A/N, please read: So I was listening to Dangerous Woman, by Ariana Grande and came up with the idea of a new character in the RA series. Catherine. Catherine is Will's older sister and the first female knight to be trained in Redmont. Basically she is 4 years apart from Will so for time purposes, was in her final year of training when Will got taken to Skandia. (I'm pretty sure the knight program is five years, please don't kill me if it's not, just go along with it). Will calls her Cathy and she is all the ward kids' friends, because she used to sneak them treats from Chubb's kitchen when they weren't old enough to. She does go on some missions in the series but is kinda on the same appearance level as Gilan. After all this thought, the following is kinda how Halt meets her for the first time, 'kinda' because she was too young to remember when Halt gave them to the orphanage. Anyway, enjoy!

When Catherine had heard form the ever trusting Alyss that her brother was going to become a ranger, her first reaction was pride, pride that Will was going to become one of the best of the best, she had seen the Ranger Halt's skills and he was by far the best archer she had ever seen and the stories about what he had done were the stuff of legends. Her second reaction was fury, how could Will not have told her? With her graduation only being a year away, she didn't exactly have time to go down to the little cabin in the woods where multiple people had seen the Ranger disappear into the trees nearby, and possibly get lost, just to shout at her brother for not telling her. She decided that she would send him a very angry letter, very angry.

Halt accepted the letters from the postman and sat down at the small table to read them, surprisingly, there was one for Will, he would tell the boy when he came in for lunch. Around an hour later, he came bursting through the door, bow in one hand, and arrows in the other. "There's a letter for you." Halt passed it to him when he took his seat opposite,

"Strange." he watched as he opened it and scanned the contents, he also watched with quiet amusement as Will's eyes widened and he put his head in his hands and put the letter down.

"Well, what was in it?" Will sighed and shrugged

"It's my sister, I didn't tell her I was going to be an apprentice Ranger. And she's kinda mad." he gestured to the letter.

"Surely she's not mad about you becoming a Ranger?" Halt questioned, if that was the case, he might have to find her and change her opinion.

"No it's not that," he said hastily, "she says she's actually proud of me for that, she's mad because I didn't tell her, didn't even write a letter, she had to hear it from Alyss." After he had found out he was going to train under the legendary ranger Halt, Will had maybe forgotten to tell her.

"Well, we'll have to fix that won't we." Will sighed again and proceeded to put his head on the table. "Don't worry, you won't have to do a thing." Halt sipped from his mug, a plan forming.

Catherine was practicing late, she couldn't sleep, here in the training ground all she had to focus on was the swinging of her sword, here she could block the thoughts from her mind. She was sweaty and tired but kept on going, that is until she felt a presence behind her, someone was there. Suddenly she swung her sword away from the practice dummy and aimed behind her, nearly decapitating, a cloaked figure, not just any cloak, a ranger cloak. "Who are you?" she didn't lower her sword. The stranger flipped back his cowl, revealing a roughly shaved beard and black, tousled hair.

"Catherine, I presume." Okay this was getting weird now.

"Yea, that's me."

"You're very good, you know at hitting the dummy and stuff." She laughed, she knew who this was now.

"You don't have to pretend you know about sword drills, Ranger Halt."

"Thank God, I was slightly struggling." he put a hand at the back of his head. "Listen, Will doesn't know I'm here but I wanted to talk to you." That caught her off guard, how did Halt even know who she was, let alone want to speak to her. "Come let's sit." she sheathed her sword and followed him to a fallen log, they sat down. "Will told me about the letter you sent him." Uh oh, this could not be good. "I think you're right."

"What!" he raised his eyebrows at her, "Sorry I just thought, when you said that, you'd come to tell me to lay off or something."

"Well, I could, but that's not why I came. I want you to visit." He stared at her, straight in the eyes.

"Okay?" She was so confused.

"Look Catherine, you're the only family my apprentice has and being a Ranger can be lonely sometimes, you obviously have a very close bond and I don't want that to go away just because of the path Will has chosen, you're welcome anytime."

"Thank you sir, I-"

"Please don't call me sir, it makes me feel old, call me Halt." she chuckled

"Okay, Halt."

"You're different," Halt observed.

"Yes, being the first female knight does that."

"You didn't react when you worked out I was a Ranger."

"Well of course not, you may be really good archers and knife wielders, but the fact that people say you dabble in black magic is slightly pushing it."

"You don't believe the rumors?" Halt was intrigued.

"No, rumors are just that, rumors, plus I've seen you out and about, what you do is incredible, that's why I was proud of Will becoming your apprentice, I knew he would be in good hands and had to be good for you to notice him." he nodded and stood up,

"I should really be going, but please come for dinner tomorrow, Will would enjoy that."

"I will, thank you." she nodded as they parted ways, but Catherine thought she saw a small smile on Halt's lips. Yes, Will would do great with him.
