A/N

Today the actual story starts, not just the prologue/intro things. And because I have my computer this time instead of writing on my phone at 2AM, then I can actually post the Pokémon sheets, so hurray for you for being able to actually take a look at what I'm working with as source material, plus the actual explanations of things happening with the plot starting to take place, this chapter is going to be much longer than the original, especially with all of the character sheet nonsense.

Also, in the future, chapters will try to be at least 3k words in length or around that range, and should be updated much faster now that I have more material to use (I'm literally writing these during the sessions so I don't miss anything particularly funny, a perfect line, etc)

Hopefully I'm not too boring with my rambling!

Chapter 1: Guess I need to explain some things

Arcane Trickster 3/Avatar of Giratina 3

This might be an issue.

Reading the effects of the subclass makes it seem less difficult than I thought. Like all trainer subclasses, the effects use the Wisdom modifier to determine how much one person could use the abilities, and the description lines up with how I expected it to

Avatar - Based on the lingering energy of a Legendary Pokémon somewhere in the world, a piece of it is placed inside of you, granting you an aspect of it's power. These range from gaining a typing, to a signature move, to a core ability. These features are decided based on the Legendary you take after and how much influence they have on the world. The stronger the legend, the stronger the features. These features are assigned at levels 3, 5, 9, and 15.

With Giratina as one of the strongest Legendries in the world, sitting as the god of antimatter and the only thing in the entire distortion world, the abilities I get should be pretty good, all things considered. The first one especially blows my expectations away.

Inverse - Using the connection you have with Giratina, you are able to summon the energy of the distortion world in order to influence the world around you. As a reaction, you can choose a Pokémon, all damaging moves involving that Pokémon for 1 round will have their type's weaknesses and resistances switched (EX: fire resists water, ground is weak to electric, ETC.) You may use this ability a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom modifier. At level 9, this effect moves from a Pokémon to a 60ft radius lasting 1 minute per use

If this is only the first thing that I get, I don't know what else I'll get, but I'm sure they'll be even better.

With the explaining of my core ability out of the way, we can explain everything else happening, because you still don't know what I look like and where I am. I'm pretty basic looking, all things considered for Pokémon, where people can have naturally purple hair or weird marks on their face (like who decided Ash would look like that), I'm a plain textbook Japanese kid. Short black hair, slightly small face, little on the shorter side at about 4'8", nothing special. Don't need glasses though, so that's something I have over the first me. Currently, as of noticing you, It is June 5th, 152 ALC (After League Creation), and 7AM in little 12 year old Aoi's tiny apartment in southern Jubilife. There are only 2 rooms, one being a bathroom with barely enough room for a toilet and shower, and the other containing everything else. All the essentials are here, stove, fridge, supercomputer for Roko, mattress on floor because I won't be here very long, poison lab, the works.

The supercomputer isn't important, what is are the poisons. After a while, I thought it would be nice to pick something up because I don't feel like spending money on things to do, but also can't train, so I took to making things that I thought would be helpful. The idea was to try to find a way to make potions before we started, saving a TON of money, but with all the bugs around eating every berry that I see in trees around the city, that idea wouldn't work. Plus by taking the Experimental Elixir spell I could make potions with magic pretty easily when there was nothing else to use spells on, so there wasn't really a point anyway. The bugs themselves gave me an idea, however. With all of the wild Butterfrees roaming around (apparently all of the dual shot mons are here), I was able to find plenty of basic powders from all of the bugs to try and enhance. so far, there have only been 2, but at least it's not nothing. There's a standard poison, and a paralytic one, with both having similar descriptions, aside from the effects.

Basic Poison (Common) - When coating a weapon and used, the target must make a Constitution save equal to the creators spellcasting DC, becoming poisoned on a failure. A poisoned target takes damage equal to their proficiency bonus at the end of each of their turns, as well as having disadvantage on all attack rolls and saving throws for 3 rounds. If the target fails the save by over 5, the damage is doubled and the condition is never automatically cured

Paralytic Poison (Common) - When coating a weapon and used, the target must make a Constitution save equal to the creators spellcasting DC, becoming paralyzed on a failure. A paralyzed creature has disadvantage on any Strength or Dexterity saving throws and moves at half speed, as well as having a 25% chance to be unable to move when it makes any action, freezing it in place for a round.

Useful for subduing targets non-lethally, but not much else. Moving away from the lab and into the tiny bathroom, I go ahead and shower for the day ... or however long I'm going to be in the wild for, gather all of my stuff and-

There's a knock on my door.

Nobody else lives on this floor, so let's do the logical thing, get the kill beast to open it.

"Vaike, go open the door!"

You would think that with only having swords for arms, my Scyther would be pretty bad at doing most things, but this guy routinely helps out in my lab. One creak later, and I don't know who that is. It's someone that looks feminine, but it's anime and current year so who knows, like a solid foot taller than me, which most adults are, and looks to be about 17-18, I can't tell. Looks like the first gen 5 protagonist, outfit wise, but the hair falls like Cynthia's does. It's also green, not neon green but like, pine needle green.

"Hello?, I was told there was someone here that went to the academy." She sounds concerned mostly, probably for the fact that most of the room is various computer bits and vials and shit, all very delicate with a sword bug in here.

I responded in the most mature way imaginable. With my back turned, huddled over a small wrist sided device, choosing not to respond until It's strapped onto my arm

"Yeah, who are you?"

"Isn't it rude to ask without introducing yourself"

"This is MY HOUSE, WHY ARE YOU HERE"

"I WANTED DIRECTIONS, I DIDN'T WANT TO WANDER AROUND ALONE AT 6AM"

True enough, let's tone this down a bit, I can see the noise complaints just thinking of a possible future where this conversation continued the way it does.

"Fair, anyways, name?"

"I'm Rita, I just ,oved here from Torren to escape all of the civil unrest and stuff going on. What else is there to know really? I took online classes for here because the education isn't that good and is 80% government propaganda anyways, so might as well ignore it, and this place seemed kinda shady coming here" she says to me while mostly making varied hand gestures that feel a bit too grandiose for explaining a backstory. but pop off I guess.

Okay with the exposition dump gone, a thought occurs. Torren is real, meaning Insurgence is somewhere in this world's timeline. A bit weird since some of the events in that game won't line up with the reality of now, especially with the Hisuian gods, but that's probably apart of the AU.

"Okay then 'Rita', what exactly do you want from me?" I decided to take the cautious approach, because If I know anything about D&D campaigns, this is going to go off the rails in one way or another, might as well be prepared for it.

With the most deadpan stare I have ever seen in either life, she responds with "Dude, if I'm someone to be suspicious of, you must be insane. You were literally too lazy to open a door on the other side of the room and thus made a Scyther do it. I'm impressed with the coordination of using a doorknob with no hands but still. Also, I told you, I'm lost, was told someone who knew where they were going was here, and thus took the advice and came to ask for help getting to the one place I need to for this entire schooling situation to work."

"Well I guess with a quest objective given and no reason to refuse because I need to get their eventually too, let's go. Vaike, Roko, we're headed out!" and with the two cries of my squad of eventual goobers and too much research on the type chart, we're ready to head out. While It's a bit early, being 12 and having one hobby that requires your neighbors be asleep as well as being a rogue, I wake up really early.

One transition later and we're here. A standard looking school. Seen literally any Academy in any anime, yeah, it's that, but like, a lot smaller. The basic design is the same, but it has at max like 100 kids in it, and even then, graduations and journeys start whenever someone has time to fill out the paperwork, register, take finals, and all that. With a 16 Intelligence I'm already in like the top 20% of people in the world, so it was more of a matter of Roko bullying me enough to actually start and seeing two other people ready to graduate I wasn't ready for yet. I haven't mentioned it yet, But I can see people's level and class, and the reason I was being suspicious was mainly because of Rita's class, or rather classes.

Tactician 3/Rogue 2

Other people, it seems, don't have the same leveling system as me, based on their Pokémon, instead, it's based on one's own skills. There were two people that I thought that I knew but couldn't place, until now when they finally got to level 3 on graduation day like I did

Jack Tungsten
Battle Master 3/Avatar of Dialga 3

Stone Shigihara
Fathomless Warlock 3/Avatar of Palkia 3

Now THIS is what I'm talking about! I remember these people, They're the other players!. Based on the fact none of us are interacting, I'll assume I'm the only one here that was me before (in hindsight, I am), but they should still have the personalities of the people they were based on, Meaning I'm not dealing with parts of a backstory I came up with in minutes or NPC's our DM made up, these are the closest thing that exists to people that I know, meaning I don't have to be suspicious of them. Hooray for metagaming.

The best part about this last day is the fact that we FINALLY GET TO FIGHT EACH OTHER, something about league regulations and making sure that our Pokémon know how to not kill each other, but strategy is kind of hard without something to strategize against. I get paired up with Rita, while Jack deals with some Josh guy with a Scraggy and Togedamaru, Pretty easy sweep considering he has the worlds strongest Pokémon.

That Pokémon, of course, is Wooper. He's got a Rufflet too, but it doesn't do much

Stone makes quick work of this Avery guy that only has birds, and Stone only has water types … I'm sensing a theme here.

After those two, it's my turn, and Rita sends out her two pokemon. We decided to do a doubles fight because wasting time with two 1v1s would be annoying. her two pokemon are also strangely rare? She has a Stufful, not that weird but in Torren and Sinnoh, those aren't native, but the other one is a little rarer, a Gible. Baby pseudos aren't rare because they don't pop up in the wild too often, only Dratini is really like that. They don't usually live long because generally they are eaten pretty quick by other Pokémon and each other to not deal with competition among dragons, and Beldum take about 10 years to be created, and the process was really only widespread about 5 years ago, so those facilities haven't started pumping out product yet. Goodra is the only one people would consider common, as well as maybe Baxcalibur, because they generally are non confrontational, but the rest, being dragons in mountains, tend to not live very long. Cynthia's Garchomp has really been one of about 5 ever found alive and tamed since I was born, so seeing one here is a bit suspicious.

Enough exposition tho, time for combat!

Initiative rolled!

Gible: 19+3=22!

Scyther: 14+5=19!

Stufful: 12+1=13!

Porygon: 9+3=11!

Gible used Sandstorm!

I visibly winced once that sand picked up. You see, the system of battles my world works on has some moves work wildly differently. Sandstorm is one of those moves. Here, It's better if I showed you

Sandstorm: You stir up a massive sandstorm in a 50 foot radius, centered on a point in range. When a non rock-, steel-, or ground-type creature enters the area for the first time on their turn, or begins their turn inside the area, they take an amount of rock damage equal to half your level, rounded up. The Sandstorm lasts for 5 rounds.

For a Pokémon quad weak to ground, that's a free 8 damage per turn, and for Vaike, that's 20% of his HP

Vaike LV3
Bug/Flying Type
Species: Scyther

HP:37
AC:16
Str:14

Moves: Quick Attack, Vaccum Wave, Silver Wind, Focus Energy
Abilities: Technician, Steadfast
Features: STAB (+1 to all damage rolls of attacks of the same type)
Loyalty: 1 (+1 to all saving throws)

"What?" Rita taunts from across the arena, "Getting scared yet?"

"Not at all! Just getting started!, now Vaike, get up, Vacuum Wave Stufful, and use the recoil to leave the sandstorm area!" Yeah you bitch, you thought I didn't know basic physics? Pushing yourself back when using a move is common, that's why most airborne Pokémon are generally very large, or shoot straight down, so they get pushed upwards.

Vacuum Wave: Roll to Hit

16+7=23, Critical hit! Super effective!
1D4(+4) x2
16 Damage!
Stufful HP, 19/35!

Best part about priority moves, you get to move again! "Now Focus Energy!" Honestly should have done that before, but we crit anyway, it doesn't matter.

"Stufful, Bind that Porygon!

Bind: Roll to Hit
9+5=14! Hit!
1D4+3+1

Roko HP: 39/44!
Roko is Restrained!

Roko is not having a good time, but there is a plan "Point blank Psybeam!" that plan is called kill it instantly!

Opponent is Confused!

I really thought that would do more, so I guess we're stuck here for a turn, that's not too fun. The confusion's nice, but not really that helpful, so I guess were back to the top of th-

-e initiative order, but I guess this is the tradeoff for having Pokémon that are too strong or too new to you, they have a chance to do whatever they want. In this case, that Dragon Rage was definably NOT what Rita wanted, as I can hear the swears from across the field berating the thing over the sandstorm it still has active, But it did some damage, even if Vaike completely dodged. Hopefully scanning the Gible can provide some answers with it's sheet.

Error, you are attempting to look at the sheet of a being stronger than you

Nevermind then. but at least with a 2v1, the odds should be better, right? especially with what I read about Roko.

"Goddamnit Gible, do what I want! You can't just spout out moves because you want to! this is a SERIOUS ISSUE!" And she's still going at it. It's a good thing I don't want to travel with you lady, I don't want season 1 Misty on my ass.

"Ay you good?" might as well pretend to be nice so I don't get flamed for attacking when someone "Isn't paying attention", like bitch please, that's a you problem.

"..."

"I'll take that as a yes! Anyway, Vaike, Vacuum Wave, then Silver Wind!"

Vacuum Wave: Roll to Hit
14+7=21! Hit!
1D4
4 Damage!
Gible HP: 34/38!

Silver Wind: Roll to Hit
14+7, Hit!
1D10+5+1
14 Damage!
Gible HP: 20/38!

Okay, we should be fine now, because Roko is here to KICK ASS! That Psybeam might have been weak, but the real deal, is that Tackle. At this thought you might be thinking "Aoi, You're an idiot. Sure Tackle does one extra damage, but it's power will make that +1 obsolete! Especially with this Pokémon that probably will take quite a bit of damage from being confused", and generally, you would be right. But this is not generally, because as I said, Download is BUSTED.

Download: Once per short rest, this Pokémon can choose a type. Until the end of combat, its Normal Type moves are that type

So all I need to do, is make Roko use an ICE Tackle, and we'll be good! "Roko, freeze a bitch!"

Tackle: Roll to Hit
17+5=22, Critical Hit, Super Effective (x2)
1D6+6+3+1 (x4)
56 Damage!
Gible HP: -36/38!

HOLY FUCK! If that thing had 1 less max HP it would be dead instantly! I knew Download was busted but OH MY SWEET GIRATINA! (It's MY patron deity, I can use it's name in vain if I want to!)

1130 XP Gained!
Roko has Leveled up!
Vaike has Leveled up!
