Even though Halt would never admit it, he misses his red haired friend on many occasions, he likes to think of the days when they were young and used to explore Araluen together. I mean don't get him wrong, he would never trade the family he has now for anything but when he lies in bed and closes his eyes, on days like today, he misses Crowley.

It had been a hard week, Will and Halt had returned from Skandia only a couple months ago, since then, all the days blurred into one , having Will train but not over work himself, having to stay up because of a nightmare, cooking meals for the two of them and worst of all Halt hadn't really seen anyone else since they got back. Sure they had a reunion dinner and stuff but Halt and Will had set off the next morning to get Will back home as soon as possible. There was nothing like the comfort of your own bed. Halt sat on a warm spring day on the veranda outside his cabin, nursing a mug of hot coffee. His thoughts wondered as the repetitive wack from Wills arrows hitting the targets lulled him into a sense of drowsiness. The warm sun beat on his face and he found himself thinking of the reunion back at castle Araluen his heart warmed at the thought of seeing his best friend after a year not knowing if he was ever going to return. Uh oh, Halt thought, I cannot be missing Crowley. Missing Crowley would mean I'm getting sentimental, sentimental is never a good thing. He closed his eyes, only for a moment, he thought. But on a day like today it was impossible to doze just for a moment.

Halt dreamt of him and Crowley, riding side by side atop their horses towards a tavern at the end if the road. He said something, Crowley teased him, barely being able to contain his laughter. Suddenly the door to the tavern opened revealing, Crowley? Halt looked to the side of him to see that his friend had vanished and at the tavern door he stood with open arms, as Halt walked dismounted and walked towards him, the door slammed and the outdoors morphed around him. He was back in Skandia but in the slave yard, he grimaced and scowled at the leaders as he saw a tall muscular man punish a slave for not doing his job. His heart ached for the slave being punished and he tried to help them, shout out and run towards the pair but he was rooted to the spot unable to move. He then realised with a sick desperation that the slave was Crowley, the once mischievous glint in his eye dulled and his bright red hair cut back, but when he called out to him, the voice was that of his apprentice. "Halt wake up, wake up!" Okay, he thought, maybe I do miss Crowley.

The red-headed commandment paced outside Castle Araluen, multiple reports in his hands. Crowley was tired and with the neverending paperwork infiltrating every aspect of his life, he needed to get out of his stuffy office, hence, the walking around the luscious hills that surrounded the royal palace. Anyone could see that he was not concentrated on where he was walking, only his fellow rangers' reports in front of him. He scanned them for anything important. Gilan, nothing new, Bartell, just some bandits, Halt, Crowley smiled at the thought of his friend. He had missed him when he was banished and could still recall many sleepless nights hoping for his safe return, his smile turned to confusion as he saw the note scrawled on Halt's report. It read: If only I could tell you in person. He stopped in his tracks, what on earth did Halt mean? Crowley liked to think of Halt as one of his best friends, so not knowing what the ranger meant, puzzled him.

Suddenly a force slammed into him sending him and the other person rolling down one of the many hills. He lay breathless at the bottom then sat up and looked around him. It was really a beautiful sight, all the different flowers scattered around him and the clouds wandered across the sky, he put his hands behind his head and lay looking up at the sky, warmth bathing his face. Then he felt the presence of someone sitting down next to him. "Halt?" Crowley asked surprised. He tackled his friend in a hug. Halt was never a hugger, but unfortunately for him, Crowley was.

"Woah Nelly," Halt said and awkwardly patted his friend on the shoulder, but Crowley wouldn't have traded it for anything.

"That's what you meant!" Crowley said

"Age is making you slower,"

"We're the same age..." Crowley raised an eyebrow in Halt's direction. "But seriously, what's the reason for the visit, did you miss me?" he teased then stopped when he saw the look of Halt's face. He shuffled to sit opposite his friend. "Halt?"

"I don't know,"

"C'mon Halt, as nice as it is to see you, something must've happened."

"I guess I just realised I've been taking everything for granted and then when Will got taken, I couldn't lose him. Then I had the horrible realisation that I care." he said the last part with mock surprise which brought a smile to Crowley's face.

"You know I'm never going away right?" He asked his friend,

"I know."

"You're going to be stuck with me forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and..." he didn't stop even as Halt got up and walked away, Crowley walked with him, glad of his best friend's presence.
