Baratta jennifer- still plenty of luck needed

"What happened?" Alison asked when she saw the group, drenched and muddy, walk into the house.

"Flash flooding and a landslide." Andy explained.

"Is anyone hurt?" Alison asked eyes wide.

"Thanks to Alex no." Stan said. "But she needs to get dry."

"Matt, help her upstairs." Andy said before looking at Alex and adding. "Have a hot shower."

"Power is out, but there should be hot water." Alison said as Sarah took Molly from Stan and took her upstairs to get changed.

"I'll get a fire going and make some hot drinks." Alison said as Matt helped Alex up the stairs.

"I'll grab you some dry clothes." Jane added as she followed them up.

As Matt took Alex into the shower room he turned on the water then turned to face her.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Sorry if I got you into trouble."

"For what?" Matt asked confused.

"Lying to your parents."

"What?" He asked lost.

"About me. What I am."

"They're fine." Matt said. "Go warm up, I'll be outside, call if you need anything." He added before stepping out of the bathroom and waiting.

"She okay?" Jane asked as she reached the door holding a pile of clothes, including one of Matt's sweatshirts.

"Yeah." Matt said.

"All her clothes seemed more summer, rather than mild hypothermia suitable so I grabbed one of your sweatshirts for her." Jane said. "I can go to my place to get more clothes if she wants them."

"Thanks." Matt said.

"I'll take them in." Jane said briefly slipping inside the bathroom. When she came out she looked at Matt and suggested.

"Why don't you get changed? I'll stay here."

"It's okay." Matt said. "Plus you look freezing. Go warm up." He said as they heard the water stop.

"You sure?" Jane asked.

"Yes. Once Alex is okay I'll get changed."

"Okay." Jane said walking off.

"You okay in there?" Matt called through the door.

"Yeah." Alex called back.

"Can I get you anything else? There is probably plenty of food."

"No, I'm okay." Alex said opening the door.

"You sure? You look not okay." Matt said facing her.

"I'm okay, just tired. Aren't you freezing?" Alex asked.

"I'm okay, it wasn't my first rain storm." Matt smiled as Alex collapsed.

"Alex." He called as he caught her. "Need some help."

"What happened?" His father asked hurrying in.

"She collapsed. I think it's exhaustion."

"What does she need?" Andy asked. Not getting a response he said louder. "Matt!"

"Yes."

"What does Alex need?"

"Right, um sunlight and food."

"Sunlight? In this weather?" His father asked. "Let's get her to the conservatory." He said lifting her up.

"Alex, it's not just LEO's who have gone nuts. It's prison officers." Vasquez said.

"I thought we shut down the prison service radios?" Alex said.

"We did for the ones without private security."

"Great." Alex muttered.

"Ma'am, I am seeing something really strange." Rose said.

"What? "Alex asked.

"The officers who have had their radios taken off them, aren't reverting. It is like they are still brainwashed, or there is something else going on. May be it is like the radios activated them, but there is some other source that is continuing. But we don't know what we are looking for."

"What sources are still live?" Alex asked. "It has to be obvious to get everywhere."

"Not everywhere." Ruby said pulling up some video feeds. "These are from the City Jail." She explained.

"What are we looking at?" Alex asked.

"Look at these guards. This one and this one lose their radios in the fight." Ruby said pointing to different screens. "This one kinda returns to normal and runs for it. But this one keeps fighting. The only difference is location. The guy inside the prison seems to figure out what is happening. But the guy outside, keep being nuts."

"So it is a weak signal or can't penetrate buildings." Vasquez said. "So what is everywhere outside?"

"GNSS." Alex said.

"Yeah, but surely we'd notice." Vasquez said.

"Working on it." Rose said frantically typing at a computer. After a few minutes she pulled up two plots. "This one is from a year ago, this one from now. There are differences in the noise floor. It looks like an extra modulated signal. It has the same characteristics as Myriad."

"We need to shut it down." Ruby said.

"We can't just shut the network down, it would cause shipping, plane and car crashes. Not to mention shut off grids and-" Vasquez started.

"I get the picture. But if they have added a signal to it, all we need do is remove the signal." Alex said.

"Pretty sure it won't be that easy." Vasquez said, but as Alex continued to stare at her she added. "But we will fix it."

"Ma'am, there has been another shooting. A patrol man shot a family of three. Supergirl is on route." Hawkins called.

"We have to get that signal turned off." Alex said.

"We need help." Diz said carrying Kara into Steve's apartment.

"What happened?" Steve asked.

"She was shot."

"Take her to my room." Steve said as he picked up his medical bag and followed.

"What can I do?" Diz asked.

"I need a sterile environment." Steve said as he started to remove the temporary dressings and cut the younger Kara's shirt. "In the kitchen top cupboard I have boxes of saline bring it in."

"On it." Cullen said.

"You have any morphine in your field kits?" Steve asked Holland.

"Yes."

"Get it and lay it out on the side." Steve ordered before looking at Kara.

"How you doing?" He asked.

"Hurts."

"Bullets tend to." Steve said. "I'm going to look at the wound okay?"

"Sure." Kara said as Steve cut her shirt away before removing the dressing.

"Hey, Kara, the good news is it went straight through and looks pretty clean. Bad news is, it is deep. It is going to hurt when I patch it up."

"Kay." Kara said, although she was barely conscious.

"Diz, I am going to need you to hold her still." Steve instructed.

Nodding Diz applied pressure to try to stop her moving as Cullen returned with the sterile water.

"Small scratch coming." Steve said injecting some morphine into Kara. "The next part will hurt though." He said as he started to clean the wound.

"I need some more light." Steve said, moments later Holland stood behind him shining a flashlight on the wound. Having assessed the damage he sterilised it once more before putting a temporary dressing on it.

"Put gloves on and then apply pressure to this." Steve ordered Holland. Once Holland was holding the dressing Steve started to prepare the sutures.

"How are you Kara?" Steve asked.

"Hurts." Kara slurred, her breathing raspy.

"I know, not much longer to go now." Steve said as he double checked he had everything he needed.

"Okay, Diz hold tight. Holland, hands off the dressing and give me light."

"Any change?" Jane asked as she came and sat next to Matt.

"No." He said taking the cup of coffee off Jane.

"Is this normal?" Jane asked loosing at the unconscious Alex lying on the couch.

"If she over does it. Although I'm not sure what counts as over doing it."

"What she did was pretty awesome." Jane said.

"Yeah it was." Matt agreed.

"I know it is your birthday, and I have to be nice to you, plus I am your best friend and always have your back, but you do know she is way out of your league?"

"Yes." Matt said. "But she hasn't figured that out yet."

"You doing okay?" Jane asked.

"Um, yeah."

"Why don't you get changed? I'll wait with Alex."

"I should stay here-"

"Matt, you're freezing. Get changed. I'll look after her."

"The President has given the go ahead to modify the GNSS signal." Alex said returning to the control room.

"Did you mention we can't actually do that yet?" Vasquez asked.

"I said we weren't ready yet, but we would be soon." Alex explained.

"No pressure then." Vasquez said.

"As soon as the signal is off, I want our people rounding up prisoners. The FBI will be trying to restore order to the streets." Alex said.

"All teams are ready to go. But the fallout will be bad."

"I know, but that is bigger than us." Alex said. "Let's focus on what we can do."

"Ma'am, we can upload a new signal." Rose called over.

"Will it work?" Alex asked.

"Probably."

"Without causing every car and plane to crash?" Alex questioned.

"Possibly."

"Supergirl, it's Alex." The older Alex said over the radio.

"You close to fixing it yet?"

"Yes, but there is a small chance the fix will cause some issues like planes falling from the sky or cars crashing. So I need you to be ready."

"Um, okay." Supergirl said.

Alex then looked to Rose and said. "Do it."

"Okay, it will take a few minutes to reach every satellite."

"What about the other constellations?"

"Those signals are clean." Rose said as she watched her screen. After a moment she said. "First satellite is done, no issues so far."

"Let's hope it stays that way." Alex said watching the screen before radioing her sister and saying.

"So far so good."

"Well it is still insane out here." Supergirl said.

"Hopefully it will get better soon." Alex said as Rose reported.

"Next satellite done. No issues."

"This is going to be a long few minutes." Alex said. "I hate waiting."

"Want the teams to leave now?"

"No, just in case this doesn't work." Alex said.

"Next satellite done." Rose reported. "And the next."

"Let the FBI know the LEOs should be standing down in the next few minutes." Alex said to Vasquez.

"Will do." Vasquez said as Rose reported another signal success. As Vasquez made the call Alex watched the screen getting more and more impatient. Finally Vasquez returned and said.

"All done, but they are reporting issues in most cities."

"Just three more satellites to go." Rose reported.

"Have the FBI have enough people to cover this mess?" Alex asked Vasquez.

"No. They have sent me a list of cities they could use help, but the police aren't the only issue. Those storms have caused major issues, several cities and towns across the country have lost power due to damage." Vasquez said before offering. "Want me to triage?"

"Yes, but make sure you get another information to Supergirl, her cousin and the Flash."

"Of course."

"Alex." Supergirl said over the radio. "Things are changing out here."

"All satellites done." Rose reported.

"Send out our teams." Alex said before reaching for the radio.

"We think the signal is off."

"Looks that way, but there is still plenty of crazy out there." Supergirl said over the radio.

"And National City isn't the only one." Alex said. "Barry and your cousin have joined in the clear up. But this could take a long time."

"Just tell me where you need me." Supergirl said.
