CHAPTER 6: AN ENCOUNTER – A STORY

Exactly a couple of days later Philip called Chandler to give him the address his father had in Montreal.

Chandler thanked him very much. When he hung up, he called Monica to tell her the news and ask her to get two tickets to Montreal for Friday night. -

They arrived in Montreal at midnight, and stayed in a hotel,

The next morning, after breakfast, they looked up the area where the Morrison's lived on a map, rented a car, and drove there.

They found the house, but it was a new disappointment, since they did not know the Morrison's there, but the man who attended them told them that a young woman lived in the neighboring house that they knew had lived in that house for years.

Again a light of hope came on, they knocked on the door and a man of about 40 years of age opened it, he asked them what they needed, since if they came to preach they were not interested.

Chandler smiled. "Not at all sir, we're actually looking for a lady who told us she's been living in this house for years and we need to ask her about the Morrison family."

The man said "OK" he turned around and shouted "Lilian, someone is here looking for a Morrison family!"

A woman in her thirties, blonde and with beautiful green eyes, quickly came out.

"Hello, I'm Lilian, my husband tells me that you are asking about the Morrison's"

"Yeas, we're really looking for Elizabeth Morrison, it's been a few months since I found out she's my half-sister and I'm looking for her," Chandler said.

"Eli had a brother named Philip, well actually he was her dad's son."

"Yes, he gave us the address of their house, which is the one next door," Monica explained.

"Yea, I was a neighbor with Eli for several years…. We had become friends... but after the death of her father she and her mother had to leave the house. Eli had graduated from Medical and was about to marry a guy, also a doctor named Víctor"… "after they left I lost contact, although I knew that she and her boyfriend were planning to move to California, I think to Los Angeles and Janet her mother was planning to go back to her town in Massachusetts."

"Look, Los Angeles is huge, maybe you could remember Janet's town." Chandler said, burning off the last few shots of him.

"The truth is that I don't remember the name…. But, wait, if I look at a map of Massachusetts it will probably guide me" Lilan ushered Monica and Chandler in and asked her husband "Michel, can you look on the computer for a map of Massachusetts that has all the towns."

Lilian, Chandler and Monica sat together in front of the computer and after a careful search Lilian found Janet's town, it's called Rockport, at that moment she remembered it perfectly, she also knew it was a coastal town because Janet had told her that her grandfather he was a fisherman

They noticed that the city had more than 6,000 inhabitants, so they could surely locate Janet at the town hall, only they didn't know her maiden name, another stumbling block, but they were closer to her.

Monica and Chandler decided to go back home, and try, through the internet, to find out more, and they also decided that on Monday of the following week, they would take a vacation and first travel to Boston with the adoption data, which as it was open and Chandler was related to the Elizabeth, they could maybe find out Janet's full name and then they would go to Rockport and try to locate her.

Chandler during the week prior to the trip found out in the Dto. of Social Services, and in the Registry of the meeting of adoptees in Massachusetts, but the data that was required for any search was missing. I also request an appointment in the Vital and Statistics Registry, which was granted for the following Tuesday at 12 pm .

The Saturday before the trip the whole gang met for a Barbecue and there Monica told them how the investigations were progressing and confirmed that they were going to Boston on Monday, they needed to be there on business days to be able to do the paperwork in order to find out the Janet's full name.

Ross told them that Social Services are usually very firm regarding the confidentiality of data, but it was worth a try.

But the trip to Boston was useless, since due to confidentiality conditions they could not provide information about the procedures, especially if he was looking for a person of legal age, even if the adoption had been open. In the Vital and Statistics Registry, he did not find any data on adoptions. In the Adoption Registry there is no data until 2008…. It was a disappointing search.

On Wednesday morning they rented a car to go to Rockport.-

At the town hall they were able to access the list of residents living in Rockport, they did not find any person with the surname Morrison, but they did find 33 women with the name of Janet, reducing the possibilities to 8 according to Janet's presumed age.

On the fifth try they reached the house of Janet Mac Allister. -

When they knocked on the door, they were answered by a woman in her 60s. Monica asked if Mrs. Janet Morrison lived there.

The lady looked at them with surprise and said "Janet Morrison is my sister, you who need her"

Chandler explained that they have been looking for Elizabeth Morrison for months, but the only clue they have to find her is to locate her adoptive mother, Janet Morrison. -

The lady who answered them told them "My name is Anne, and I am Janet's sister, and I would like to know why you are looking for Elizabeth."

"Anne, my name is Chandler Bing, I am the son of Eleonora Tayler, Elizabeth's biological mother, I am Elizabeth's half-brother and I found out about her existence a few months ago, and I would like to meet her and for her to meet me, we are family"

"Wait a minute, boy, I'm going to look for my sister, but come in, you're not going to stop there"

Monica and Chandler walked in and sat on a couch in the living room.

From what looked like a kitchen, a woman in a wheelchair came out, and with a face of being surprised by the visit.

"Good afternoon, I am Janet Mac Allister Morrison and my sister tells me that you are looking for Elizabeth"

Chandler spoke calmly, this story had been repeated hundreds of times. "Hello, Mrs. Morrison, my name is Chandler Bing, I am the son of Eleonora Tayler, a few months ago I found out that my mother gave birth to a girl in the city of Boston which she gave up for open adoption, by then I had a few three years. You wrote to her for several years telling Elizabeth's progress and you sent her photos, those letters and those photos are kept by my father and shortly before he died he told me the story and he gave me the letters and photos, here they are…"

As Chandler spoke Janet she was looking deep into her eyes.

"Son, I do not doubt your relationship with Elizabeth, you have the same eyes, the color ... the look."

"Janet, it took me a long time with my wife Monica to find her, we went to the address where you lived when you wrote the letters, we found out about your moving to Montreal, we found out that her husband Harold was an accountant and we were able to establish what company he worked for, and we connected via internet with Philip the son of Harold"

"Oh yeah…" Janet said with an annoyed frown.

Chandler continued, "he was the one who gave us his address in Montreal, and there we made contact with Lilian, a neighbor and friend of your daughter, she told us that you had moved about 10 years ago, that she believed that Elizabeth had moved away, married and moved to California and that you had returned to your town, Rockport. We traveled here, but there was no resident of the city with the last name Morrison in the town hall, but there were more than 30 Janet, and so, knocking on doors, we got here"

Chandler gave her his best smile.

Janet, she just said "My god"…. and tears began to fall from her eyes, squeezing her heart with her hand.

Monica asked, "Mrs. Are you fine…"

Anne brought her a glass of water.

After drinking it, she reached over the coffee table and picked up a picture frame, handing it over to Chandler and Monica saying… "this is my Elizabeth and Victor is her husband…"

Chandler anxiously asked "they live in California..."

"Son, they lived in San Francisco..." she cried again... "But they had a serious car accident a little over a year ago and they both died, Eli instantly, and Víctor days later..."

Chandler and Monica were petrified, Chandler only managed to pass his hand over the back of his neck and then over his face, his eyes filled with tears, he had so many expectations….

Monica hugged him by his shoulders trying to protect him and took his hand tightly. He entwined her fingers tightly.

"I had such hopes of finding her…" he said with a trembling voice "I don't have any siblings…. well, not by blood, I have wonderful siblings for life, who are already my family, but since I found out about Elizabeth…. I just wanted to meet her, to know how she had lived… if she was happy… "

Anne looked at him with tears in her eyes, "Yes Chandler, she was very happy, my sister and Harold took great care of her and loved her deeply and made her a strong, happy and she was a very intelligent woman. She was a doctor like Víctor… "

Janet spoke… "Harold and I wrote several letters recounting the girl's progress, with photos, but Eleonora, didn't your mother? … she never answered…. and a few years later they started returning our letters and we lost all contact…"

"Yes, surely when they got divorced and we left that house she didn't give you her new address…. the sad truth is that my mother did not want anything to do with Elizabeth, it was my father who took care of keeping the letters and photos and he gave them to me before he died…" said Chandler

"From what you say, your father was not Eli's father...? commented Anne

"No, my mother had an affair, and she got pregnant, she was not in a happy marriage with my father so she decided to abandon the girl, my father did not agree, but it was my mother's decision and he had to accept it, but he took care of rescuing and keeping yours letters"

"He was a good man…. said Anne

"Yes, we had a lot of differences when I was young, but I ended up realizing that he was a very good human being," Chandler said with tears in his eyes.

Monica asked, "Elizabeth had children..."

"Yes three" said Janet, "Lucas who is now 6 years old, Emily who is 4, and Magi who is 2…. They were a very happy family…"

And where are the children now? Monica asked.

"They are here with me and Anne, I have temporary custody, they are in the custody of the Social Services, since due to my illness I cannot have them permanently... the day I am no longer here they will be given into custody to another family and then up for adoption" said Janet sadly "it won't be long before that, I suffer from ALS..."

Monica jumped in immediately, "but they have family, Chandler is their uncle…. I am your aunt...,"

Chandler looked at her with a crooked smile. "There she jumped the motherly scent of her..."

Anne asked "You do they have children...

"Yes, we couldn't have our own children and 8 years ago we adopted twins, a girl Erika and a boy Jack..." "We also did it with open adoption and we maintain contact with the biological mother"

"But she answers..." said Janet with a bit of sarcasm

"I feel ashamed of the way my mother behaved…. But she's like that," Chandler commented.

"They stay with us right? The three of them will come in a while, the two oldest from school and Magi from the kindergarten..."

"Yes of course, we want to meet them," Chandler said.

"We can't wait to meet them," Monica added with a sweet smile.

While Anne was preparing tea for everyone, Chandler asked Janet to tell him about Elizabeth, what she was like, where she studied, where she met Victor, what her character was like, he wanted to know everything.

Janet asked Anne to hand over her photo albums. -

They began to see Elizabeth as a child, photos at school functions, her graduation, her prom, photos with her classmates at the university, photos with Víctor and her wedding with him.

Elizabeth had become a beautiful woman, she was taller than Nora, but she looked a lot like her, her hair was a light brown, and Monica confirmed that her eye color and way of looking were the same as from Chandler.

There were also photos of her with coworkers at the Hospital, she was a doctor and had specialized in cardiology, and finally photos of the birth of each of her three children and photos of her children.

Chandler felt emotional and also deeply sad that he had not been able to meet her in person, talk to her, hug her…. It was evident that she was a good person, loved by her friends, by her husband…. Fortunately, you could tell that her adoptive parents had raised her with love, she seemed like a happy woman…. he was sure her fate was much better apart from Nora.

But unfortunately she was no longer there, and all his expectations had been dashed.

Monica knew the pain that his beloved husband was going through, she could do little in the face of an irreparable situation, just hug him, be with him all the time...

The hour flew by and the children arrived home, Lucas was in his first grade, and Emily was in Kinder and Magi was in kindergarten.

Lucas was tall for his age, with black hair and blue eyes like his mother, Emily was smaller, her hair was light brown and she also had her mother's eyes, and Magi was the one with lighter hair and black eyes, like Victor.

When they entered they were surprised to find that couple in their grandmother's house.

Lucas asked Janet, "they are from the social service…"

Janet hugged him and smiled sweetly "No, my love, they're your uncles... Chandler was your mom's brother and Monica is his wife."

Lucas stared at them and said "I didn't know we had uncles…. I never saw them before… Mom didn't tell me…"

Chandler with his soft smile and a low and calm voice told him "Lucas, I didn't know until recently that I had a sister, and your mom didn't know that she had a brother either, I found out a few months ago and I came to meet you..."

"And you have children…" Lucas asked.

"Yes two" Monica answered and showed the three little brothers a photo on her cell phone. "They are twins, their names are Erica and Jack and they are 8 years old…. Would you like to meet them? "

"Yes maybe, …. Don't they hit? asked Emily

"No, they are good children, they don't hit …. They have many cousins and they get along well with everyone."

Janet asked Chandler "do you have any other siblings?"

"No, I am an only child, Monica has a brother, Ross, who has three children, Ben from a first marriage who is already 18 years old, and from his second marriage he has two, Emma 10 and Martin 4, like Emily"

And Monica added, "there are also Phoebe's children, who is like a sister to us, she has two girls, Sofia and Belinda. And we all meet every Saturday at home for a barbecue and the children play all the time, they get along very well "

Janet commented "they seem very close with their friends"

"They are my family …. the Chosen Family," Chandler replied.

The kids sat on the floor around the new couple as they listened as Monica and Chandler told them how they all met, how endearingly close they had become, and how they two after being best friends for 8 years found out that they were in love and eventually got married. -

"Quite a story," said Anne

Magi approached Monica and held out her arms, Monica quickly picked her up and began to tickle her belly, which made Magi laugh out loud.

"My mom used to make us like that when we cried..." said Lucas

"And I'm sure your grief passed..." Monica told him with a soft smile... "moms and dads and grandmas know how to make you feel better..."

"Yes, Grandma is very good, but she can't pick us up because she's sick..."

"Lucas, it doesn't matter if your grandmother can't physically hold you or hug you, but you have to know that she hugs you with her heart" Monica replied and held out her hand to caress him.

Emily immediately came over looking for caresses too. Chandler lifted Emily onto his lap and placed a soft kiss on her forehead.

Janet and Anne watched the scene with a smile, their eyes misting with tears.

Chandler and Monica told them they were leaving, and Janet immediately asked them where and if they were coming back.

"Yes, Janet, we're just going to find a hotel to spend the night, and if you want we can come visit you tomorrow," Chandler said.

"It would be perfect" said Janet "We are waiting for you to spend the day with us, tomorrow these three squirrels will stay at home so you can get to know them better"
