As the gates of Moria opened they noticed how dark and musty it was and how cold and empty it seemed.

Gimli was too enthralled with stories he had been told and promised that he couldn't see what even his king behind him could see.

Elizabeth could feel the despair and pain that echoed in the walls something bad had happened and she had a feeling they had lost three of their family.

"Soon master elf you will enjoy the fabled hospitality of the dwarves. Roaring fires, malt beer, and red meat off the bone. This my friend is the home of my cousin Balin, and they call this a mine, a mine," Gimli guffed as he walked forward.

Elizabeth shared a look with Thorin knowing it wasn't going to be good and discretely ushered her six boys together. Frodo, Merry, Pippin, and Sam in the middle surrounded by her, Thorin, Kili, and Fili.

Gandalf chose that moment to light his staff the glow illuminating the part of the cavern where they stood.

They all gasped in shock, Kili's jaw dropped at the bodies of his fellow dwarves strewn across the floor. Thorin could tell they were old, not as old as his battle here, but old enough that they had gathered dust and cob webs. They hadn't survived long after entering the mines.

"This is no mine it's a tomb,"

"Oh no, no, no," Gimli cried out as Legolas yanked a arrow out of a nearby body to get a idea what they were facing.

"Goblins," he spat out in disgust as he threw the arrow to the floor giving his cousin a look to be prepared.

Elizabeth nodded to Legolas and turned to her family.

"My lads I don't know what we can expect, we know there are goblins living in these mines so I need you to keep a eye on sting ok Frodo,"

"Yes Lizzie," Frodo understood knowing if they were close he would have a warning sign to give them the best shot at a advantage that they could get.

Everyone around them drew their swords and started to back up towards the door.

"We make for the gap of Rohan, we never should have come here," Boromir used their current situation as a good reason to point out they should have listened to him in the first place.

Suddenly Frodo is pulled to the ground causing Kili to shout to get his family's attention. Elizabeth and Thorin's heads turned quickly cause it wasn't often that Kili yelled out in situations.

That's when they noticed a long sinuous tentacle wrapped around the ankle of Frodo dragging him towards the lake.

Frodo cried out next causing Aragorn and Boromir's heads to spin around next and together the four of them rushed forward to save him.

As they all hacked at the tentacle it was Aragorn who managed to get the right blow to it severing it freeing Frodo and pulled him to safety.

Boromir continued to hack at the other withering limbs when suddenly twenty more limbs came flying out of the water towards them all.

The creature that emerged from the water behind the limbs lashed out at the fellowship managing to knock most of them backwards, including Aragorn allowing it the chance to capture Frodo once again.

"Kili shoot it!," Elizabeth yelled out to her nephew to use his bow.

The creature pulled Frodo out towards the lake again this time dangling him in the air upside down bringing the fight outside.

As Kili shot at the creature along with Legolas everyone else hacked at the tentacles trying to get it to release Frodo.

Aragorn managed to hit the right blow to a tentacle causing the creature to drop Frodo thankfully right into Boromir's arms.

"Into the mines!," Gandalf yelled out trying to get them to a somewhat safe place.

"Legolas!," Boromir called out to get his attention.

Legolas shot a final arrow into the creatures head gaining a few vital seconds for everyone to race out of the water.

The fellowship rushed into the mines making it just as the creature grasped the doors of the mine crumbling them into a rock slide casting them into darkness.

Gandalf relit his staff to give them some light as everyone rested for a moment to catch their breath and put away their weapons.

Elizabeth had already done so and was on her knees hugging Frodo happy he was safe.

Frodo hugged her back knowing he would always be safe with her around. He also knew now that the dwarves he had become close to were even beloved by him.

"We now have but one choice we must face the long dark of Moria. Be on your guard, there are older and fouler things than the orcs in the deeps of the world."

Thorin helped Elizabeth up and as she brushed off her knees she noticed that all their boys shuffled closer to her and him.

As they made their way through the door to the next chamber they came upon a bridge in which Thorin went first, their boys between them, and Elizabeth at the end. They were being extra cautious now she had told Bilbo she would protect Frodo and she refused to break her word to him.

Thorin was uneasy going further in the mines, part of him had spent many years wondering what it looked like inside, but now after seeing their kins bodies and dealing with the creature he just wanted to take his family and whisk all seven of them out of here with him.

As they crossed the bridge Gandalf spoke up to warn them as if they didn't know the place was dangerous.

"Quietly now it's a four day journey to the other side. Let us hope our presence will go unnoticed."

They made their way through passageway after passageway and the deeper they went the more they all grew more on edge of the shadows around them.

The next section of the mines they entered Thorin's heart dropped it was basically a graveyard. There were dwarf bodies strewn about, goblin graffiti scrawled on monuments in dried blood. The whole area broke not only his heart but also Elizabeth, Kili, Fili, and Gimli's.

As they exited that section of the mines they came upon a platform that had three separate paths attached to it. Gandalf looked confused and so the fellowship hunkered down to rest briefly, keeping their guards up, but trying to recharge their energy for the long journey ahead. They knew they would need to rest as often as they could it wasn't going to be a easy journey.
