Ch 17 New Problems Arise
The cubs were having a blast playing and exploring the Pride Lands. After a few minutes they came across a female cub with a beige coat and brown eyes came bounding up to Kinte. "Hey ya Kinte!" the cub cried out, tackling Kinte to the ground.
"Geeze Mjuku not so rough," Kinte said with a giggle as he gently pushed Mjuku off of him. Just then a smaller cub with a dark tan coat and blue eyes came running.
"Mjuku!" the cub cried out, the annoyance clear in his voice. "Why'd you ditch me?'
"Shut up Karibu I didn't ditch you," Mjuku said, rolling her eyes at her two month old brother Just then Mtunga came onto the scene followed by Kike.
"Mom Mjuku told me to shut up!" Karibu cried out, running over to Kike. "And she tried to ditch me!"
"I did not!" Mjuku snapped. "And quit being such a snitch Karibu!"
"Children behave yourselves," Kike scolded. "Or you'll both go back home. Am I clear?"
"Yes Mom," the siblings said together.
"Anyways," Kinte said. "I wanna introduce you to my cousin: Mflame. Its her first time out of the cave."
"Its my brother's first time out too," Mjuku said. "But he's so annoying." Karibu stuck his tongue out at his five month old sister and giggled.
"Hey ya wanna play Mflame?" Karibu asked.
"Can I Grandma?" Mflame asked, looking at Zira.
"Well," Zira said, looking up at Mtunga, who was giving Mflame a look. "I suppose it'll be alright. But don't go to far."
"Hey I wanna play to!" Mtu cried out.
"Can we play?" Kiume asked, looking from Mflame to his parents.
"Sure you can play," Mflame said, looking at Karibu, who nodded.
"Have fun darlings," Maweha said, giving her sons nuzzles. "But please don't go to far."
"We won't Mom!" the twins said as they ran off with Mflame and Karibu to play. By now Mwali and Changa had gotten bored and had gone to play with Kinte and Mjuku, leaving the adults alone.
"So Mtunga where's your partner in crime Shida?" Moto asked.
"She's spending the day with her children," Mtunga said. "Binti and Mwala rarely get any free time with the cubs so they're taking the time now while Kike has Mjuku and Karibu and Binti's daughter, Dhana is with her father." Binti had given birth a little after Kiara and her daughter had a black coat like her father and brown eyes like her mother. "And what did that remark mean anyways Moto?" Mtunga glared at the male jackal when she said this part.
"It didn't mean anything jeeze," Moto said, glaring back at Mtunga. "Stop being so damn sensitive Mtunga! Damn!" Letting out a growl Moto got up and walked angrily away from Mtunga.
"What's his problem?" Mtunga wondered.
"Moto's always been moody," Maweha said, rolling her black eyes. "I'll talk to him." With that Maweha walked over to her mate and whispered, "You've really gotta chill out Moto. You're going to blow our cover."
"I can't help in Maweha," Moto hissed back. "I'm not good a faking nice. You know that."
"Well you've gotta try," Maweha whispered. "Otherwise..." But she was stopped by one of the cubs letting out a high pitched screech. "That was Mtu!" Maweha cried out as she and Moto raced over to their son. Once they got to their son to their shock they saw two other jackal pups there. "Mtu!" Moto cried out, running over to his son. "Are you alright son?"
"I'm fine Dad," Mtu said with a smile. "They scared me that's all." Mtu pointed to the other pups when he said this part.
"We're sorry," one of the pups said, lowering her blue eyes in shame.
"We didn't mean to scare you," the other pup said. "We just wanted to see if you and your friends wanted to play."
"Its alright," Mtu said with a smile. "You guys can play with us. By the way I'm Mtu and this is my brother Kiume and our friends Mflame and Karibu.
"I'm Mirithi," the first pup said. "And this is my sister Urithi."
"Nice to meet you all," Mflame said with a smile. By now Moto and Maweha had gone back to the other, satisfied that their children were alright. They sat beside Zira and chatted for a bit when they saw Kopa walking towards them.
"Hey guys," Kopa said with a smile.
"Hello Kopa," Zira sad, her voice monotoned. "Haven't seen you around Pride Rock lately."
"Yeah well the last time I visited Jasiri made it pretty clear that she didn't want me around until the cub was born," Kopa said with a grunt.
"Yes well can't really say I blame her," Zira said. "After all you did abandon her when she needed you the most."
"Look Zira with all due respect this isn't really any of your business," Kopa snapped, glaring at the tan coated Queen. "So I'd appreciate it if..." Just then Kopa's blue eyes went wide. "Who are the new pups?" the creamy coated lion asked, nodding towards Mirithi and Urithi, who were playing with the other cubs.
"They said their names were Mirithi and Urithi," Moto said. "I'm pretty sure they're twins."
"Shit not good," Kopa muttered.
"Is something wrong Kopa?" Mtunga asked.
"Y...err no everything is fine," Kopa stammered, thinking better of saying anything in front of Mtunga. "I gotta go. See you all later." With that Kopa got up and walked away from the group. Moto knew something was up and the male jackal followed Kopa.
"Alright Kopa what's going on?" Moto asked, making sure he kept his voice low.
"Those new pups are the children of Dogo," Kopa informed his friend, causing his friend to gasp in shock.
"Are you sure about this Kop'?" Moto asked.
"Very sure," Kopa said with a nod. "I live right by the Outland border remember? I overheard some of the animals that live in the Outlands talking about Dogo and Mbaya training their twin girls to follow in their paw prints and how they named them Mirithi and Urithi, which literally mean heir to inherit."
"As you said before," Moto said. "Shit this isn't good. I wonder what the bastard is up to?"
"We can't assume anything," Kopa said. "It may be just a coincidence that they're here now."
"Pshh yeah right," Moto said, rolling his black eyes. "I don't believe that Kopa. The children of Dogo just happen to show up on the exact same day that Nuka and Kiara's daughter goes out of the cave for the first time. No they're up to something." Just then Maweha approached the group.
"What are you boys whispering about?' the female jackal asked.
"I'll tell you later," Moto said, darting his eyes to Mtunga, who was walking towards the group with Kike and Zira right behind her.
"I should really get Mflame and Kinte back," Zira was saying. "It is getting dark."
"Yes and Mwala is expecting us back before dark," Kike chimed in.
"Yeah we should probably head back too," Moto said with a grunt. "Knowing Kijana he'll have a search party looking for us if we're not back before dark."
"I'll walk back with you Kike," Mtunga offered.
"Thank Mom," Kike said with a smile. "Mjuku! Karibu! Its time to head home."
"Ah man," the siblings groaned as they walked towards their mother.
"We'd better get back too," Urithi said. "Our parents worry if we're out past dark."
"I could walk with you," Kopa offered.
"No thanks," Mirithi said quickly. "We don't live that far." Without another word the twins headed back to their home.
"Come children," Zira said to Mflame and Kinte. "We should head back."
"Want some company?" Kopa asked. "I'm anxious to see Jasiri and check on her and the cub."
"Yeah can he Grandma?" Mflame asked. "Please?"
"Yeah we hardly get to spend any time with him," Kinte said.
"Of course he can come," Zira said with a smile. The cubs let out cheers of joy as the group headed back to Pride Rock.
TLKTLKTLK
Once the group was back they saw Kovu running down the side. When he saw Kopa his green eyes went wide with surprise. "Oh good Kopa I'm glad you're here," the golden brown lion said. "I was just coming to get you."
"What's wrong Kovu?" Kopa asked, alarmed by his brother's tone.
"Its Jasiri," Kovu said. "She's in labor and there's a good chance the cub might not make it."
