"...for the best-played chess game Hogwarts has seen in many years, I award Gryffindor House fifty points." Gryffindor cheers nearly raised the bewitched ceiling; the stars overhead quivered.

Percy told the other prefects, "My brother, you know! My youngest brother! Got past McGonagall's giant chess set!" Finally, silence again.

"Second... to Miss Hermione Granger... for cool logic in the face of fire, I award Gryffindor House fifty points." Hermione buried her face in her arms.

Jade suspected she had burst into tears. Gryffindors up and down the table were beside themselves... they were a hundred points up.

"Third... to Mr. Harry Potter... " said Dumbledore.

The room fell quiet.

"...for pure nerve and outstanding courage, I award Gryffindor House sixty points." The silence was deafening.

Those who could add up while yelling themselves hoarse knew that Gryffindor now had four hundred and seventy-two points... exactly the same as Slytherin. There was a tie for the house cup. Dumbledore raised his hand. The room gradually fell silent.

"There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a lot of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I, therefore, award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom."

Jade's eyes widened for two reasons: first, Neville had been brave for once... and second, her name wasn't going to be mentioned in helping them. Normally she'd be mad and part of her still was, but she didn't want to be personally labeled a house traitor either. Someone standing outside the Great Hall may have thought an explosion had occurred, so loud was the noise from the Gryffindor table. Harry, Ron, and Hermione stood up to yell and cheer as Neville, white with shock, disappeared under a pile of people hugging him. He had never gained a single point for Gryffindor before. Meanwhile, at the Slytherin table, they groaned in disappointment.

"I can't believe he didn't give you any points for helping those idiots..." Draco complained quietly so only Jade and Daphne could hear him.

Jade sighed and shrugged her shoulders.

"Which means," Dumbledore called over the storm of applause, even Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff celebrated Slytherin's downfall, "We need a small decoration change."

"I think he just did that 'cause he himself is a Gryffindor..." Grumbled Jade.

Dumbledore clapped his hands. In an instant, the green flags became scarlet and the silver became gold; the huge Slytherin serpent vanished and a towering Gryffindor lion took its place. Snape shook Professor McGonagall's hand, with a forced smile. He looked in Harry's direction and Jade knew Snape's feelings had just worsened toward the Gryffindor boy. This made Jade laugh. She had almost forgotten that the exam results were still coming, and yet they did. To her surprise, Harry, Draco, Daphne, and Ron passed with commendable marks; Hermione, of course, had the most impressive grades of the first years alongside Jade who tied with her. Even Longbottom scraped through, his stellar Herbology mark compensating for his abysmal Potions mark. Goyle had passed as well of course, but that didn't mean she didn't think he might've failed due to his focus on playing pranks on the other houses.

Just before they left for the summer Dumbledore escorted the students out towards the pitch which had been set up earlier that day thanks to Draco and Daphne who Jade had asked to help her. As their farewell was held, Dumbledore announced that she had been planning this for months. Jade took her wand in her right hand and placed it in her left as she pointed it toward her own throat. Her wand began to glow green as she spoke, a new spell she'd learned to enhance her voice. This was so she could be heard in the speakers placed in a few spots near the crowd. As her wand stopped glowing and she placed it back in her pocket she spoke.

"Hello, everyone I hope you've had a wonderful year! I'm going to sing a song I thought of in the last four days due to certain things that happened to me and a few others. I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful summer!" She said cheerfully as she smiled and charmed several items around her to change into instruments that played on their own.

"I call it: Don't Think, Just Run." She said as she mounted one of the brooms on the pitch.

She saw rather than heard Madam Hooch shout for her to get off the broom since she'd taken no flying classes outside of the first one with Harry and Draco. She did not listen as she planned on using the broom in her song performance. Several seconds after the piano played, she sang.

"You don't know yet... where you're going..."

She smirked at Madam Hooch, who looked worried.

"If it's better than where you are coming from... settle down..."

She sang as her broom rose up higher and closed her eyes then opened them again.

"This feels right somehow..."

She sang with a smile as she looked down at Draco and Daphne who had their wands drawn out.

"You meet twists and turns every corner..."

She sang as she dodged the hexes coming from her friend's wands.

"But each step you take brings you closer... to everything that's achingly familiar..."

She sang as she remembered meeting Dumbledore for the first time, followed by when Harry showed her the Mirror.

"And at the edges of your mind, your mind... Something is whispering to take you... into the unknown..."

She sang while avoiding another hex from Draco as a picture in her head reminded her of the three-headed dog.

"And see what you find..."

She sang with a slight frown visualizing Quirrell removing his turban to reveal Voldemort's face.

"So deep breathe in... You're meant for this..."

She sang as she twisted again, barely missing Daphne's hex this time.

"Everyone wants to know... If you're the answer they've been searching for..."

She sang as her eyes fell on Harry Potter in the crowd next to Ron and Hermione.

"All eyes on you..."

She sang as she slowly rose to stand on the broom as it flew through the air like a surfboard on waves.

"So much to prove..."

She sang as she looked through the crowd for a different face.

"Whoever you were back then... You won't ever be again..."

She sang as she found Severous's almost surprised expression and smirked in triumph.

"Remember how far you've come..."

She sang as her eyes found Draco again, who was preparing another attack that she dodged.

"Don't think just run!" She smiled.

"You forced yourself to dig deeper... When you redefined the unthinkable..."

She sang as she finally spotted Draco's father in the stands sitting next to his ex-wife looking like he was arguing with her.

"Can't give in... To the hopelessness..."

She sang remembering when she thought she'd get caught by Filch a few times that year.

"Some rules are meant to be broken... You won't be confined by them anymore..."

She sang with a determined look in her eyes as she flew straight for one of Daphne's hexes, however, at the last second she cast a counterspell.

"This might be your one chance at redemption... It's all or nothing... Make your stand, you stand..."

She sang with a hopeful look in her eyes, as she thought briefly about what her future might look like.

"You reached the edge there is no choice... Now you have to jump... And see where you land..."

She sang as she thought about how they'd fallen into the door under Fluffy.

"So deep breath in... You're meant for this... Everyone wants to know... If you're the answer they've been searching for..."

She sang as she dodged more of Draco's hexes.

"All eyes on you... So much to prove... Whoever you were back then... You won't ever be again..."

She sang as she dodged Daphne's hexes and smirked.

"Remember how far you've come... Don't think just run!"

She sang as she dodged another hex from Daphne and shot one back at her. When it hit the Greengrass girl, it turned her hair temporarily green and several people in the crowd gasped before laughing.

"There might be peace on the other side... Your memories are on the other side..."

She sang as she glanced over at Snape, who looked to be talking to Lucius now.

"Nothing to lose on the other side... You won't be scared of the other side..."

She sang as she found Neville's puzzled face.

"What might be there on the other side... The world is new on the other side..."

She smirked as she dodged a hex from Draco.

"So deep breath in... You're meant for this... Everyone wants to know..."

She sang as she landed softly on the ground and threw a hex at Draco that almost hit him.

"If you're the answer they've been searching for... All eyes are on you... So much to prove..."

She sang as Draco prepared another to hex her.

"Whoever you were back then... You won't ever be again... Remember how far you've come..."

She sang as she threw a hex at him that missed again.

"Don't think just run!"

Draco's hex landed just as she finished the song and temporarily turned her into a black fox.

~Time skip~

Jade was now back to normal as was Daphne's hair. Lucius walked into the Slytherin common room to take his son home and ask Jade if she was joining them this summer.

"Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Malfoy I completely forgot about your letter," Jade said with a frown. "I'd love to spend the summer with you and Draco." She smiled.

As she walked to her room to pack she realized her stuff had already been packed and her owl was back in its cage.

'So he just assumed id go with them?' She thought with a small giggle to herself.

Notes were handed out to all students, warning them not to use magic over the summer. "I always hoped they'd forget to give us these," said one of the older Slytherins sadly.

Lucius and Draco escorted her to a private car attached to the Hogwarts Express. They told her she could sit with them if she wanted to. She did since she liked spending time with them plus figured it'd be more comfortable than being in the car she'd sat in on the way to Hogwarts. The train stopped once and she was about to get up but Draco shook his head.

"This train will take us all the way to Malfoy Manor, so we don't have to get out yet," Lucius spoke for him.

Jade didn't say anything but made an 'O' face as she sat back down and looked out the window to watch as most of the students got out.
