"Director." A DEO doctor said from her doorway the next day.

"Yes." Alex said looking up.

"I have the autopsy results."

"Come in and sit down." Alex said.

"Sorry it took so long, but I wanted to make sure the results were accurate. And this is a complex set of circumstances. But I can confirm all four babies died in the same way and a very similar way to Indomitable."

"How do you mean?"

"Their cells effectively turned against them. Only instead of going nuclear they just died."

"But the babies didn't have powers." Alex said.

"No they didn't. But what caused Indomitable implosion was not necessarily to do with his powers." The doctor said. "I mean it was, but not directly. His cells were modified by being augmented."

"But we thought Indomitable needed the transplants to keep him stable."

"Yes."

"But the babies are unstable?"

"It is possible that what gave Indomitable's cells stability make the babies' cells unstable."

"Are all the babies going to face the same fate?"

"Yes." The doctor said.

"Any way to save them?"

"Not that we have found. For now it is about keeping them comfortable."

"Any chance they will turn nuclear?"

"No." The doctor said.

"Alex, you need to see-" Vasquez said walking into the office. Seeing the doctor she said. "I'm sorry."

"It's fine, we were just finishing." Alex said before looking back at the doctor. "Do what you can for them."

"Yes ma'am." He said leaving.

"Problem?" Vasquez asked.

"Yes. The babies can't be saved." Alex sighed before asking. What do you have?"

"We have decrypted some more documents and those labs weren't the only ones."

"You have locations?"

"Yes."

"Send teams in." Alex said. "But they may know we have this so make sure they are expecting traps."

"You seem troubled." Cat said joining Kara on the balcony.

"I'm not, well I am, but not as troubled as I was."

"What's wrong?"

"Four of the babies died." Kara said.

"I'm sorry, but I am sure there was nothing you could have done."

"That is what Eliza said. But I still feel responsible. How many others have died because I didn't stop Indomitable sooner?"

"You couldn't have stopped him sooner, he was more slick than a Presidential election campaign. If you had moved you would have lost."

"I refuse to believe there wasn't a different path that would have saved more people."

"There was without doubt also a different path that would have resulted in more deaths." Cat countered. "You did everything you could and far more than anyone else. You should be proud of your actions not second guessing them." She added. "But this isn't the only thing on your mind is it?"

"What?"

"I heard rumours you got into trouble."

"How?"

"I have sources everywhere. Also the city is nervous, when Supergirl doesn't show up, the rumours start flowing. I take it there was truth to the rumours."

"Yeah, got kidnapped, brainwashed and infected with Worldkiller-1, again, before trying to kill Alex, before she tried killing me only to get infected herself, before being saved by her cousins."

"You were only missing a day." Cat said.

"It was a long day."

"I assume Alex is okay?"

"Thanks to Kara and MJ, but she had to go through so much. And now she feels like I am disappointed in her. It's all a mess."

"I think the bigger mess, is the mess you are in. I think what you need is a break." Cat said.

"I can't. There is too much to do. The city is still a mess, the babies are still in danger, Alex is better than I am, but what if she isn't?"

"If that is the case she needs you in prime condition, not teetering on a break down. Have a day off. Go some where with Alex, or your whole family. Go to Midvale."

"You just said people notice if I'm gone."

"Get J'onn to cover for you." Cat countered. "Of if you don't want to do that, do something you can do. Help fix a bridge. Save some cats." She added as her office door opened moments before Kara's sister entered the office.

"Alex, what are you doing here?" Kara asked.

"I have news. The President gave me the okay to brief Cat as well."

"Take a seat." Cat said. As she watched Alex sit she guessed. "I'm assuming it is bad news?"

"Yes. We don't think we can save any of the babies. And the lab we found wasn't the only lab."

"How many?" Kara asked.

"We have found and raided six labs. Two had been cleared out. Three was full of bodies and the fourth had five live babies."

"But they will meet the same fate as the others?" Cat guessed.

"Yes." Alex said before looking at her sister and adding. "I'm sorry."

"Have you found out when they were created?" Cat asked.

"Yes, that is the main thing I wanted to talk to you about." Alex said looking at her sister. "The labs have been working on this project for three years. There was a lot of experimenting with Indomitable before he went public. And these babies weren't the first attempt."

"Was Indomitable behind it or someone else?" Kara asked.

"There are still way too many files to go through before we can make that assessment." Alex said. "But the point is, even if you had acted the minute Indomitable showed his face it wouldn't have helped those babies."

"When is this being made public?" Cat asked.

"I don't know if it is. That is way above my pay grade."

"Then why tell me?"

"The President wants to know how to break the news, if the news is broken."

"The President does remember I don't work for him?" Cat asked.

"Yes, but he felt like you'd want to make sure Supergirl was protected." Alex said. "He also felt that Supergirl would take unreasonable responsibility and suggested you could make her see reason." She explained before noticing her sister was being quiet. "Kara?"

"Sorry, what?" Kara asked looking round.

"You okay?"

"Yeah. But do you think my kidnapping was related to Indomitable?"

"No." Alex said. "The fact Worldkiller-1 was involved suggests Lobo was behind it."

"Then drop that investigation. Work on the babies-"

"Bu-" Alex started to argue only for Kara to jump in.

"Those babies have done nothing wrong. We should do everything we can for them. Besides Frax is investigating Lobo."

"You sure you want this?" Alex asked.

"Yes."

"Okay." Alex agreed. "But I will come back to what happened to you."

"Thank you." Kara said.

"Hey." Steve smiled as Kara entered the restaurant that evening.

"Hi. Sorry I'm late." Kara said before asking. "Aren't we two short?"

"Yeah, they have gone to a club."

"Alex? As in my Alex? Gone to a club?"

"Apparently." Steve said. "I mean it sounded flakey. But Martin wouldn't lie. And as unbelievable as that sounds, it lets me sleep at night." He added before saying. "Alex also said she is staying at mine tonight."

"This feel like a conspiracy." Kara said.

"It does. But I'm not complaining." Steve said as a waiter came with two large pizzas.

"Did I order?" Kara asked.

"No. I did." Steve said. "Taking advantage of the fact Alex isn't here, there is cheese. Much, much, cheese." He said as the two pizzas were placed on the table. Once the waiter had gone Steve asked. "So are we pretending everything is okay tonight or are you wanting to talk about how everything is not okay?"

"I'm not pretending everything is okay." Kara said. When she saw Steve's doubtful expression she said. "I'm not. I mean I was, but I've turned a corner. But over the last couple of days all I have done is deal with how not okay I am, so tonight can we just have a normal night?"

"Of course. Whatever works for you." Steve said. "But one question. What exactly is a normal night?"

"I have no idea." Kara confessed. "Food and movie?"

"Okay, although I have a counter proposal."

"Okay?"

"It is late night opening at the new amusement park."

"There's a new amusement park?"

"Yeah, I think you'll like it. So want to go after this?"

"Sure." Kara smiled.
