it she turned to face Lena and said. "Thank you."
"Of course. But if you haven't gone home in an hour I will find you and drag you home." Lena warned.
