Ch20
Netto rubbed his head as he looked at the reports on his computer. "Man these Gospel attacks are getting worse." The attack on Creamland left a lot of damage and since then there had been other high profile attacks. It seemed each day there was another attack somewhere either in real life or on the internet in Net City.
"Netto-kun Meijin-san sent us a message," Rockman said as he showed him an email.
"Blues will be assisting when he can," he read. He sighed as he sat back in his chair. "Well good for him, personally I don't care for him but I'll be civil if he is."
Slur nodded. "It is good to set boundaries with others, especially with people like him."
The sound of his PET's alarm caught him off guard. "What the hell?" he picked up the PET and read the announcement. "All citizens stay indoors a massive cyber attack is underway. All navis are advised to avoid Net City."
He nearly stood up as he saw the image of what looked like a big canine virus made of bug frags attacking and consuming the city. "Oh my god what the hell did Gospel make?" The large virus seemed to be on the warpath biting and destroying various buildings
The monster was huge and destroyed everything in its path as it went on a rampage throughout Net City and absorbed the rubble into itself. "Oh gosh we have to stop that thing," he said.
"Should we stop them?" Slur asked.
He nodded. "You know I think we should try to find the source it. That thing must be giving off some kind of signature, I'll track it and then we can go." Pride gave me a bit of a digital trail, something this big has to be controlled from somewhere.
His navis nodded. "Good idea," Rockman said. "Should we still Blues?"
"Yeah go ahead. I'll be trying to pinpoint where its being controlled from," he said as he opened the files Pride gave him and began to run a tracing program.
"Alright. We'll go ahead. Let us know if you need anything," Slur said.
"I will. Be safe both of you," he said as he began typing away. Come on the faster we find the origins the faster we can defeat it.
His navis nodded before heading out of his computer to Net City. Already lets see who is controlling you. Typing on the keyboard he ran various programs to trace the origin of the creature. It looks like its made out of bug frags but whoever made it didn't make it well. The thing is falling apart.
He watched his navis battle the beast along with Blues and Meijin's navi Punk. Together they managed to get the virus' attention and prevent it from completely destroying the city.
"Netto-kun the creature is retreating," Slur said.
"Good let it," he said as he began to focus on the virus' signals. "I'm going to track it."
"Got it," Slur said.
Sweat formed on his brow as he began to trace the signal from the virus. On screen Slur's spears and chords held back the virus while Blues, Rockman and punk. Come on guys just hold it off a little longer. He assisted his navis with battle chips as the large virus recoiled and let out a roar.
Come on so close. He typed furiously on his keyboard as he watched the virus retreat. Then he got a match. It was small reception signal but he was hooked. His eyes widened as he quickly traced it and found it was not far from his hometown. "GOT IT!" He jumped out of his chair as he copied the coordinates.
"Guys I found its layer," he said sending the coordinates to Enzan and Meijin-san.
"Be careful Netto-kun," Meijin said. "We'll support you as soon as we can."
Enzan appeared on the screen next to his navi. "I'll have Blues follow the trail."
"Sounds good. Alright come on jack out both of you," he said grabbing his PETS and. It ends here.
He quickly ran as fast as he could through the down town part of Den Tech City. It was an old part long abandoned by most people except for the poorest and seediest members of society. "I traced the signal of that creature its operating base shouldn't be too far."
He looked up at the large abandoned building and took a deep breath. "Netto-kun be careful," Rockman warned. "We don't know what they enemy has up their sleeve."
"I know," he said as they approached a large abandoned apartment building with the lights on the top floor. "Here it is."
"Netto-kun do you have the dimensional chip?" Slur.
"I do," he said patting his pocket.
"Use it if things get out of hand," Slur said softly. "I'll assist you with all that I can."
"Thank you. Come on lets go," he said as he opened the rusty door.
The door opened with a loud creak, the light blinked ominously inside the ruins of a shoddy lobby. "Alright come on," he said taking a deep breath he activated the flash light on his PET as he climbed up the stairs the steps cracking with each step until he arrived at a door with a bright light behind it.
"Alright," he said. Taking a deep breath he pushed it open and saw a corridor full of large monitors.
"What the hell is this place?" He muttered blinking his eyes as he walked through the corridor of large computers.
His heart raced as he saw the door at the end of the corridor. Racing through to it he kicked the door down when he got to it. He was greeted by the sound of many machines operating.
"What is this place?" he muttered as he walked in and was greeted by the sight of that weird robot.
"Welcome to the lair of Gospel Hikari Netto," the voice said sounding like it was a mixture of a synthesizer and a recording. "Alas you are too late. That Gospel Virus you battled was just a prototype soon the real thing will come and finish you off."
He folded his arms. "Why don't you show your real self. I know this is just a fake robot."
To his surprise the robot creaked and moved to the side revealing a kid around his age. His eyes widened as he recognized him. "Y-You," he said. This was the kid he saw occasionally in various places.
The kid nodded. "We finally meet face to face. I am the leader of Gospel Obihiro Shun."
"You're the leader of Gospel?" He was surprised that it was a kid his age.
Shun laughed a mirthless laugh. "Surprised huh? Many would not believe the leader of this organization is me a kid." Shun's gaze turned cold. "Don't worry though this world will end and pay for what it did to me."
"What do you mean by that?" He yelled. "Many people will die if you keep this up."
"SO WHAT? THIS WORLD NEVER CARED FOR ME!" Shun yelled his body shaking his burning gaze turning to him "I'll make them all pay." The boy then began to type on his keyboard. "Output is at over 200%, soon the ultimate navi I made will arise and help destroy this world."
"Your're crazy," he said grabbing his PETS. "Slur you and Rockman stop him now. Plug in!"
"Rockman look out!" Slur said as she slashed another copy navi. They were everywhere, the same black navi with a robe around his neck. They didn't seem to have much intelligence to them or free will they only seemed bent on destruction.
Rockman dodged a strike before deleting the copy with a fire sword. "I'm fine," he said as he stabbed another navi in the chest deleting it.
The three other navis nodded and quickly moved out of the way just as she snapped her fingers. Various spears pierced the navis from the ground destroying them. The ground rumbled as a large shape emerged from the ground.
"You again," she muttered as the gospel virus emerged from the ground and roared. This miserable creature just won't die.
A flash of red passed by her as a familiar blue navi attacked the virus. "Blues!" Rockman yelled as the red navi slashed the virus. On the other end the navi Punk rolled around the virus attacking it from the dies.
"Netto-kun lets take this thing out!" Enzan said.
Her operator appeared next to her and Rockman. "Got it. Recovery slot in."
"Thank you," she said as she felt some of her energy get restored.
"Alright lets take this out with a program advance," Netto said. "Sword double slot in!"
A sword appeared on her arm along with Rockman's arm. In the distance Blues was preparing a similar attack. "Wide sword double slot in!"
Here we go. Taking a deep breath she looked at the virus in front of her. You'll go down here.
"Long sword double slot in!" Netto said.
The familiar sensation of the program advance coursed through her body. Alright lets do this. Raising her arms in the sky she saw a similar column above Rockman and Blues.
"Program Advance!" they all yelled as they brought their attacks down on the Gospel Virus.
There was a large blinding flash of light. Followed by a howl as the ground beneath them quaked. When the light dissipated she saw the Gospel Virus break down and collapse on itself.
"Good job guys!" Netto said.
She nodded as she helped Rockman up. It was then that she felt a powerful presence approach them. "Something is coming!"
The figure raced through the sky, at first she thought it was another clone but on closer inspection the fury in its eyes was very real.
"Earth Breaker!" the navi roared as he brought his hand down on the remnants of the virus
There was a flash of light as the Gospel Virus moaned in pain before it fell down upon itself.
"Is it gone?" Rockman asked.
She nodded facing the gaze of the navi in front of them. So this is the ultimate navi? She was amused as she stared at him. The navi's gaze was angry and full of fury as their gazes met.
This is the best humanity has made? Interesting it would be a great idea to study him in the future. She could probably beat him but she had to be more cautious given the current circumstances. There was something in those eyes, a fiery determination to be the strongest and defeat and kill those who oppose him. A wild dog is ferocious, I could probably take him here and now but it would probably create a stronger enemy down the road.
It may have been the result of her bonding with Netto and Rockman or her near deletion experience at the hands of Pharaohman but something inside of her was telling her that this opponent is not someone she wanted to take lightly.
"Humans are pitiful," The navi murmured. "To think a child dares to copy me?"
"With whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with?" She asked politely gripping her light sword in her hand.
The navi smirked at her. "I am Forte. I will make humans know their place."
She laughed. "I'm afraid that is the task of someone else." Their gazes met, Forte eyes were angry and prideful. Normally such a gaze would warrant her to delete him out of insolence but she found the navi curious. After all this was supposedly the ultimate navi that didn't need an operator. Such a specimen didn't need to be deleted right away.
To her surprise Forte turned merely turned around. "Stay out of my way." The black navi then leapt off into the cyberworld
What a curious navi. Next time I'll see what he can do.
