First Official Day Of School

Lisa and Rafael ended their romantic embrace when they heard Mal's voice.

"Haden Dear Brother," the Queen of Auradon was saying. "it's bedtime for you, you and Lisa have school in the morning."

"Oh, Mali," Rafael protested. "I'm not tired at all!"

Rafael just yawned, Mal could sense that he really was tired.

Seeing Rafael yawning made Lisa yawn too.

"It would seem to me that Rafael is not the only one who needs to hit the sack, Mal, Lisa does too." Ben observed.

"We had better be getting back to the dorms anyway." Stevie observed.

Back at Auradon Prep, Rafael had his Remedial Goodness 101 textbook in his hands.

When Mal took it away from him.

"Haden Dear Brother," the Queen of Auradon said again. "it's bedtime for you, you and Lisa have school in the morning."

"Oh, Mali," Rafael protested. "I'm not tired at all! And I need to study!"

"No Buts," Mal said to Rafael, giving him her patented don't-argue-with-me look. "you need your sleep, it's going to be a full day tomorrow! It's the day we have no free periods during the day!"

"You know, I still don't know how that happened." Rafael grumbled.

"Neither do I," Mal said. "And it's too late to play detective tonight! Now, go to bed!"

"Okay, okay," Rafael said, holding up his hands. "I'm going, I'm going!"

"Good, good night, Haden." Mal said before heading to her bedroom in Castle Beast.

Rafael slipped under his silk sheets and down comforter and quickly fell into a deep and peaceful sleep.

The next day in Remedial Goodness 101, Fairy Godmother was teaching her class.

When Phil and Liam started watching the clock.

All of a sudden, the clock went off, signalling the end of class.

"Finally," Phil said. "Liam and I have to go to tourney practice!"

"And I have to go to band practice!" Rafael exclaimed.

"I have painting practice with Queen Mal." Lisa said.

The Saddle Club and their boyfriends went their separate ways.

In band practice, Rafael was trying his best to play the harp, the musical instrument he was assigned to play.

But the harp's music was so soothing to Rafael that it was sleep inducing.

Doug nudge Rafael for the third time in as many as fifteen minutes.

"Rafael," Doug hissed, "wake up!"

"Sorry, sorry," Rafael said, sitting up fast and shaking his head to clear it. "every time I play a waltz on the harp, it makes me drowsy!"

"I noticed," Doug said to Rafael. "you're lucky the instructor didn't catch you!"

"Honestly, even if he did catch me dozing off, he couldn't do much more than wake me up and scold me a little," Rafael said. "I'm the only one in school this year that can play the harp!"

"What about Staci," Doug asked Rafael. "wasn't she suppose to play the harp too?"

"They put her on triangle," Rafael chuckled. "she was costing the school too much money on broken strings."

Staci was another new student who had signed up to join the school band.

Staci was sitting close enough to hear what Rafael said, she and Rafael didn't get along anyway, so when the instructor had to step out of the room for a minute to find a missing set of sheet music, she took advantage of the situation to start in on Rafael again.

"Watch it Romani Boy," Staci snapped. "if you get caught daydreaming, or falling asleep one more time the instructor might kick you out of band anyway and put me back on the harp."

"Don't bet on it, Miss fumble fingers!" Rafael retorted with a smirk. "the music department can't afford that many spare strings!"

"Why you little..." Staci snapped, starting to get up.

"Cool it Staci," her friend hissed. the girl that was sitting next to her. "the instructor's coming back!"

Staci knew better than to start something in front of the instructor so she sat back down.

"So, what should I do, Ronnie?" Staci asked.

"Play it smart," Staci's friend, Veronica Cooper whispered. "just sabotage him in the sneaky way just like you did his mousey little girlfriend in art class a few minutes ago!"

Neither one of them noticed the bespectacled boy that was sitting next to them holding a B flat cornett.

What did I just hear, Jason thought. We'll be getting our ten minute break in a couple of minutes, I'd better tell Rafael what I heard!"

After band class had ended, it was time for the students to have their ten minute break.

Jason knew that Rafael liked to hang out with Phil and Liam as well as the three girls in the Saddle Club out on the quad just before they got together with Carlos for their horseback riding lesson, so that was where he found the squad.

"Rafael," Jason asked. "could I have a word with you?"

"Sure," Rafael said, he nodded toward his girlfriend and the others, "you can talk freely in front of them."

"Okay," said Jason, "I just overheard Staci and her friend Ronni whispering together in band practice and Staci is up to something. Roni said something to Staci about sabotaging you the way they sabotaged Lisa in art class just before band!"

"What," said Rafael he immediately turned to Lisa. "do you know what Jason means by sabotage?"

Lisa swallowed the bite of sandwich she had in her mouth and was already scowling.

"I knew I measured out the right amount of paint thinner when I was doing my landscape," Lisa growled. "they must have added more paint thinner when I went into the supply room to replace a broken brush."

"Are you talking about the landscape where the paint ran and the whole thing turned into a smeared mess?" Rafael asked.

"That's the one," Lisa said. "I told Mal that somebody must have messed with my paints but she didn't believe me."

Lisa suddenly yawned.

"Are you feeling all right, Lisa?" Carole asked.

"I was up most of the night last night, painting a new one for the school art show!" Lisa said.

"We're going to have to keep an eye open for whatever they try to do to Rafael." Carole said.

Lisa nodded.

"And a little payback would be nice too." Stevie said with a slightly evil grin.
