Baratta jennifer- plenty more has been missed

"What's going on?" Alex asked as she and her sister entered Steve's apartment.

"It's Kara." Mel said as MJ sat silently on the couch staring at his hands. "She was shot." Mel went on.

"She's stable. But we should get her to a hospital or the DEO." Steve jumped in. "She's through here."

"Kara?" Alex said entering the bedroom, where her daughter was lying on her side, being held by Diz.

"Mom?"

"How are you feeling?" Alex asked relieved Kara was awake and talking.

"Cold and it hurts like hell." She said as Steve explained from behind Alex.

"We ran out of strong pain killers a couple of hours ago."

"Where do you want me to take her?" The older Kara asked her sister.

"DEO." Alex said.

"I'll come back and get you in a minute." The older Kara said to Diz as she carefully lifted her niece off the bed before flying her to the DEO.

"What happened?" Alex asked Diz.

"I don't know. I wasn't there. I mean I was, but I sent her away, I thought she'd be safer if I held them off."

"Diz, she'll be okay." Alex said, amazed at how calm she was keeping, as her sister returned.

"You ready to go?" Kara asked Diz.

"Yeah."

"What about you?" Kara asked her sister.

"I need to check on MJ."

"I'll be back in a few minutes." Kara said before flying off with Diz. Once they had left Alex returned to the lounge and asked.

"What happened?"

"The cops went nuts." Holland said when MJ remained silent. "Everyone was shooting so we went into a building to get off the street. Only some LEOs saw us and came after us. Diz and Cullen held them off while I went on with Kara, MJ, Martin and Mel. We found a small room, I was trying to secure it when Kara saw the shooter. She got MJ out of the way, but she was hit. We didn't think we could make it to the DEO or a hospital and then Martin pointed out Dr Keller was nearby so we came here." Holland then paused and awaited the punishment from Alex. Instead she turned to MJ and asked.

"MJ, you okay?"

"No, it's my fault."

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"If I had been paying attention-"

"MJ, this isn't on you. We should have spotted what was happening and stopped it earlier." Alex said.

"Kara is all set up at the infirmary." Kara said returning.

"Thank you." Alex said as the mobile networks came back to life.

"It's Alex." Martin started to say, but Kara was already flying off.

As Matt sat with the sleeping teenage Alex, something caught his eye out side. Looking up he saw Kara standing outside the conservatory. Quickly he jumped up and opened the door.

"What happened?" Kara asked looking at her unconscious daughter.

"There was a landslide, well mudslide. She saved us." Matt said. "But then she collapsed. We thought in here, in the sun would help, but she hasn't woken up."

"She probably maxed out her powers." Kara said moving some hair off her daughter's forehead. "How long has she been like this?"

"Umm, a few hours." He said looking at his watch.

"She should wake up soon then." Kara said before asking. "Did anyone else get hurt?"

"No." Matt said. "Well dad got friction burns, which upset Alex, but it was nothing."

"That's good." Kara smiled looking at her daughter again before glancing round the room and seeing the plates of cakes.

"Oh, I told mom Alex needed calories and she went crazy. Have one, or ten, if you want."

"You sure you are okay?" Kara asked Matt.

"Oh, yeah. Fine. Alex was the one who did all the work."

"You don't seem fine." Kara said noticing something was off.

"There was a moment where we thought we lost her in the flood and I keep seeing it."

"Matt, she is okay." Kara said, biting back her own questions. She was going to say something else when Molly suddenly appeared on the edge of the couch.

"Um, hello." Kara said.

"Sorry." Matt said picking up Molly and saying. "You were told not to come in here."

"I wanted to make Alex better so I brought Cuddles." Molly explained holding up a stuffed toy.

"Right now Alex needs to rest." Matt said. "Come on, let's get you back to your dad."

"Can I leave Cuddles?"

"Sure." Matt said taking the toy and putting it by Alex.

"Why don't I take her." Kara said. "I'm sure Alex would like to see you when she wakes up. And I should probably explain being here to your parents."

"Um okay."

"But Matt, when she wakes up, make sure she eats."

"I will." Matt said.

"Oh and Matt, Happy Birthday." Kara smiled before taking Molly.

"Why don't you show me the way?" Kara asked Molly who pointed at the door.

"Hi Stan." Kara greeted as she entered the lounge and saw someone she recognised.

"Kara, hi." He said surprised she was there before noticing who she was carrying. "You have Molly."

"She kinda appeared next to Alex." Kara said.

"I am so sorry." Stan said taking his daughter before looking at the toddler and saying. "We talked about this, you know you can't see Alex right now."

"I wanted to give Alex Cuddles." Molly said.

"That's very kind, but you have to wait until Alex is feeling better." Stan said as Kara looked round the room she noticed the looks she was getting and immediately apologised.

"I'm sorry for just barging in-"

"Where else would you be?" A slightly greying woman said before adding. "I'm Alison, Matt's mother. And that is my husband Andy."

"I'm Sarah." Stan's wife greeted.

"And we've met." Jane said waving from the couch.

"Hi." Kara said.

"So we are ignoring the whole Supergirl thing?" Jane whispered to Stan. "If so you might want to tell your dad to stop gawking." Seeing Kara was looking at them Stan asked Jane.

"Forget about the superhearing?"

"Yeah." Jane said before looking at Kara and saying. "Alex didn't tell us. She doesn't know we know."

"Then how?" Kara asked.

"She looks just like you." Andy said. "Well Supergirl you when you first came out. I have a picture."

"Yeah you should stop talking now." Stan said to his father. He then looked at Kara. "Don't worry, we won't tell anyone." Stan added. "And despite Molly's best attempts we have been pretty good at keeping her powers a secret."

"Thank you." Kara smiled.

"How is Alex?" Alison asked.

"She'll be okay, she just needs to rest and eat. Thank you for looking after her."

"There is no sign of infection, but I have started her on antibiotics just in case." The DEO doctor said to the older Alex. "Her heart rate is still high and her oxygen levels are low, but they are both heading in the right direction. I have run some scans and can confirm that the bullet missed everything important. She was lucky. But she will need careful monitoring over the next few days. I'll let you know if anything changes."

"Thank you." Alex said, trying to keep her torrent of emotions under control. Taking a breath she walked in the room where her daughter was lying unconscious.

"What did the doctor say?" Diz asked from Kara's side, where he gripped her hand.

"She'll be okay." Alex summarised.

"She's still so cold." Diz said causing Alex to take her daughter's other hand.

"She's getting warmer." Alex said. "She should be back to normal soon."

"Hey." Matt smiled when Alex opened her eyes.

"Matt? What happened? Where am I?" She asked trying to sit up.

"In the conservatory. You kinda collapsed and I thought the sun would help. I have food. Mom made cookies and muffins and cakes. Which you should eat." He said passing her plate.

"I'm not hungry."

"Your mum made it sound like it wasn't negotiable." Matt pointed out.

"Mom is here?"

"Yeah, I may have freaked out and called Martin."

"Is she okay?"

"Yes. I mean she was, but she is out with my family so no guarantees." He added as the door opened and Kara walked in.

"How are you feeling?" Kara asked as she hugged her daughter.

"I'm sorry." Alex whispered to her mother.

"For what?"

"Using my powers-"

"You saved everyone."

"But they know."

"It's fine." Kara said.

"What if they hate me?"

"Mum loves you." Matt said. "Hence the fact this room has more cakes than a bakery. You saved us, why wouldn't they like you?"

"Your dad got hurt because I wasn't strong enough."

"He got scratched, but you got hurt." Matt jumped in before Kara could say anything. "Alex, you did all you could, which is a lot more than any of us could do."

"I also lied to them."

"About what?" Kara asked.

"Being an alien."

"Oh they already knew." Kara said.

"I didn't say anything." Matt immediately jumped in.

"I know." Kara smiled. "They figured it out yesterday."

"You look just like Supergirl from twenty odd years ago." Jane said from the door. "Pretty sure if you are going to make a habit of this that you need a disguise. A better disguise than glasses." She added before looking at Kara and saying. "No offence." She then looked back at Alex and asked. "How are you feeling?"

"Okay I guess."

"Well I'll repeat this better when you are fully okay, but thank you." Jane said.

"Sure."

"Food is almost ready. Do you want to eat with us, or would you prefer in here?" Jane asked.

"In-" Alex started to say only for Kara to jump in.

"With everyone."

"Sure." Jane said. "See you in a few minutes." Once she had left Kara saw the look she was getting from her daughter.

"If I left it to you you'd hide in here for the next few days. But you have no reason to avoid everyone."

"Don't I? I lied about who I was."

"We lied about Molly." Matt reminded her. "Although I'd get why you'd want to avoid dad. I mean we find his Supergirl crush weird and for you it is going to be … I don't actually have words."

"Come on." Kara said. "Let's go eat." She said pulling her daughter to her feet and leading her to the lounge.

"Alex, you're up." Alison said hugging Alex. As she did so Kara turned to Matt and whispered.

"Was I meant to hug you when you visited?"

"Nope." Matt said.

"You sure, because I can if you-"

"Fine with no hugs." Matt said as his mother finally released Alex.

"How are you feeing?" Alison asked Alex.

"I'm okay. Thanks for the food."

"Of course." Alison said. "But are you sure you should be up?"

"You should sit down." Kara said. "You are still weak."

Nodding Matt led Alex to the dining table where the pair sat before a slightly awkward silence descend until Jane finally asked.

"So do you collapse every time you use your powers?" Jane asked.

"No. Just when I use then a lot." Alex said.

"So you could have used them during the underwater challenge?"

"Well, not really. That would be cheating." Matt pointed out.

"But we could have won." Jane said.

"Technically Alex would have won." Stan pointed out.

"The Elite wouldn't have known that." Jane argued.
