Ch 4 Confronting Ones Past

As Kopa and Jasiri were walking back to Pride Rock Jasiri was going on and on about Kijana's new pups. "They were so cute weren't they Kopa?" Jasiri asked, with a smile as she let out a content sigh.

"Yeah," Kopa agreed with a nod. "They were pretty darn cute."

"Kind of makes you think doesn't it?" Jasiri asked, her voice coming out soft

"About what?" Kopa asked, although he was pretty sure he knew what Jasiri was about to say.

"About having cubs," Jasiri said, looking at Kopa "I mean didn't seeing Mpenzi bring new life into the world make you think about how nice it would be to bring our own little boy or girl into the world?"

"No," Kopa said, trying not to sound rough. "It didn't make me think that."

"So you haven't changed your mind about not having cubs?" Jasiri asked, sounding disappointed.

"No Jasiri I haven't changed my mind," Kopa said flatly. "And we're not having this discussion again. 'Cause we both know that'll only lead to an argument. And I'm way to tired to have another fight with you. Not to mention my side hurts. So we're dropping the topic. Alright?"

"Alright Kopa," Jasiri said, not wanting to agitated Kopa anymore than he already was. "We won't talk about it anymore tonight." "But tomorrow we'll talk about more," she thought to herself. "But I've gotta be careful not to over do it. I know how hard Kopa can dig his heels in if he feel backed into a corner."

"Thank you," Kopa said with a smile. By now the couple had reached Pride Rock. "I'm going to bed," Kopa informed his girlfriend. "You coming?"

"Yeah," Jasiri said. "I'll be there in a sec." With that Kopa gave Jasiri a smile and walked into the cave. "This isn't over Kopa," Jasiri thought. "I'll make you see just how wrong you are. But I have to be careful about how I do it. I'll wait a little bit before I bring it up again. I thought I could do it tomorrow but that wouldn't be such a good idea. I'll have to wait until Kopa's feeling better. But bringing up cubs should be easy enough with Kovu and Safara expecting a cub." With that Jasiri walked into the cave to get some much needed rest.

The next day Jasiri was up early. She was anxious to spend some time with Kopa. But to her surprise when she looked over Kopa wasn't there. "He just left," a voice said. Jasiri looked up and saw Kovu standing there with a smile. "He went with your mother to talk about some things," the golden brown lion explained.

"Oh," Jasiri said as she stood and stretched. "Well I'm glad he and my mother are trying to work things out."

"Yeah me too," Kovu said with a nod. "I know its really been bugging him how tense things have been between Cala and him." Jasiri nodded in agreement and was about to say more but just then Safara approached the pair.

"Hey guys," the tan coated lioness said with a smile. "Have you seen Kiara or Vitani? We were supposed to hang out today."

"No I haven't," Jasiri said, shaking her head.

"They're heading to see Rafiki," Zira said, walking towards the group. "Simba took Nuka and Chafu out again today. I was going to take Kiara and Vitani out but Vitani hasn't been feeling well so Kiara offered to go with her to see Rafiki."

"I hope she's alright," Jasiri said with concern.

"I'm sure she'll be just fine," Zira said with a reassuring smile. "I would have gone with them but Vitani insisted that I stay here. I agreed because I didn't want to upset her more. And this gives me time to spend with Asha. We were going to sunbathe if you would care to join us."

"Sure I'm game," Safara said, looking at Jasiri, who nodded.

"Well you ladies have fun with that," Kovu said. "I'm going to visit Kijana and see his new pups."

"I wanna see them too," Safara said. Then she turned towards Jasiri and Zira. "Sorry. Rain check alight?"

"We understand," Zira said with a smile. "And please tell Kijana and Mpenzi Simba and I send our congratulations."

"We will," Kovu said. With that the group dispersed, heading for their destinations.

A little while later Kovu and Safara were heading back to Pride Rock. "Changa and Mwali were so cute," Safara cooed with a giggle. "I can't wait until our cub gets here. I can't wait to look into his or hers cute little face."

"Me either," Kovu said with a smile. "And seeing Kijana and Mpenzi so happy makes this day even better."

"I couldn't agree more," Safara said. Just then the couple heard whispered voices. Exchanging confused looks the pair decided to investigate. Being careful not to make to much noise Kovu and Safara peaked through the bushes. To their surprise they saw three jackals from Dogo's Pride hiding.

"Are ya sure they're comin' Uovu?" one of the jackals asked.

"Will ya relax Endela?" Uovu hissed. "Cala said she'd have Kopa here which she will. And we just got here so shut your mouth will ya?" When Kovu and Safara heard these words they exchanged wide eyed looks. But before they could take any action they saw Cala and Kopa heading towards them.

"Cala I don't mean to sound grouchy," Kopa was saying. "But its getting pretty late. I think we should head back."

"Just a few more minutes," Cala said. "But if you're getting tried I suppose we could turn back." As she was speaking Cala looked directly into the bushes and nodded, signaling the jackals to emerge.

"Cala what's..." Kopa began. But just then he saw the jackals and his blue eyes went wide and he gasped.

"Well well well hello again Kopa," Dogo cackled as he and his Pack surrounded Kopa. "We meet again. Only this time you're all alone."

"Go get help," Kovu hissed to Safara.

"I'm not leaving you," Safara hissed back. "You're going to need my help."

"Go," Kovu hissed. "Now. You're pregnant and I won't have you risk our unborn cub or yourself. Now go!" Safara opened her mouth to protest but she quickly realized that would be pointless. So the tan coated lioness reluctantly headed back to Pride Rock to get Kovu and Kopa some much needed help. This left Kovu alone. The golden brown lion watched the scene unfold, waiting for a chance to spring into action. Kovu listened to what was happening.

"I'm not alone," Kopa growled, glaring at Dogo. "Or are you blind? Cala's here with me."

"Oh but I'm not," Cala said, her voice low and dark as she glared at Kopa.

"Huh?" Kopa said, giving Cala a confused look. "Cala I don't understand. What are you..." But he was interrupted by Cala's cruel and cold voice.

"Oh you can't really be that stupid can you Kopa?" Cala said with a cackle. "I've hated you for a while now. All the things you've done to hurt my Jasiri. Both physically and mentally. She's so blinded by love that she can't see the truth."

"And what truth is that Cala?" Kopa demanded, glaring at the older lioness.

"That you're a monster," Cala said bluntly. "Just like your parents. And just like them you're going to meet a brutal end." With that Cala stepped aside. "Finish him," she said with a growl. "And make sure its as painful as possible."

"With pleasure," Dogo said with a cackle. With that Dogo and his Pack surrounded Kopa, fully prepared to kill him.
