Dear Crowley, 14/7
Please find enclosed my monthly report, I hope you find peace in new coming summer.
Halt
Dear Halt, 27/7
I found your report very very boring. Write it in a more exciting way next time I'm not getting any younger you know. How's Will doing? I haven't seen him in ages. I was thinking about the gathering half a year ago and realised it's the only time we all get together, us and Will and Gilan. We should really make an effort to get together more. Summer is beautiful, the birds are singing and flowers blooming, kind of a contrast to your grumpy personality but still, wish you were here.
Crowley
Crowley, 7/8
Yes maybe a get together would be beneficial but you can go ahead without me, I have too much to attend to. Your personality is atrociously sunny.

Why do you insist on writing so little in your letter when I write my thoughts to you. I take that comment as a compliment, sunny like my red hair.
Crowley
Crowley, 27/8
Maybe if I could find something worth writing about I would. Saw Will a couple days ago, it seems he too has caught your happy personality

Halt, 10/9
I do believe that now autumn is approaching we need to sort out if we will see each other for Christmas.

Sorry can't meet for Christmas
Halt

Please give a reason that's actually viable, and don't dodge the question I know you. If you don't want to meet you can just say, be honest with me.
Crowley

Since we're being honest. Spending Christmas together would be the worst thing right now.
Halt
Halt was worried, the last letter from his best friend was over 3 weeks ago. So he decided enough was enough he would go check on his friend, in person. Of course he had sent him follow up letters most consisting of Halt asking him to write back, just to know he was alive. But nothing had arrived.
He wove his way in and out of various maids bustling about Castle Araluen. He blended in and out of sight until he reached a door with an oak leaf insignia carved into the front. He sighed and then knocked, the occasion called for knocking opposed to his usual bursting through the door unannounced.
"Come in, Halt did we have a meeting?"
"You know why I'm goddamn here Crow. Come on, three weeks without any contact, you figured I'd come down sooner or later."
"Sure." He was bent over a pile of papers.
"Crowley look at me." He continued to ignore him "What did I do? What did I say?" He shouted across the room now, hand running through his hair. "Look I just I want to make things right but how can I when I don't know what you're mad at me for?" The red head looked up. He then silently picked up a letter set apart from the various piles of paperwork.
"The 1st of October, since we're being honest, spending Christmas together would be the worst thing right now. You wrote those words to me Halt, yet you barge in here and have the audacity to ask why I'm upset?" The reality of what he had wrote sunk in, he didn't mean that, any of it. That night had a fight with Will which had left him in a sour mood and when he read Crowleys letter, the last thing he wanted to do was see him, or anybody for that matter. His friends eyes glistened in the candlelight, he could hear the rain pouring outside.
"Crowley I-"
"If you didn't want to see me you could've just said." His voice sounded abnormally small and he sniffed as he wiped his eyes on the back of his sleeve. Halt was speechless, did Crowley really care about what their friendship that much? When he realised what life would be like without his best friend, he realised he too would probably react like Crowley. Honestly he wasn't sure if he could survive without him. So he crossed the room and gave him a hug wrapping both arms around his neck to bring him closer.
"Crowley I don't know what I would do without you, despite what I say I never don't want to spend time with you."
"Halt?"
"Yea."
"You're my best friend. I just didn't want to loose you."
"I'm not going anywhere, I'm staying here with you." And they stood hugging each other for a very long time, longer than either one of them would like to admit.
