Baratta jennifer - They will all need luck

"Morning." Kara smiled when her daughter came into the kitchen.

"Hi." The teen said before hugging her.

"How are you feeling?"

"Okay, I guess."

"I hear you did well last night."

"MJ told you I cheated?"

"No." Her mother said.

"Mel?"

"No."

"Kara?" The teen asked as Matt emerged saving the older Kara from answering.

"Hey." Matt greeted.

"Hi Matt." Kara smiled. "I am just making pancakes, you want some."

"Umm-"

"It's okay, they're safe." The teenage Alex said.

"Okay, then great." Matt said.

"What exactly have you been saying about my cooking?" Kara asked her daughter.

"Only the truth."

"You know it is Sunday?" Alex asked approaching her sister who was on the DEO balcony.

"Yes."

"And you are meant to be resting?"

"I am."

"Yet you are at the DEO."

"Right back at you." Kara said.

"I wanted to check on you."

"That's why I'm here."

"What?"

"I thought you'd want to check I was okay."

"What's wrong? You don't normally turn up to check ups." Alex asked suddenly concerned.

"I was giving Alex and Matt space."

"And you couldn't go see Steve?"

"I think he is asleep, either that or he is still upset about the drubbing we got last night."

"You two did suck." Alex agreed.

"We weren't that bad."

"Yeah you were, which goes back to my previous question. You okay?"

"Just worried about Alex. She didn't sleep well last night. Lot's of nightmares. But she didn't mention them to me this morning."

"Maybe she doesn't want to worry you. Or maybe she is embarrassed about talking about them in front of Matt?" Alex said. "Maybe tonight when it is just you two she'll open up."

"When did you become such an optimist?" Kara asked.

"I just felt the need to restore the cosmic balance." Alex said. "And on that note, if you aren't doing anything now, I have something to show you."

"Is it food?"

"No. But we can get something later." Alex said leading her sister down the corridor.

"So what are we looking at?" Kara asked.

"We have got a new home for Gizmo. As in we have made a special room for him." Alex said leading her sister to one of cells. "He's not allowed to leave, but he's got a play pen thing." She added as Kara looked into the room.

"Thank you." Kara said.

"Sure. But now I need something from you."

"What?"

"The truth. I need to know how are you are doing and don't say fine."

"I'm a mess. I feel so angry and weak and pathetic. I keep screwing up."

"Want to know what I think?"

"What?"

"I think you have spent so much time being Supergirl, you have forgotten you are Kara."

"What?" Kara asked confused.

"As Supergirl you portray this persona of unbreakable steel and that's fine. But you, you are more than Supergirl, you are Kara, and Kara can break. And it is okay to recognise that."

"Is mom here?" Alex asked her aunt that evening.

"No, she had a rescue to do." The older Alex started to explain but as she saw her niece frown she added. "She's fine, we are keeping an eye on her. She'll be back in a minute with pizza." She then looked at Matt and said. "J'onn can fly you back anytime after dinner."

"Thanks." He said as MJ and Mel entered the room.

"Is dinner here yet?" MJ asked.

"Your aunt is bringing it." The older Alex said.

"With instructions to leave some for us?" MJ asked.

"It's not like she'll eat the vegetable pizza." The older Alex countered as there was a breeze moments before Supergirl was standing before them holding boxes.

"I have pizza, including your abhorrent flavour." Supergirl said to her daughter.

"Vegetables aren't abhorrent." Her daughter countered. "And shouldn't you eat better until you are recovered."

"I'm fine." Supergirl said as Mel suddenly figured out her identity and exclaimed to Alex.

"Oh my god, your mom is Supergirl."

"Wait, you didn't know?" The older Kara asked.

"No." Mel said.

"Seriously?" MJ asked as Matt said.

"I figured it out ages ago."

"Only after Indomitable told you Alex was an alien, so you don't exactly get bonus points." MJ said.

"At least I did figure it out." Matt said.

"So did I, eventually. I can't believe I didn't see that." Mel said before looking at Alex and saying. "No wonder you are always so stressed."

"Sure you don't want to go to Arizona with Matt?" Kara asked her daughter late that evening.

"No. I don't trust you not to get kidnapped." She said leaning against her mother. "Shouldn't you be out with Steve?"

"Not tonight." Kara said. "Tonight is about you."

"I'm okay."

"Really?"

"No."

"Want to talk?"

"No. Can we go out?"

"Of course. Where do you want to go?"

"Desert?"

"To train?" Kara asked.

"Yes." The teen confirmed.

"Okay." Kara agreed. "But if you feel weak or dizzy, we stop."

00

As Kara and Alex sparred in the desert Kara noticed that her daughter was getting frustrated.

"Try focusing on one thing only." Kara said before throwing another gentle punch, which Alex failed to see coming.

"Let's try something else." Kara said. "If your head isn't in it, there is no point. So let's work on concentration. Why don't you moving some rocks?"

"Fine." The teen said before taking a deep breath before stacking rocks with her mental powers. But when she made a stupid mistake she lost control and suddenly every rock within thirty metres was obliterated. Moving with superspeed Kara covered her daughter, trying to shield her from the flying debris and dust.

Once the dust settled Kara pulled away and asked.

"You okay?"

"Fine." Alex said sounding angry before stepping away and starting to move rocks again.

"Alex, that's enough." Kara said.

"No it's not." Alex argued.

"Yes it is. It is time to stop. Why are you pushing so hard?"

"I hate feeling weak." The teen said.

"I know. But I promise you that you aren't weak." Kara said hugging her as her phone rang.

"Everything okay?" Her sister asked.

"Yeah, just training." Kara said.

"You need backup?" Alex probed.

"No, we're fine." Kara said looking at her daughter.

"Okay, call when you get home."

"I will." Kara said ending the call before looking again at her daughter who said.

"I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"This." The teen said pointing at the dusty environment.

"This is why we train." Kara reminded her. "And although you lost control, in a way you didn't. I mean the cacti are unaffected. You only got the rocks, that's pretty impressive." She pointed out. "But seeing you have just burnt through all your energy let's get you home."

-00-

"Alex okay?" The older Alex asked as she entered her sister's apartment.

"Frustrated." Kara replied.

"Where is she?"

"Asleep. She passed out after we got back." Kara said.

"She talk?"

"Not really. But she took out a chunk of the desert, which said a lot."

"Want me to try tomorrow?"

"You have time?"

"Of course I do."

"How are you doing?"

"I don't know. I mean I really thought I was okay, but seeing Alex struggle may have made me realise I was less okay than I thought."

"Kara, you have dealt with so much, the only person who thinks you are or should be okay is you." Her sister reminded her as she took out her phone.

"What are you doing?" Kara asked.

"I am texting Steve."

"Why? Especially at one am."

"To get him to take you out tomorrow, well today-"

"He's not actually a babysitter." Kara reminded her.

"I know, but he makes you happy and I don't want you sitting alone stewing while I talk to Alex." She explained just as her phone buzzed. Having read the message she said.

"Now that is sorted, want to talk or watch a movie?"

"I was planning on sleeping." Kara said. "But we could do a movie."

"Movie it is." Alex said.
