Baratta jennifer - She does, and people will try to make sure she gets one.
"Everything okay?" Eliza asked as she joined Steve in the break room.
"Yes."
"Then why are you in here with a box of cookies."
"They are for Kara, but she is having a heart to heart with Alex and Lena. I didn't want to interrupt." Steve said. "But I am sure you'd be welcome."
"If Kara is talking I don't want to go in and be the excuse she uses to stop talking." Eliza said. "Sometimes it is best to watch from afar."
"I can't start to imagine how hard it is having Kara and Alex as daughters. That sounded bad, I mean obviously they are great women, but they cause you stress."
"Yes they do." Eliza said. "But standing up for others, following their beliefs is part of who they are."
"So I have noticed." Steve smiled.

"How come you are up?" Matt asked joining Alex on the porch.
"Sorry, did I wake you?"
"No." Matt said wrapping an arm round her. "So why are you up?"
"Not tired."
"You look tired." Matt said.
"Long day."
"All the more reason to sleep."
"I can't. I keep seeing it."
"What happened to your mom?"
"Yes."
"Anything I can do?"
"No, I'll be okay. You should sleep."
"And get a lecture from Jane about being a terrible human for letting you stew by yourself?" Matt asked. "If you don't want to sleep, why don't we go fix some of the robots? Might take your mind off everything. Or what about watching the Perseid meteor shower? There is a great spot at the edge of the farm. We can take a picnic and watch from there."
"You really don't have to stay up with me."
"Perhaps I want to." Matt said before he stood. "Stay here, I'll get supplies."

"I'm sorry, I came as soon as I got your message." Frax said as he appeared in the DEO in front of the older Alex the next morning.
"Frax? Thank you, but the situation is contained."
"That's good." Frax said. "Are Alex and Kara okay?"
"Alex is fine. Kara was hurt but she'll be okay."
"Is Kara here?"
"Yes."
"Can I see her?"
"Of course, I'll take you to her." Alex said leading him down the corridor. As they walked she explained. "Alex isn't here right now, she's in Arizona with Matt." On seeing his confusion she added. "She'll be back tomorrow, but she is safe."
"That is good." Frax said as they came to the isolab where they saw Steve hugging Kara.
"They seem close." Frax commented.
"They are." Alex said before noticing a change in Frax's demeanour. "Everything okay?"
"She looks busy, I'll return later." He said walking off.
"Um, okay." Alex said confused.

"Lena?" Alex asked confused as she walked into her office and saw the Luthor. "You okay?"
"Yes, I wanted to get some work done and you weren't using your office, so I took it over."
"Have you got any sleep yet?" Alex asked.
"No."
"Is this a Lex thing?"
"Yes. And I hate myself for letting him have power over me."
"You can have this office if it helps." Alex said. "And just so you know everyone, including Superman is looking for Lex. We will get him."
"Thank you, but it is not all bad. I am also making progress."
"With Lex?"
"No. The babies."
"You have?"
"Yes. Technically it was your idea."
"I don't remember having any ideas." Alex said.
"When Kara was dying you talked about a bone marrow transplant, which led to the nanites." Lena said.
"And?"
"The babies had been engineered to create the bone marrow needed by Indomitable. That was at the expense of everything else, that is why their cells are unstable." Lena said.
"Okay, how does that help?"
"Two questions. One, why? I mean maybe as the first prototype, but after that wouldn't it make more sense to have stable donors. Two, why not use nanites?"
"And you have an answer?"
"Yes. Well maybe." Lena said looking at Alex. "Bone marrow isn't static. It changes. The bone marrow Indomitable needed was only viable from babies less that six months. After that it's structure was such it had less effect on him. So they didn't need the babies after six months. When they tried altering the bone marrow to make it viable for longer, the babies actually died sooner."
"Can we use this to save the other babies?"
"I don't know, maybe, but maybe not. I mean if the babies were engineered to only last six months there is nothing we can do. But I'll do what I can."
"Okay, well that explains one thing, but what about your point about nanites?" Alex asked.
"That I am still not sure about. I have one theory, but it may be wrong." Lena said.
"It was Kara's reaction that gave me the idea. Her body fought them, even though they were tailored for her. Maybe Indomitable did the same. But there is a bigger problem." Lena said.
"What?"
"What if Thumper's attack was not about killing Supergirl?"
"Looked like it was."
"What if it was to induce the same instability Indomitable had, so we'd find the cure."
"Only that instability only occurred because of the antidote we gave her." Alex said.
"An antidote we had used on her before." Lena reminded her friend. "One they knew we had." Lena said before leaning back. "Maybe I am being overly paranoid because of Lex, but something feels off."
"Let's say you are right, they would need access to what we did. And that is all on computers at the DEO. Most of them standalone." Alex said.
"Yes, but we left them unattended."
"Okay, first things first, you need coffee, food and sleep. So you can come back home with me and get some rest. I will have Vasquez and Ruby look at all the security cameras of the lab and see if anyone accessed it." Alex said.

As Steve and Kara sat at the diner he passed her his phone.
"I thought all phones were banned?" Kara said.
"They are. But I know if you don't talk to Alex you will be miserable, which would defeat the point of today. So you call Alex and put your mind at rest, I'll get the coffees." He said.
"Thank you." Kara said before dialling her daughter.
"Steve? Is mom okay?" Alex answered.
"It's me." Kara said.
"Mom? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Kara said, although suddenly hearing her daughter made her want to cry.
"Where's Steve, I thought he was looking after you?" Alex asked.
"He is, he is just getting the coffees." Kara said. "He told me what you said, but -"
"Mom, you need a break. Please just let Steve look after you. After I get back tomorrow we'll hang out and do whatever you want, but today, just focus on you."
"You sure?"
"Yes."
"Okay." Kara said.
"Is Alex okay?" Steve asked when he came back.
"Yes."
"Then why are you crying?"
"I don't know. Hearing her voice just made me realise how close I was to loosing everything. And I was scared but happy."
"So you're okay?"
"Yes." Kara smiled.
"And no way am I missing Disney or the pudding club."

"How's your mom?" Matt asked as he entered the spare room where Alex was sitting on the bed that evening.
"Sounds like she is okay. She had fun today."
"Yet you look really miserable." Matt said sitting next to her.
"She does so much for everyone, especially me, and she never gets the thanks she deserves, especially from me."
"I'm pretty sure your mom doesn't see it that way." Matt said.
"She should." Alex said.
"Okay, well you are going back tomorrow right?"
"Yes."
"And you are going to do something together?"
"Yes."
"Then plan something special."
"Like what?"
"Well your mom likes food."
"Steve covered that off today."
"She likes cute stuff."
"Steve also covered that today."
"With what?"
"Disney."
"What about a petting zoo?"
"She'd try to adopt everything in it."
"Well I'm out of ideas. Good luck." Matt smiled before looking at Alex and asked. "How are you really doing?"
"I don't know. I hate seeing mom like that and not being able to do anything."
"So you are thinking of going into the family business?"
"Don't see how. I'm useless."
"You saved half my family the other day." Matt argued.
"And almost drowned."
"Your issue is you spend so much time worrying about others, you don't worry about you. Which I guess makes sense."
"Why?"
"It's exactly what your mom does." Matt said before seeing Alex yawn. "Why don't you get some sleep?"
"It's our last night together."
"I know, but we were up all of last night." Matt reminded her.
"Will you stay with me tonight?" Alex asked. "I don't want to be alone."
"Of course." Matt smiled. "But if your mom rocks up, you have to defend me."
