Season 4 Episode 19: RESCUE KNIGHTS AND THE QUEST FOR EXCALIBARK! SWEETIE'S DESTINY REALIZED!
August 10th, 2030: Kingdom Of Flappington, 10:50 PM
"Your highness, the blacksmiths have finished their project." A royal aide told the Duke of Flappington.
Claw grinned maliciously as the golden bone was brought out and shown to them. "It's as close as we'll ever get to the real thing." The Duke smirked as he took the bone from his aide.
"We put painstaking amounts of effort into recreating the golden bone. Extensive amounts of research on the details of it, recorded in the royal Barkingburg and Flappington archives. Our spies in Barkingburg nearly got caught. Thankfully, they managed to deflect suspicion." The aide spoke.
"What are we waiting for? Let's execute this plan!" Claw shouted excitedly.
The Duke nodded his head in agreement. "It's already late, so we can leave under the cloak of night. Come, Claw. We will drop Sparks off on the outskirts of the Dragon Highlands in order to avoid being detected." The Duke of Flappington ordered.
The Doberman dutifully followed his new master, eager to regain his title as the true royal knight of Barkingburg.
August 11th, 2030: Kingdom Of Barkingburg
The pups laughed as they played with a suit of knight's armor that the Princess had brought out of storage for them to reassemble. "Okay, so this piece goes here, and then that one goes over there!" Rubble exclaimed.
Marshall put the leg piece up to the foot piece, and did the same for the other set. "Then this arm piece goes with the left hand!" Rubble announced.
Arrby started trying to put the arm with one of the hands, but Rubble shook his head no. "That's the right hand, Arrby." Rubble gently told him.
The little dachshund sighed as he dropped the right hand piece in his mouth and walked over, picking up the left hand in his mouth and bringing it over. "I'm no good at construction…" Arrby grumbled.
"It's okay! That's why we have me!" Rubble chuckled.
As they were about to finish putting the suit of armor together, they heard a cacophony of trumpets from the castle gardens. "EVERYONE COME TO THE CASTLE COURTYARD GARDENS! I'VE MADE THE MOST AMAZING DISCOVERY!" A jubilant voice cried out.
Ben's hand went to the sword on his belt as they went outside to the courtyard. The Duke of Flappington and Claw stood next to a pedestal with a golden bone embedded inside. "Cousin!?" Bethany exclaimed in shock and horror.
"THE DUKE OF LIP FLAPPING!" Ryder and Ben shouted, drawing their swords and stepping in front of the princess protectively.
"Claw…!" All eight of the pups growled.
"It's the DUKE of FLAPPINGTON, not the duke of lip flapping!" The Princess's cousin yelled at them.
"And it's SIR CLAW!" The former knight snarled.
"Don't get your armor and swords in a twist! We're not here for a fight. We've found the lost treasure, the golden bone blade of Excalibark!" The Duke announced.
"E-Excalibark!?" Sweetie hissed, baring her fangs.
"Straight from the pages of the storybooks. The legend says, whoever has the bone once it is free from the pedestal is the one true royal knight of Barkingburg!" The Duke cackled.
"We're already knights, dude." Zuma pointed out.
"The ROYAL Knight is the royal waver who accompanies the princess and waves to the general populace." The Duke sneered.
"I seem to recall the legend saying that whoever pulls the bone is the one true royal knight." The Princess harrumphed.
"Your copy of the legend must be wrong." The Duke scoffed.
Claw stepped up to the pedestal. "Pincers." The Doberman barked, and the grabbing arm extended from his pup pack, but then it started flailing around like crazy. "NO! WORK, YOU PIECE OF RUBBISH!" Claw screamed in anger.
He growled as he then put his paws around the golden bone and tried pulling it out, but found he couldn't. "Damn it, I must have put it in too tight, I forgot to account for Claw's broken pup pack!" The Duke swore in his head.
"I can take care of that!" Rubble exclaimed. Pressing a paw to his pup tag, the construction pup's body was surrounded by a yellow glow before it died down to reveal Rubble wearing his pup pack. "Jackhammer!" Rubble shouted, and the jackhammer emerged from his pup pack, breaking the stone pedestal into pieces. The Duke grew nervous, but thankfully the bone stayed intact.
Rubble then picked up the newly freed gold bone in his mouth. "Da da da daaaaaaaaa!" Rubble sang.
"RUBBLE…" Ben stammered.
"…IS THE ROYAL KNIGHT!?" Ryder shouted in shock.
"Y-Y-YOU CHEATED!" Claw protested.
Rubble spat out the golden bone, now completely covered in drool, which made neither the Duke nor Claw want to touch it. "Nuh uh, no I didn't! The legend only says whoever has the bone is the royal knight, it doesn't say that I have to pull it from the stone! It doesn't say anything about how to get the golden bone, meaning that there's no right way to remove it from the pedestal!" Rubble pointed out.
"NO FAIR, NO FAIR, NO FAIR! I WAS SUPPOSED TO BECOME ROYAL KNIGHT AND THEN I WOULD BE UN-EXILED, I WOULDN'T HAVE TO SCROUNGE AND HUNT IN THE WOODS FOR MUSHROOMS AND RATS! I WOULD GET TO AT LEAST HAVE A NICE BED TO SLEEP IN! I'll… I'll…! YOU MOTHERF-!" Claw screamed, starting to charge at Rubble.
The Duke smirked as he picked up Claw and vanished in a puff of golden smoke. Reappearing at the edge of the Dragon Highlands where Sparks was sleeping, Claw screamed several expletives and threats. "I WAS ABOUT TO SHOW HIM THAT I WANTED TO MAKE GOOD ON THOSE THREATS, WHY DID YOU STOP ME!?" Claw sobbed in anger and anguish, having been so close to getting what he wanted and getting it stripped away from him in the blink of an eye.
"Calm down. We just have to take the fake Excalibark back from him when the time is right." The Duke reassured.
Claw took in a deep breath as he calmed down.
The pups couldn't help but feel a bit bad for Claw. "Well, now that you're the royal knight, Rubble, this is cause for celebration! Let's have a parade!" The Earl decreed.
As the team watched and helped Rubble get ready for his parade, Sweetie stormed off, which Ben noticed. After telling Ryder and Ben that he was going to go check on the white west highland terrier pup, he ran off after her, seeing her go into one of the hidden corridors. "You sure do know your way around this place." Ben remarked as he narrowly got into the passage before the stone wall sealed itself behind him.
"B-Ben!? No, go back! This is too dangerous!" Sweetie urgently said.
"Dangerous? What are you even talking about, Sweetie?" Ben questioned.
"I'm going after the REAL Excalibark. While everyone dotes and fawns over Rubble and his fake one, Claw will try to get the fake one back. But I have a news flash for him… because I know where the REAL one is." Sweetie growled.
"How do you know where the real Excalibark is-?" Ben started to ask before he slammed into a stone wall, having not been watching where he was going.
"Read the inscription on the wall you just smacked your head into." Sweetie simply said.
Ben started to look at the writing on the walls and was utterly baffled.
"Extra osti-what? Hoc lapideum… the hell does this say, Sweetie!?" Ben wondered.
"Extra ostium hoc lapideum jacet tentationes et tribulationes quae ossis fabulosi ferrum obsignant. Postquam intraveris, relinquere non potes, donec artificium recuperare vel perire conaris." Sweetie stated, as if that was child's play for her.
Ben facepalmed at that. "Yes, very good, but WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?" Ben groaned.
"It's Latin. Obviously. Translated, it goes as follows… 'Beyond this stone door lies the trials and tribulations that seal away the legendary bone blade. After you enter, you cannot leave until you retrieve the artifact or perish trying.' Do you not know Latin?" Sweetie explained.
"Latin is a dead language." Ben argued.
"Well, that's not the only dead thing around here. Look over there." Sweetie pointed out, gesturing to one of the walls.
Ben turned his head, expecting to see a skeleton or corpse, but instead saw a portrait of a dog… one that looked eerily like Sweetie. "My mother Elora. Her painting is down here. She told me the tale of Excalibark when I was merely a squealing infant." Sweetie clarified.
"Why would your mother's painting be down here?" Ben pondered.
"...She had the gift of prophecy… and she may have seen the future, and hidden Excalibark down here for someone like you to find." Sweetie told him.
Ben puffed his chest up in pride as he realized what Sweetie was saying. "Y-you want me to be the royal knight, the legendary hero? I'm so touched!" Ben exclaimed.
Sweetie giggled. "Well… you are one of the people that inspired me to stop being a royal pain in the arse." Sweetie smirked.
Both of them laughed, helping clear up the air. "You wanna come along with me and help me navigate these trials and tribulations?" Ben offered.
Sweetie nodded her head as she and Ben pressed their hands to the wall, with it opening up. Walking through the doorway, it then slammed shut behind them.
"If they can't get across the bridge, they're stuck. And that means they can't reach the carriage to save the princess and guard the bone! Sparks, fly into that bridge, and smash it apart!" Claw ordered his dragon, and his steed obeyed, taking a big dive and destroying a significant amount of the bridge.
"Everyone, please meet my new royal knight of Barkingburg, Sir Rubble!" Princess Bethany announced.
"Nice to meet you! And if you ever need something built, or rescuing, just yelp for help!" Rubble earnestly shouted to the crowds as he waved his paw.
"Ah ah ah! Leave the rescuing to Ryder. You're a royal knight now!" The Earl chided.
"Okay!" Rubble enthusiastically replied, not understanding what that meant.
Suddenly, Sparks flew overhead, causing the crowd to scatter. "The bridge is broken, your highness! Now we cannot return to the safety of the castle!" The Earl exclaimed in horror.
"Bridge is broken!? I can help!" Rubble exclaimed.
"No, you can't." The Earl growled at Rubble.
The construction pup looked confused as he gazed at the broken bridge. "Yes I can, I'm a construction pup!" Rubble protested.
"Not anymore. You're a royal knight. Royal Knights simply sit and wave." The Earl sternly said to Rubble.
"I'll call them, don't worry." The Princess angrily told the Earl before making the call herself.
"Ryder! Claw broke the castle bridge and now is attempting to retrieve Excalibark! If he manages to get the bone, he can name my evil cousin as the new ruler, and then he can do anything he wants!" The Princess's voice rang out as Ryder answered his pup pad.
"I understand. No bridge is too broken, no pup is too small!" Ryder promised her before ending the call.
"RESCUE KNIGHTS TO THE CASTLE LOOKOUT!" Ryder then announced to the pups present.
The young man knew that Sweetie was searching with Ben for the true Excalibark, and that Rubble was tied up as the royal knight. Ryder, Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rocky, Zuma, and Arrby all ran to the castle's front entrance. Standing on the cylindrical subsection of the floor, the pillar began to rise, elevating them to the halfway point where the mechanical arms all emerged and dressed them in anti-dragon defensive knight's armor, before continuing to rise until they were in a room with a round table. Outside, the castle's mechanisms activated, transforming it into a fortified base of operations. What was interesting this time was that Arrby was wearing Rubble's yellow construction pup knight armor and his pup pack. "Rescue Knights ready for action, Sir Ryder, sir!" Chase howled as they took their seats around the round table.
"Thanks for hurrying, pup knights! Claw and Sparks wrecked the bridge, stranding the royal carriage on the other side of the bridge and cutting it off from the castle. We know Claw is after Excalibark, so we need to protect the carriage as well, and divert Sparks and Claw. For this mission, I need Rocky to use his hook to pull the bridge pieces out of the water. Arrby, you'll use Rubble's rig to fix the bridge. Chase, Marshall, Zuma, Skye, the four of you will work with me to defend the carriage from Claw." Ryder instructed.
"Chase is on that dragon's case!" The German Shepherd barked.
"I'm fired up to fight for what's right!" Marshall cheered.
"This puppy knight's gotta fly and fight!" Skye yipped.
"Time to dive into dragonic danger!" Zuma shouted.
"Green means go to the rescue!" Rocky roared.
"Arrby uh… on the double…" Arrby hesitantly said, very unsure of his capabilities as a construction pup.
"RESCUE KNIGHTS, RIDE TO THE RESCUE!" Ryder commanded, and all of the team members present deployed to do their assigned tasks.

As the door slammed behind them, Ben drew the sword from his belt. The torches lining the walls flared to life all of a sudden. "Spooky." Ben muttered as he and Sweetie walked down the hallway before entering a room with three exits: one north, one east, and one west. The north door was locked with a padlock, and the eastern one was sealed shut with two unlit torches in front of the door. "West it is." Ben sighed as he and Sweetie made their way down the hallway, eventually coming to an empty room.
Skeletons popped up, causing Sweetie to yelp as she was startled by it. The skeletons began to advance on Ben, but the human quickly reacted, slicing through one of them with his blade and punching the other with his free fist. The two of them breathed a sigh of relief as the skeletons did NOT reform and remained as piles of bones on the ground. A treasure chest appeared in the middle of the room, emerging from a panel in the floor. Ben and Sweetie looked at each other before grinning and trying to open the chest.

"WE GOT…" Ben started to say as he opened up the chest, rummaging around in it before pulling out a candle.
"THE CANDLE OF ETERNITY!" Sweetie squealed in excitement.
"Candle of Eternity?!" Ben asked quizzically.
"The Candle of Eternity! It's enchanted to never go out and legend has it that it can transfer that flame to other places!" Sweetie explained.
"Transfer it to other places, eh…?" Ben mused as he walked out of the room and over to the room they'd just come from.
Pressing the candle up to the torches, they blazed to life. The door that the torches were in front of opened. "Well, I would have thought that was an obvious solution." Sweetie chuckled.
"It was. Haven't you played Legend of Zelda?" Ben laughed.
The two of them grinned as they went down the corridor, the candle that Ben held lighting the way. Coming to another room, the door shut behind them, and a groaning sound. "W-What was that?" Sweetie gulped. The two of them then saw a zombified paper-wrapped creature stumble into view. "KILL IT!" Sweetie shrieked.
"Heh, don't worry, this'll be easy as the skeletons." Ben confidently said before he tried to hack and slash at the mummy. However the mummy did not appear damaged by the sword strikes: it wasn't even scratched. The sword wasn't penetrating the paper wrapping around it somehow. "The hell?! How is it immune to swords?" Ben yelled as it lunged for him, knocking the sword and candle from his hands and Ben had to use all of his strength to hold the mummy back and keep it from biting his chest.
Sweetie ran forward, picking up the candle and throwing it at the mummy. Instantly, the creature released its grasp on Ben as the fire spread up its legs and covered every inch of its body, burning it to ashes.
"That was close…" Ben panted as the door on the other side of the room opened up.
They then started heading into the next room, anxious about what awaited them.
BACK AT THE CASTLE
"Ugh, this is impossible!" Arrby complained as he struggled with operating Rubble's construction rig.
Ryder was reminded of times where Rocky had to operate Rubble's rig… but Rocky was needed to pull the dislodged stones out of the water… and Zuma's Rescue Knight vehicle didn't have a submarine mode. "Princess, take cover inside the building. Claw and Sparks are focused on the castle." The Earl commanded.
Nodding, the Princess hugged him and Rubble goodbye before running off. "LET ME HELP FIX THE BRIDGE!" Rubble shouted at the Earl.
"ROYAL KNIGHTS DO NOT FIX BRIDGES LIKE A COMMON CARPENTER!" The Earl yelled back.
"BUT I'M NOT JUST A ROYAL KNIGHT, I'M A RESCUE KNIGHT! ONE WHO SPECIALIZES IN CONSTRUCTION!" Rubble snarled.
This then proceeded to go on for several minutes now. "YOUR DUTY AS A ROYAL KNIGHT SUPERSEDES ALL OTHER JOBS AND RESPONSIBILITIES!" The Earl insisted.
"IF THAT'S WHAT BEING A ROYAL KNIGHT MEANS THEN I QUIT!" Rubble screamed, taking the royal red feather from his knight helmet and throwing it on the ground before stomping on it multiple times.
"Y-you can't just QUIT being a royal knight!" The old man cried out.
"Yes I can! I won't be a royal knight if it means I can't help anyone else! I'm a Rescue Knight, and a Paw Patrol member first and foremost!" Rubble roared.
The Earl lowered his volume and had a look of murderous rage on his face. "Perhaps this royal knight needs some discipline." The Earl hissed before he started to move towards Rubble, hand raised to strike the bulldog.
Out of nowhere a dagger flew and impaled itself in the Earl's raised hand, causing him to shriek in shock. Claw leapt in front of Rubble protectively. "I won't let you hurt him like you hurt me, you monster!" Claw growled. Seething in anger, the Earl backed away and retreated into a building, clutching his bleeding hand all the while.
Claw then leapt away from the carriage and ran off. Rubble blinked for a minute. Had Claw just saved him? He was then distracted by the sound of Arrby and Rocky talking to each other, with Arrby sounding very frustrated. Howling, Rubble leapt to his feet and ran off towards the bridge. His team needed him! As his mind focused solely on helping the others, he failed to notice that the golden bone of Excalibark was missing from the royal carriage…
"Zuma, give me some buoys to use as platforms!" Rubble announced as he approached the broken bridge.
"RUBBLE!" Rocky, Zuma, Arrby, and Ryder all cheered.
The chocolate Labrador deployed some buoys from his boat and they splashed in the water, with the bulldog running and leaping across them before jumping onto the bridge and climbing into his rig as Arrby got out of it. "Sorry about your rig, Rubble. I… might have given it a few dents…" Arrby sheepishly said.
"It's okay! Rocky can buff those dents right out!" Rubble enthusiastically said.
Working with the others, he was able to help rebuild the bridge. "Being a royal knight was fun and all, for the first few hours. But if it means not contributing as a member of the PAW Patrol, I don't want to be one." Rubble told them.
Ryder's eyes widened as he realized something. "Rubble? Where's Excalibark?" Ryder questioned.
The bulldog froze in his tracks. "The… carriage…" Rubble slowly said.
"At least Claw can't get it from up on his dragon's back… Chase, Marshall, and Skye are holding him off." Ryder sighed in relief. "RYDER, CLAW ISN'T ON SPARKS'S BACK!" Chase's voice suddenly screamed over communications.
Chase, Skye, and Marshall had been exchanging blasts with Sparks for a while, with the dragon continuously breathing fireballs at them and Marshall hosing every blast down with water. "Aren't any of you finding this strange?" Chase questioned.
"What's the strange thing? We've fought Sparks and Claw before." Skye remarked.
Marshall gasped as he realized that Chase was onto something. "No, no, Chase has a point! Doesn't Claw usually hurl insults at us from the back of his dragon?" Marshall exclaimed.
"Well we've only fought Claw once!" Skye pointed out.
"Skye, sweetheart, can you please just try getting a closer look at Sparks's harness and see if Claw is on there?" Chase asked.
Skye chuckled. "But of course, Chasey!" Skye giggled as she flew over behind Sparks, zooming in with her goggles and finding that Claw wasn't on the harness. "Chase, Claw is gone!" Skye shouted in fear.
Chase immediately radioed Ryder with this information. "Oh no…!" Ryder gasped. He immediately gripped his blade as he ran to the interior of the castle, only to see Claw standing before the Duke of Barkingburg with Excalibark in his mouth.
"AS THE ONE TRUE ROYAL KNIGHT OF BARKINGBURG, BY THE POWER VESTED IN ME BY THE HOLY DRAGON SLAYING BLADE OF BONE EXCALIBARK, I NOW PRONOUNCE THE DUKE OF FLAPPINGTON AS THE NEW RULER OF THIS KINGDOM!" Claw shouted.
The Duke of Flappington laughed maniacally as he took a crown out of his pocket and put it on his head. Turning to the royal butlers, he had a malicious grin on his face. "Summon the Earl and the Princess back here. Then, you will take them to the dungeons! As part of my agreement with Claw, the princess and her little white doggie will be spared, and the Earl executed for his crimes against canine kind! I'll figure out what to do with the Paw Patrol later. Most likely exile them or disbar them, killing them will be too much of a diplomatic risk and might incite war or action from Rangers." The Duke ordered the butlers. He then threw an orb at Ryder, which sprouted ropes that entangled and bound the human. The pups all saw this from the outside and landed their vehicles on the rebuilt bridge. "Surrender, or Ryder will lose his hands." The Duke threatened, holding a sword to Ryder's wrist.
Reluctantly, the seven pups stood down. "…Weren't there ten of you pups who faced me in the skies?" The Duke carefully asked.
"Everest and Tracker are back at their homes." Arrby quickly said.
He then counted again. "That's still leaving the Princess's pup missing." The Duke growled. Suddenly, the butlers showed up with the Princess and Earl. "Take them all to the dungeons." The Duke ordered.
"NOT SO FAST, FAKE KING!" Sweetie's voice roared.
Ben and Sweetie were walking through the corridor, when Ben was frozen in place. He saw Sweetie run forward as the room shifted into the castle front room. The Princess sat on the throne, motionless and staring as the Duke of Flappington advanced on her. Drawing a sword from his belt, the duke swung it around before poising himself to stab the princess.
"NO!" Sweetie screamed as she ran forward, sprinting as fast as her four little paws could carry her. Gliding across the floor, she rapidly reached the Duke and the Princess, leaping in front of the Princess as the Duke attempted to bring his sword down on Beth. The sword sliced straight through Sweetie's chest, horrifying Ben. "SWEETIE!" Ben sobbed, sinking to his knees. Sweetie looked down at the blade protruding out of her chest and then back up at the Duke before turning to look at Ben. "Ben, I'm not hurt at all. I didn't feel any pain when the sword went through me." Sweetie told him.
Ben lifted his head to see Sweetie moving around just fine as the castle ballroom vanished to reveal the dungeon floor. A section of the wall that was a dead end slid into the ceiling, and beyond it was a door bearing the symbol of Sweetie's pup tag. "How would… How would anyone know my pup tag symbol? You made it yourself!" Sweetie exclaimed to Ben.
"You mentioned… your mom, Elora?" Ben commented.
Sweetie nodded her head yes. "Her painting was at the front of the dungeon for some reason. She had the gift of seeing the future." Sweetie answered.
"You know… what if she saw your future and placed Excalibark here for you to wield?" Ben pondered.
Sweetie pressed a paw to the door and it opened, revealing the golden bone in the pedestal. "Why do you seek my power…?" A voice boomed in Sweetie's head. "To protect Barkingburg… to ensure the peace of the kingdom… and save our future!" Sweetie declared as she pulled the bone out of the stone that it was encased in.

As she pried the sword out from its resting place, she felt a surge of strength as she held the bone in her paw. Nodding to Ben, the two of them stepped into a blue ring that appeared on the ground and disappeared before rematerializing in the castle hallway. Beginning to run into the throne room, they saw the Duke give orders. "NOT SO FAST, FAKE KING!" Sweetie shouted.
"You're too late, you pretty little pupper. I'm KING! Claw has decreed so with Excalibark!" The Duke cackled.
"That's not Excalibark… THIS IS!" Sweetie exclaimed, brandishing the golden bone blade, a golden aura swirling around her.
"No…" The Duke whispered as he saw the magic of the real artifact in motion. A beam of light blasted from it and disintegrated the fake bone into ash.
"AS THE TRUE WIELDER OF EXCALIBARK, I DECLARE PRINCESS BETHANY THE TRUE QUEEN OF BARKINGBURG!" Sweetie shouted, her voice magnified by the magic of the sword.
The Duke hissed as the light blinded him. "NO!" Claw screamed as his success was stripped away from him once more, picking up a stone and putting it in his pup pack.
"Come, Claw." The Duke growled before vanishing in another golden streak of light, this one darker shaded.
"DAMN IT! WE WERE SO CLOSE! WE WERE SO, SO, SO CLOSE! WE SHOULD HAVE JUST EXECUTED THE EARL THEN AND THERE!" Claw screamed in anguish.
"This has become a lot more complicated now that she has the REAL artifact." The Duke muttered.
"How do we win? How do we take over the kingdom?" Claw wondered.
"We fight fire with fire." The Duke growled as he opened up the royal storybook and flipped through the pages before coming across a section with a picture of a dragon and a cauldron. He grinned maniacally before letting out a wicked laugh. "Or… magic… with magic." The Duke snickered.
