A/N- Thank you all for the reviews on the first chapter. I'm very happy that so far everyone seems to like the direction I'm heading with this. I hope I get the characters right...
3 Days Later
Tokyo Japan
Hawkeye had spent most of his time in Japan so far just wandering the streets, while he was waiting on Margaret to arrive there from the 8063rd, last he'd heard, they were just about done packing up the camp, and once done she'd be there. Not wanting to go back to his empty room, he just kept walking and thinking. As he thought back he remembered times in his past when he had been there with Henry Blake and Trapper, and all the fun they had at the time.
As he thought about that part in his life, it seemed like a lifetime ago, and the memories had no real value to him anymore, he was no longer the womanizer he was then. His heart now only belonged to a certain blond-haired nurse that he's left behind, if he was being completely honest with himself, his feelings had started to change a long time ago. Now thinking back, he knew he shouldn't have waited so long to tell her, he should have told her that night they'd spent in the hut being shelled.
Actually, as he started to think back, he knew he should have told her after they'd made the trip to the I-Company AID station that his feelings had changed toward her, he'd seen a new side to her, one that he found himself more drawn to, he saw her for the person she is, not the ARMY Major, but Margaret the woman. In some ways she reminded him of his mother, tough as nails when she had to be, yet soft and gentle.
As he continued to roam the streets, he kept thinking back to all the times they'd shared. The more he thought the more he found himself longing for her, he knew he couldn't waste any more time. The war had taken enough of that from him, well in reality from them. He wasn't going to lose anymore.
Suddenly he spotted a small jewelry store, he decided to walk in and just have a look around. As he browsed he spotted a simple rose gold ring, with red red rubies all around it. He smiled as he thought back to the red party, and the way Margaret had stood in front of him and defended him, this ring is perfect would be perfect for her.
"You see something you like?" An older lady working the store asked him.
"Yes in fact I do, I'll take this ring here." He said pointing to the rose gold ring in the case.
The older lady pulled out the ring and handed it over to Hawkeye for him to look at. As he studied it, he could picture it on Margaret's delicate hand, he could see her bright smile and the soft twinkle in her eyes. "I'll take it. Can you add an inscription?"
"Yes, what you like?"
Hawkeye thought for a minute, and suddenly a smile appeared "You'll always be my Major Baby,"
The shop lady gave him an odd look, "My girlfriend is a ARMY nurse. You know lady GI Joe."
"Ah, we have ready in 1 hour, pay now. 100."
Hawkeye smiled and nodded, pulling out his wallet and handing her over the money. He lingered around the shop while he waited for the ring to be ready. Normally an hour wouldn't seem like a long time, but when you've got nothing but time on your hands it can seem like an eternity. "Mister"
Hawkeye glanced over to the older lady and made his way back to her, She handed him the ring, and he looked inside just to check the inscription, after the last time he wanted to make sure the spelling was right. He smiled. "Madam this is perfect."
"Thank you, I put in box." The older lady pulled out a red velvet ring box, placed Margaret's ring inside, and handed it to Hawkeye, he slipped the box into his olive drab jacket pocket and made his way out of the small shop and back out onto the lonely streets of Tokyo.
Still thinking as he walked, if you'd asked him back at the beginning of the war, how fast he'd been ready to leave, he'd said lighting fast. Now here he was still in Asia waiting for the rest of his heart to come to him, not in a hurry to go home to his beloved Crabapple Cove. In fact, he wasn't in a hurry to go back to a lonely cold empty hotel room either, so he just aimlessly walked the streets, looking from shop to shop.
That was until he spotted a shop filled with kimonos, deciding to take a look, he walked inside. He just browsed around, until he spotted a lady's kimono that had Margaret's name written all over it, he picked up the silk garment taking in the bright pink, orange, and red designs, this made him think back to the colors in her tent at the 4077. It was perfect for her, now to find himself one, as he continued to look, he stopped when a royal blue and white one caught his eye, what luck, to find one that mirrors his beloved Hawaiian shirt. This will give Margaret a good laugh.
He continued his walk through the shop until he saw the baby-sized kimonos, he almost turned away from them. The sight was almost too much for him to take in. For a brief moment he flashed back to the woman and baby on the bus, he shook his head trying to clear the image, then suddenly the image was replaced with Margaret holding the baby girl that had been left at the 4077. For some reason this image calmed his mind, seeing Margaret holding the baby girl set his mind at peace.
Deciding to do something bold, he went over and picked out 2 baby-sized kimonos, one that would be suitable for a girl and one suitable for a boy, pleased with his purchases, he made his way to the women at the counter and paid for his purchase. Taking his package with him, he left the shop and walked back to his hotel.
Imperial Hotel
Tokyo Japan ( Hawkeyes Room )
Margaret had arrived earlier in the day, and stopped at the desk asking for Captain Benjamin F. Pierce's room, ( just like he'd told her to back at the 8063rd ) The woman behind the desk, handed her a key to the room informing her the room was on the 10th door and telling her the number, Margaret thanked the woman and went up to Hawkeyes room.
When she got there she thought about just letting herself on inside, but then decided to knock first, "Hawkeye are you there?" No response. So she knocked a little louder the second time. Still nothing, so she took out the key from her pocket and unlocked the door letting herself in.
As she walked through she looked around half expecting to find the room trashed the way they kept the Swamp, but to her amazement, the room was neat and clean, nothing was thrown around, in fact, it looked like it had hardly been stayed in, the only real signs of a person was Hawkeyes olive green suitcase, laying open on a nearby small sofa.
She went over and pulled out his red bathrobe, closing her eyes as she held it up to her nose, letting the scent that is uniquely Hawkeye take over her. For a minute she was whisked back to the 4077th, and all the times he'd been in post-opp, wearing his robe as he stood over her reading a chart. So many times she had wanted to grab him and push him up against the wall and have her way with him.
She slowly opened her eyes and started to replace the robe back in his case, but then she changed her mind. Instead, she took it with her as she made her way to the bedroom, deciding she'd take a quick bath before Hawkeye got back. Making short work of her Class A's she tossed them on the bed and headed into the small bathroom.
Once she got settled in the cozy tub, she allowed her mind to drift off to a former draftee surgeon, and back to the 4077th and the many times she'd been showering and had dreamed of him walking in on her, wrapping his arms around her wet naked body caressing her in all the right places, there had been many times she'd been so aroused by the just the thought of him, she ended up having to give herself relief just so she would be able make it back to her lonely tent.
Every once in a while she would even find herself thinking back to their first time in that abandoned hut, she'd known after that he was it for her, no other man would ever be able to come close to completing her again, but when he pulled away part of her heart broke, and so she snapped back into Major Houlihan.
The cold water brought her back to reality, so she reached forward and pulled the plug from the tub, and gracefully stood up and reached for a big white fluffy towel so she could dry her wet body. Out of the corner of her eye, Hawkeye's red robe caught her attention, dropping the towel she picked up the robe slipping into it, and pulling it tight around her, she turned her head and inhaled Hawkeye's scent.
His robe felt perfect wrapped around her, it almost felt like having his skilled arms and hands around her, just like he did in that hut, as he held her tight. Hearing the door open made her jump, she raced out of the bathroom to see who had just entered the room. She stopped dead in her tracks as her eyes met his for the first time in 3 long days.
She blinked away the tears that had started to fall as she ran to him pushing him up against the door, and kissing him with everything in her, Hawkeye responded by deepening the kiss, just as he had three days earlier, only this time, time would be on their side, after a few minutes of intense kissing they finally broke apart.
This was when Hawkeye noticed what Margaret was wearing, his entire face broke out in a huge smile. "My dear, my robe has never looked as good as it does right now."
Margaret blushed. "Can't you for once be serious!"
"Of course." With that, he picked her up and headed straight for the bed.
