Clark let his head rest against the window of the subway car.

It had been a hard day. Working with Lois Lane was incredible, but as they listened to Atom Man's victims and saw the destruction he had caused, Clark felt a growing sense of sadness.

It was hard not to feel impacted by the mysterious man's violent hatred.

'Hey Mr,' came a small voice in front of him, and he looked up at a young girl with pigtails and a flower behind her ear.

'Hi there,' Clark said, shaking off his thoughts and smiling warmly at her.

'You look sad,' she said matter-of-factly.

The woman sitting next to her shook her head in embarrassment and mouthed an apology.

Clark smiled reassuringly at the woman before turning back to the little girl.

'You're right, I am feeling sad,' Clark told her. 'But that's okay. Everyone's sad sometimes.'

The girl considered that for a moment, before reaching up into her hair and pulling out the flower.

'I was sad today too,' she told him. 'But my friend Benny gave me this flower and I felt better.'

She placed the flower in Clark's hand. 'You should have it, then you can feel better too.'

Clark felt warmth filling his heart. He beamed from ear to ear, accepting the flower and cradling it gently like a delicate treasure.

'That's very kind of you,' he said with a twinkle in his eye.

'You have to wear it though,' the little girl insisted.

'Let the man be,' the older woman said, giving him an apologetic look.

Clark laughed. 'Of course! Something this beautiful should definitely be on display.'

With that, he tucked the flower behind his ear. 'What do you think?'

The little girl giggled in response and the older woman smiled at him gratefully.

When the subway car pulled to a stop, Clark waved goodbye to the young girl.

Despite the occasional confused look, he kept the flower behind his ear the rest of the way home.
