Somewhere outside of Wakefield, a bunch of wretches were gathered around on top of a gas station. One of them flew down to join the group. A red one screeched at the newcomer, who flew away. It screeched right back before seeing a little monster to chase after for lunch. A hand stomped on the creature, the wretch looking up to see King Wretch. It picked up the creature and then ate it whole. It then grabbed the wretch, flying into the air. The gray wretch screeched in protest, but King Wretch swooped down to toss it on top of a car. King Wretch approached the others, landing on the gas station and the other creatures flew away in fear. King Wretch let out a screech, seeing the lights coming from Joe's Pizza.

The zombies were still heading towards them from all over town.

Jack was playing Space Marauders, smiling as his character touched something to make it explode. "Dudes, how fun is this? Being pals, being pals together, just us, no adults or other supervisors." However, he was playing the game by himself using his feet, slicer, and hockey stick.

Quint was wearing a welder's mask, lifting it up. "Quint!" Jack peeked in to see him and May together. "I'm coming up on the Martian Breakdancer. Need buddy backup for the boss. Come on, time to have fun!"

"I am having fun," He smiled at his best friend. "May's here, that's...all the fun I need." He rubbed his neck and she blushed, looking away with a smile. "And when we're done having fun here, I'm gonna have fun refueling the generator. The same generator somebody left on all night."

"One can only wonder why," May raised an amused brow.

Jack's eyes widened as he glanced around, laughing nervously. "Plus, there's the new electric Zom-B-Gone devices I'm supposed to set up on the perimeter of the town square," He held up a long stick with a purple bulb on top.

"Um, actually, Quint and May's first priorities are fixing the radio," June walked up to them.

"Oh, right," Quint pointed at her with a smile.

"We haven't forgotten," May held up her hands in defense, backing away with Quint. She then leaned into his ear. "I'm all the fun you need, huh?"

"Heh heh..." He blushed in embarrassment as she just smiled happily.

"June, what say we take the firetruck for a spin?" Jack offered with a grin. "Hose down some dozers, scare wretches with the siren. That's first class fun."

"Fun? Jack, that siren is like a dinner bell for the zombies," She retorted, gesturing to outside. "Besides, I gotta help with the radio," She stepped up to her friends. "What do you need, guys? You name it—I'm your gal!"

"Maybe just...leave?" Quint shrugged uncertainly, May wincing. He pressed his hands together pleadingly. "For a couple of hours, so we can really focus."

"Um, yeah, we don't need a tense environment, right?" May laughed nervously as in reality, they didn't want June to be hovering over them.

"You got it, buddies! You need anything, I'll be right outside." She hummed awkwardly as she backed away and then flinched, realizing something. "Hey, wait a minute, if you need to really focus, wouldn't May break that?"

"What?" Quint flinched in surprise while blushing. "W-What are you talking about?"

"You know, since May is just so-"

"Heh heh, leave, leave now," Quint pushed her away gently. He turned around to May, who had a hand on her hip with a knowing smile. "I admit to nothing," He said quickly to her and they got back to work.

Dirk smacked down something with a mace. "Okay. Come on, Dirk!" Jack smiled from behind, the boy glancing to him. "You and me, bud. Forget these losers."

"Not a loser for missing my parents!" June retorted as she sharpened her staff from out the window.

"May's not a loser either!" Quint called out.

"I don't care what he calls me, but leave me out of it!" May chimed in.

"Uh, no can do, Jack. Gotta show these monsters I got what it takes," He spun the mace again. "Diiiirk Monsterrrr!" He smashed another robot to bits. Jack glanced between all four of his friends, groaning sadly. They used to hang out all the time, but now it was like they were too separated from each other...

As video game characters, they walked through the streets together. Suddenly they were approached by a bunch of zombies. Dirk powered up as a purple Hulk-like monster. He slammed the ground to knock the zombies away. Then some monsters approached them. "I'm going with you guys!" He high-fived them before leaving, to the shock of Jack.

"Next contestant: the radio!" Quint announced and it immediately stomped on Jack. Then the other three left with the radio, leaving Jack dazed and alone.

He frowned bitterly at their distractions as they were barely taking any breaks to have fun. "Look at you!" He suddenly exclaimed to them. "You're all...working. Doing homework. I mean, the whole point of the apocalypse is that we never have to do homework again."

"Wait, you think the point of the apocalypse is that we never have to do-"

"I didn't wanna have to do this," Jack interrupted a baffled Quint. "But..." He then played a record, getting a soap box to stand on. "Starting now, this is gonna be the Funpocalypse! And I, Jack Sullivan of House Tree, first in my name, am keeper of the fun. And I will show you the way!"

Everyone went back to what they were doing, much to his dismay. "Or at least a five minute break?"

They all paused again to stare at him and June smiled, jumping through the window. "Okay, Jack, but only five minutes."

"Let the Funpocalypse begin!" Jack ran out with his helmet on.

"Five minutes!" June cheered as the others followed after them, also wearing helmets.

"Dirk Monster! Five minute break!" Dirk growled out in a monster way. Jack grabbed the zipline, the others doing the same while laughing happily. One by one, they landed in their BoomKarts. Once they were ready, they took off down the street.

They ended up going to mini-golf, June shooting a golf-ball slingshot to the flag, but didn't get it into the hole. "Ha-ha!" She bragged, watching Quint use a divider on the ground. He stood up and licked his thumb, feeling the wind. He then fired his own golf ball. It hit the flag, a roof, a windmill, and then Rover's head before rolling down to get a hole in one. Everyone cheered at this, May hugging Quint from behind. Suddenly the ground opened up underneath to reveal a monster. It then started shooting golf balls at them and they ducked their heads. They all protested as they ran off.

The five then drove their BoomKarts around, Dirk wincing as he made a jump, laughing when he landed it. He went up another ramp...only to be met with an monster opening its mouth. He let out a scream. "Rocket booster!"

He used a button to make his cart go faster, and it hit the top of the monster. He then rolled down the monster's back and continued driving. The monster roared, letting out a small painful whine before disappearing.

They all headed back and parked their carts at Joe's Pizza. "Keeper of the fun has kept the fun," Jack smiled while tossing his helmet away. "Only 19 more activities to go before we all reach Funpocalypse level 1."

"No, break time's over," June walked past him.

"Back to the radio!" Quint added in.

"And the Zom-B-Gone too," May held up a finger.

"Gotta get my reps in," Dirk smiled while walking past.

"But...if I can't show them how fun things are now, they're...just gonna leave," Jack lamented sadly, looking towards the ground.

"Step aside, flesh bucket," Chef pushed past him. "Biggun, trash time!" He tossed some bags into the dumpster. Jack watched as the giant monster picked up the dumpster, gasping. Biggun then tossed it into the air, and it made him then of shotput, which Biggun would obviously win.

"Yeah!" He cheered the monster on while clapping. "Uh, hold up, guys!" He called out to his friends climbing the ladder to the treehouse. "I saved the best for last," He climbed up the monster. "Don't put down your fun...sticks just yet."

"Fun sticks?" June looked up at the others in confusion.

"When did we get fun sticks?" Dirk furrowed his eyebrows, looking up at Quint and May. "Quint, May, did you guys steal my fun stick?"

"You know what, it's not even worth questioning," May shook her head at the term.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls!" Jack announced to everyone. "Monsters and uh...more monsters. Today is the first annual Apocalympic Tournament Games. The battle of the century, monsters vs humans. It shall be a test of brains!" Quint glanced back at that. "A test of monstrous ability!" Dirk turned around in interest. "A test of strategy and agility." June walked up next. "A test of durability!" May looked up at him and he looked up pleadingly at his best friend. "Right, Quint?"

"...Um, J-Jack may be right. If I don't get an extended break, fatigue might set in. I could make a mistake," June looked at him skeptically. "The radio could...explode?"

"What? Really?" She hugged herself in doubt, Quint winking at Jack.

"Yeah, we don't want that, do we?" May placed her hands on June's shoulders from behind. Quint smiled widely, nodding at June.

"Well, if it'll help with the radio. Also, I'm gonna seriously dominate," She grins while punching her fists together.

"Yes! We've got our human team. And monsters, it'll be great! We can blow off steam, improve human-monster relations, a-and totally have fun."

"Fun is for meat bags like you and your hairless monster wannabe," Chef jerked a thumb to Dirk, who looked offended.

"So then don't participate, no one is asking you," May retorted back to him, her arms crossed. Bardle then stepped up in front of the crowd.

"I find my time better spent exploring the mysteries of the mind-body connection."

"Oh, guys, come on!" Jack tried to encourage them.

"Uh-huh? What's in it for us if we win?"

May rolled her eyes at Chef's question. Of course he would want something valuable to get involved in this. "Oh, um, you get...all the glory?" Jack rubbed the back of his neck.

"Yes! Glory!" Skaelka cheered while waving her axe. "I am in."

"Glory? Is that all?" Chef just laughed as some monsters already started leaving. "I already got a bunch of glory."

"Uhh, you get the glory—wait, don't leave! You get, uh..." He slid down Biggun's arm to land in the dumpster. "Hang on, hang on. Incentive pending. Ta-da!" He held up a trophy...which consisted of a gnome, blender, and plunger. "And you get this super special and rare tournament trophy." The hat of the gnome popped off to emphasize how trashy it was. He picked it up and put it back on.

"...I will kill for that trophy!" The little pink monster shouted eagerly, the monsters all running forward and tackling him for it. Biggun just grunted at this.

"You said it, Biggun. I'd rather swallow a flaming toilet than hang with humans. But that trophy, it will be mine!"

Jack crawled out of the heap while still holding the trophy. "You wanna do the honors?" He held out the trophy to them.

"Oh, yeah!" June ran over and slammed a button from the jukebox. "Let the opening ceremonies..."

"Biggun!"

Jack and Quint gasped, earning a laugh from him as everyone cheered.

Jack hollered while running over with a flame. Chef gave him some thumbs down, and Biggun lifted him up. He attempted to light a tub on fire, and nothing happened. That was until it exploded to give it flame. The generator was on full blast as it lit up everything. However, that just gave the zombies more of a hint to where they were.

"And in our first competition, it's the three-legged jump and stomp," Jack announced while being recorded. June and Dirk were against Chef and the monster with a mouth for a chest. A monster waved behind Jack.

"You're going down," June jeered at them.

"Bring it, human scum."

A monster held up an arm and then blew the whistle. "And they're off!" Jack shouted as the two teams started walking. "Coming in from behind, it's a late entry." A tiny monster slipped past them and crossed the finished line. And because he only had three legs, that supposedly counted. "And it's won the race!"

"No fair! Someone check the rule book," June protested before she and Dirk fell to the ground.

"And for the 100-yard hurdles, it's monster vs master, with Rover against Jack," Quint was the next announcer and the whistle was blown. "There's the whistle!" Rover just scratched himself a bit.

"Does he even know what's going on?" May raised a brow, standing next to Quint. Rover took off a few seconds later.

"And Jack tries valiantly to run the Apocalypse Gauntlet of Doom!" Quint said next as Rover ran right past him.

"Oh, but Rover takes the lead from Jack!" May pointed at him, smiling as she was having fun.

"Wait, what's Rover doing? He's running in circles. He's all over the park!" Rover knocked down every single part of the obstacle course, seeming to not care about the race anymore. "And Jack is using this to his advantage." Jack jumped over some trash cans but then slipped and fell into the mud. "Oh, no!"

"And Rover's taken back the lead!" May gasped as Rover went past him and crossed the finish line.

"It's all over! It's all over!" Quint shouted as that was another win for the monsters.

June and Skaelka were up against each other next. Both of them glared at each other before the whistle was blown again. Both of them ran off at the same time.

"And it's June vs Skaelka in this slice and dice," Dirk stated as they jumped on tables. They both flipped into the air and sliced off hanging watermelons. Once they landed, they jumped onto some skateboards. "They're goin', and they're slicin'." The monsters cheered on their comrade. "And, uh..." The two sliced through watermelons while skateboarding. "I don't have to keep jabbering, you can all see what's happening, right?" The two laid down as they kept slicing, and some of it landed on June. She licked her lips with a smile. Both of them jumped off and sliced again. "It's a tie!"

"Up next, the human hurling competition," Quint announced next to the monster with the chest mouth. "Globlet is up first!" All his friends were wrapped up in blankets, also wearing helmets. Globlet, the little pink monster heaved up June in her hands. She tossed her a short distance. "And it's a valiant attempt."

"Up next, Skaelka!" Skaelka kicked up May, spinning her around before using her axe to swing her a bit father. "And we've got a successful attempt!"

Biggun picked up Dirk and Jack, who glanced to each other nervously. "Up next..." Biggun tossed them a farther distance.

"And Biggun makes a totally awesome throw, seriously putting him in the lead!" Bellybuster announced, Dirk and Jack screaming as they spun around into a pile of boxes.

"Ugh! How are we even supposed to score in this game?" Dirk complained as they were the ones getting thrown. June and May screamed before landing in the pile as well, a bit dizzy.

"I have no idea," Jack said in dismay.

The whistle was blown, all the monsters watching as Quint participated in a game of tic-tac-toe. He tossed a tire while Chef tossed a hammer and a wrench. "This is very intense, folks," June said into the microphone. "Quint could take this."

The monster announcer spoke in a language that she was somehow able to understand. "You said it, buddy." Quint tossed another tire, but Chef grabbed it with his tail and then tossed everything away before the boy could win. "Wow, uncool!"

"Cheater!" May growled while clenching her fists, the monster pulling out the tire in his mouth.

"Welcome back!" Skaelka was the next announcer as the five friends where playing dodgeball. "Muddy dodgeball in an art museum is in full swing." The points right now were 6 for monsters...and one for humans. The referee got hit with a balloon full of mud before he could blow the whistle. Dirk tossed one, ducking from another. June rolled on the floor, rolling a balloon to Jack. He tossed it with his hockey stick. May loaded up Quint as he used a slingshot. May then backflipped, doing a cartwheel in the air before throwing one.

A three-headed monster dodged the ammo before him and Bellybuster got hit. "Oh, that's gotta hurt!" Jack and Quint cheered while high-fiving each other. "Right in the kisser!" A monster with a giant nose started firing rapidly, and Quint was hit with them first. Then Jack and Dirk went down next. "Oh, the humanity!"

June and May realized there were the only ones left. "Ha! Still standing!" She bragged and May leaned in.

"Not really something you wanna announce in a game of dodgeball."

June was then pulled down into the mud by Jack, laughing and putting some on his face. May smirked in amusement before Quint grabbed her arm and pulled her down. She yelped and then giggled as her clothes got stained. If they were still in school, she would've freaked out.

"Time for a real crowd favorite," Quint announced as the next game was a pizza-eating contest. "The pie-eating contest. Pizza pie, that is." He and May were sitting this one out because they'd no doubt get sick. Chef blew the whistle. "And there is the-" He paused as Biggun took the table...and ate all of it himself.

Dirk's stomach growled as he whined, considering he was ready to eat. "Does that count?" May raised a brow while glancing at Quint.

So far, the two teams had gained one point each. Tug-of-war was next, humans against monsters. And the five were pulled forward almost immediately, Biggun leading the pull as they all fell onto the grass. June gave out an exasperated breath, since the last two times gave the monsters a big advantage, literally so.

"Okay, hold on. Time out," She called out, storming over to them. "I'm sick of losing. These teams aren't fair. We gotta mix 'em up, monsters and humans together. Come on, Biggun!"

He seemed to agree as he walked over to join their team. "Even better for promoting harmony!" Jack exclaimed happily at this.

"Oh, I'm going over there!" Dirk immediately rushed over to be with the monsters. May rolled her eyes in amusement.

"I still don't approve of this, but if a temporary truce between this meat bag and me means we get that trophy, I'm in," Chef reluctantly agreed with the idea. "I'd eat my own mother for that thing," He eyed the trophy from a few feet away. "I mean, I already ate my own mother," He laughed while rubbing his hands together. "But I'd do it again."

Next was June and Jack playing chicken while riding monsters. Both of them battled each other using cushioned sticks, wearing helmets. Dirk hopped onto a monster, as did Quint and May. They all battled against an opponent, but Biggun used a tree and knocked someone back. Quint and Dirk fought each other, Jack looking around and smiling at how much fun everyone was having.

Later on, the games had concluded as they approached the eating area. "You were right, Jack, that was fun. And I did need a break," Quint gave him a small smile.

"Well, it's not over yet!" Jack held up the trophy, standing in front of the fire. "And now, it's time to award today's Tournament Games Trophy!" Everyone cheered at his announcement, but then Skaelka noticed something while sitting on Biggun.

"Human Dirk!" She called out to him. "Do you see?"

He got onto Biggun's hand, who brought him up for a closer look. Up ahead were the zombies... "Uh-oh..." He murmured in dismay, Skaelka pointing to the left.

"Look!" More zombies approached from that direction. "Behind us, too!" He gave a worried look and then looked down at his friends.

"Guys! Tons of zombies are closing in on all sides!" He shouted to the four. Jack looked up ahead to see why.

"It's the lights. They see all the lights!" He exclaimed in a panic.

"Turn the generator off. Now!" June ordered Quint and May.

"Too late. They're already here!" Dirk told her and she gasped.

"Turning off the generator now would do nothing, one of them is bound to get a closer look!" May gestured to one side street of zombies.

"We gotta protect the town, the tree house, the radio!" June said in determination as Skaelka jumped off Biggun.

"We will surround the town square and hold them back!"

"Sounds like a job for me and the monsters," Dirk boasted, holding up his hand for Biggun to give him a thumb-five.

"That's great, but you can't hold them off forever," June caught her spear from the air as one of the monsters had grabbed it for her.

"No, they can't, but remember that monster skeleton I found, uh, that repelled the zombies. What if we used that somehow?" He wondered to the two. Quint was searching one of the BoomKarts for something.

"Yeah, May and I can combine that with the Zom-B-Gone torches to really keep those zombies at bay," He handed Jack his backpack. "Which is what I should've been doing today instead of playing around!"

"No time for this!" May ran over to the two.

"It's not your fault, and it's not too late," Jack smiled in assurance. "We can do this!" May ran around them and pushed them over to the three. All of them cheered as they worked together.

Quint and Jack rode Rover down the street. "Back to the woods, Rover!" The latter called out while the dog-like monster jumped on a car to get to the roof. As they headed down the street, the zombies headed for Joe's Pizza. May, June, Dirk, and the monsters stood ready to fight.

"For glory!" Skaelka cried out, May gripping her shovel claws tight.

Jack, Quint, and Rover made it into the woods, seeing the skeleton they found earlier that day. "There it is!" He slid down the monster and sniffed the air. "Oh, yeah, that's the stuff. Ugh, smells like boiled Brussels sprouts," He waved a hand in front of his face.

Quint put something over his head and then tossed a mask to Jack. "Use this filtered mask." Jack raised a brow as it was in the likeness of a clown, and Quint was wearing one too that sorta looked like a knight. "I keep them handy for...you know."

Quint was reading a book in the tree house while May was asleep next to him. She hummed a bit as she let her head fall and land on Quint's shoulder. He flinched and then smiled down at her, resting his cheek against her head while closing his eyes.

"Quint!" He flinched as Dirk was kind of ruining the moment. "Your turn to empty the toilet bucket!" Dirk rolled it down and Quint sighed. He gently placed May down so that she was laying on her side. He started sobbing as he held up the mask.

"Do you cry often?" Jack wondered as he put the mask on.

"Often is such a subjective word," Quint argued while tossing Jack his backpack. "And don't tell May either."

"You really think I wanna embarrass her?" Jack scoffed, waving it off. "Trust me, you have my word." They suddenly heard something and flinched. "What was that?" They heard it again and pinned it down to a moving bush. "Over there!"

However, it was just a spider-like thing and they sighed in relief. Then the two laughed awkwardly that they were scared by it. "Aww," Jack cooed down at it.

"You know what? He's kinda cute," Quint commented before it revealed a longer body.

"Um, Quint?" Jack asked nervously as they looked down at it.

"Jack, he's not cute. I take it back!" The spider was revealed to be a large centipede/snake thing that started wrapping around them.

"It's like one of those magician scarves that they pull out of their mouths that never end," Jack said in fear, Rover coming up behind them. "The Spide-apede! Billion legs, poison-dripping mandibles, longer than the longest wiener dog. Could be bad." The Spide-apede lunged forward when suddenly smoke appeared between it and the three. "Huh?" Once the smoke cleared, they saw a familiar face.

"Bardle!" Quint exclaimed in relief.

Bardle brought his hands together, blowing something out. It was a small purple orb that exploded into smoke once it touched the giant monster. Then it retreated as it didn't want to be hit again. "How many points is that worth in your tournament?" He glanced back at the boys.

"Points? I thought you weren't into the tournament games," Jack stated in confusion.

"I prefer real stakes over sport," Bardle raised a brow while turning around to them. "This is much more my idea of fun."

"You're having fun? Like, right now?" Jack was even more confused since Bardle didn't really show any emotion.

"Huge amounts of it," He grimaced at the boy.

"Oh," Jack scratched the side of his head. "It's just hard to tell with your face being all...Bardle-y."

"It is the face I was hatched with," Bardle narrowed his eyes in defense. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Jack turned to the skeleton.

"There's the carcass, but why does it look like it's... wiggling?" The four all stared at it as it was actually moving, and tiny bugs crawled out of it. They looked like the same ones that destroyed June's house. "Oh, enough with the bugs already!" Jack exclaimed in dismay at this.

"And on the one day I forget my bug zapper!" Quint scolded himself, clenching his fists.

Meanwhile, the others were battling off zombies to their best ability. Biggun hit some with his club, Globlet bouncing around and knocking them down. June pushed one back with her spear. "So! Everything is going according to plan!" She called out to Dirk and May, spinning around and knocking down a zombie. "Gotta work together!"

"Right," Dirk pushed one down. "Like the tournament games. June and Chef, chicken fight!"

"Go eat your head, skin monkey," Chef lightly pushed away a zombie with his bare hands, May giving him a 'really' look.

"Did you get up on the wrong side of the cave today, or what?" June asked, also a little annoyed with him. She pushed another zombie back with her spear.

"No, I just don't like that human," He explained himself, punching a zombie.

"What about me?" June turned him with narrowed eyes. "Or even May?"

"Oh, I don't like you both either, just less than I don't like him," Chef jerked a thumb to Dirk, who looked a little disappointed. May just raised an eyebrow.

"Thanks...?" She asked slowly, not really knowing how to react to that.

"Good enough for me. Come on," June used her spear to lift herself up onto Chef's back. June held out her spear to May, who gripped it and let the girl throw her up into the air. She backflipped and landed behind June, who knocked away zombies with the spear. Chef pushed past them, May punching several zombies away.

Dirk ran up to Biggun. "Biggun, you're up! Human hurling!" He ran up to Biggun, who picked him up using the mace and tossed him towards some zombies. He knocked them all down, managing to not get himself bit. Skaelka kicked away a zombie and then held out her hand to Dirk.

"Strong strategy, Human Dirk."

He chuckled as he took her hand, gasping at something up ahead. Biggun was surrounded by zombies, June pulling out the walkie talkie. "Jack, we can't hold them off forever. The line will fall. Dark armies will march across the land. I'm running out of intense things to say!"

"June, this is for your own good," May patted her shoulder and then smacked June up against the head.

"Ow! Oh...I actually needed that. Thanks," June said as she was a little more calm now.

"Please tell me you're on your way back before she gets carried away again," May spoke into the walkie talkie, which was on the ground near Jack.

"Be right there, girls," He attempted to reach for it while they were still dealing with the bugs "And just in time to make a joke about us having our own problems!" He yelled out while the bugs kept dragging him back. Rover jumped away and landed on some, but it wasn't enough.

"Jack, what do we do?" Quint asked in a panic while the bugs grabbed his arms. Jack sliced at them while Bardle used his magic to keep them away.

"Don't you have anything else in your utility belt, Bardle-man?" He called out, trying to fend off the bugs. Bardle briefly looked over his shoulder.

"Indeed. This is no longer fun."

Meanwhile, June elevated herself using the staff and spun around, kicking down all the zombies. Globlet was actually throwing her around on the staff, leaping off and landing. She glanced back with a smile. "Thanks, Globlet!"

Dirk threw a zombie over his shoulder, Skaelka jumping onto his back to knock one down with her axe. Both her and Dirk pushed some back together.

Biggun picked up May and tossed her up into the air. She spun around in a circle while her shovel claws were out, allowing her to knock down a whole circle of zombies. She landed on her hands and rolled back onto her feet.

June tossed one to Chef, who threw the zombie away with his spatula. However, there were just too many of them. "Uh-oh! We really need some backup!"

Jack and Quint both had bugs crawling all over their bodies, trying to get them off. They both yelped, Bardle floating in the air while crossing his legs. He picked one up and put it into his hands. He then blew some purple smoke, dispelling all of the bugs.

"Wow, he is a wizard!" Jack said in awe while Bardle put up a shield to protect them.

"Quickly, get the bones!" He told the boys, who ran for the skeleton.

"Score! Let's beat it!" They tried pushing it, but it was too heavy for them.

"We should make haste," Bardle removed the shield, and all of the bugs went limp. "Zombies are not patient." Suddenly the skeleton started moving, alarming all of them.

"I have an idea!" Jack spoke up to everyone.

"Human June!" Skaelka called out while they were still fighting the zombies off. "I am thrilled with emotion!"

"Why are you thrilled about this?" June asked in disbelief, pushing a zombie back.

"Because we're doomed with each other," Skaelka said gleefully, June pushing a zombie with the end of her spear. Meanwhile, the fire fell down as the zombies approached her, Dirk, Skaelka, and May.

"June..." Dirk pushed another one away, the four looking hopeless. "She might be right about that doomed thing."

"This is it, the end!" May squeezed her eyes shut as they thought it was all over...until they heard a siren. They gasped as they looked on the opposite side of the street to see their friends approaching in a fire truck.

"Jack!" June smiled in relief at him.

"Ten points for Jack!" Skaelka cheered for the boy.

"Don't think that counts towards the tournament..." May gave a weak smile, Jack honking the fire truck horn.

"It really is louder than I thought it would be up close," He called out to the others. June jumped onto Big Mama and waved.

"Guys!"

"Hi, June!" Quint waved from the roof of the truck. "Hi, Dirk! Hi, May! Hit it, Bardle!"

Bardle attached the hose, which had the Zom-B-Gone goo in it. Quint then sprayed it all over them. June crawled up to Jack on the fire truck. "You were right about the fire truck. This is fun!" She smiled as he helped her up.

"Here," He handed her the same backpack he was wearing. "A zombie repellent ooze pack for you."

"Oh, boy, that is a strong smell," She held it away from her before putting it on.

"I know, right," He chuckled with a smile.

"Not as bad as that blasted toilet bucket," Quint muttered bitterly while looking away. May heard him while climbing up to him.

"You'll survive past the toilet bucket, Quint," She patted his back in sympathy. June sprayed some ooze onto some zombies, who immediately ran away after getting covered in it.

"Run, smelly dead things!" Skaelka mocked them as they all retreated. "I'll join your face, probably, but not this day! Eh, Dirk?"

"Whatever you say, lady. You got the axe."

"Wanna smell it?" She offered, throwing him off. "Smells like glory." She held it up and he did actually sniff it.

"Yeah, you should probably wash that," He said in a disgusted tone. She just smiled and they watched all the zombies leave. Quint and May poured the goo into jars so they could be like lights on sticks. They waved it at some uncovered zombies, who snarled and left. Dirk knocked one away with it. "And stay out!"

Together they planted the Zom-B-Gone around the block so that no other zombies would get closer. June laughed as she high-fived Bellybuster.

"The Zom-B-Gone torches actually made all the zombies gone," Jack smiled, crossing his arms. "Way to go, Quint!"

"Ah, it's not as toxic as direct goo contact," He gestured to the torches he and May were holding. "But electricity plus monster guts equals serious zombie repellent."

"Well done, Quint," Bardle walked up to him. "Clever."

"Thanks," He chuckled bashfully at the compliment. "I'm no wizard, but-"

"Decidedly not..." Bardle interrupted, leaving them behind. Quint just huffed at this.

"Ah, don't worry about that grouch," May waved it off. "Thanks to you, our home is finally safe from the zombies," She smiled, placing a hand on his shoulder. June ran up and punched his shoulder a bit.

"Nice going, Quint."

"And now that that's done, May and I can jump right back on the radio," Quint spoke up nervously as she'd probably insist on them working themselves endlessly now.

"I'm just glad you guys are okay. We can tackle the radio later," June waved it off, her arms around them. They smiled and were about to leave when she pulled them back. "Like 20 minutes? ...Kidding. Take 30," She laughed, and they both glanced at each other, annoyed.

"Thanks, that means so much coming from you..." May deadpanned while sagging her shoulders and walking away.

"Human Dirk, you did well," Skaelka smiled and then gave a small laugh. "For a human."

He smiled, grateful that she at least saw him something more than human. "You did well for a monster!" Globlet cheered up at him.

"Dirk Monster!" He pumped his fists with a wide grin.

"Go peddle your sack of lameness somewhere else, slap fondue," Chef waved him off while slithering away.

"Slap fondue," Dirk silently mocked him. "I like fondue." He joined his laughing friends as Jack was telling them something.

"And then Quint was all, jerk-a-jerk-a-jerk-a with the hose, and-"

"I was awesome for a moment!" Quint smiled widely and May grinned.

"It was more than awesome, you looked so cool with the hat and hose!" She jumped up a bit and he rubbed his neck with a blush.

"I was...cool?"

"For real!" June agreed with May, though on a friendly level. "And Dirk getting his monster on with Skaelka!"

"She let me sniff her axe!" Dirk smiled, though not exactly a feat given the smell.

"Totally! Wait, what now?"

"Um..." Quint tried to process what he said and May held up her hand.

"You know what, I think we're all just not gonna ask and move on."

"Um, what about May flip flopping around and doing that spin?" Dirk tried to change the subject and she gave a small giggle.

"Yeah, that was pretty cool. I implemented it from one of my old cheer routines."

"Aw, I missed it," Quint pouted and she patted his back.

"I'll show it to you sometime," The girl said in assurance.

"Hey, Jack!" Skaelka approached him with the other monsters.

"We, uh, just wanted to thank you for today," Quint spoke up for everyone.

"It was great and full of glory!" Skaelka smiled widely at him.

"And really, really fun," June added in with a smile of her own.

"And something I think we can agree that we all needed," May grinned, crossing her arms.

"We have something for you," Quint gestured to Skaelka, who presented him with the trophy. June tuned it on, revealing that it had lights.

"Oh, wow. You guys!" Jack said happily as everyone surrounded him.

"You earned it. Keeper of the fun!" Dirk cheered while pumping his fists.

"Ugh, I'm gonna eat him in his sleep and then take the trophy," Chef declared, laughing before getting hit in the head by a flying monster.

"Keeper of the fun!"

May then looked to Chef, pointing between her eyes and him with a glare. He flinched as she was insinuating that she'd be on lookout should he try to steal the trophy.

The zombies walked around town, the King Wretch flying and landing on a building. He came across a blue wretch, landing in front of it. They both roared at each other before the King Wretch ate it alive, shocking the other creatures. It stared down the others, who bowed down since they wanted to stay alive. The King Wretch then flew off, followed by the others...

May waved goodnight to everyone as they headed off to sleep. She looked at the family photo of her friends, June's parents, Quint's family, and her mom. She gave a small smile as she took off the photo of her and her mom. She had no idea what to expect when they got the radio working...but she had some hope that her mom was still out there, probably looking for her right now...

Suddenly she saw something poking out from behind the picture frame. She hummed in confusion as she removed it, seeing that it was a folded paper. And right in front was her full name. She gently put the photo of her and her mom and then took a seat on the couch. She then slowly opened up the paper to read it. She gasped as it was a letter to her...

From her father.
