Chapter Two
*Andy's dad is dead, lost his first battle with Cancer.
*Carina still won't be in the picture, at least not yet.
*Meredith and Andy are just friends.
*Ryan is dead.
Once Andy calmed down she pulled back. "You being here is enough. Don't have a lot of people I can trust in my life right now." Andy told her, eyes still red and watery.
"I'm glad you know you can trust me." Meredith smiles. "Listen, I got to go check on my patients but I'll be back as soon as I can, okay?" Andy nods. "Lay down. Get some rest."
"Thank you, Mer." Meredith nods and walks out of the room, locking the door behind her. Andy sighs and falls back on the couch, bringing down a blanket that had been laying on the back of the couch and falls asleep.
When Meredith walked back into her office she saw that Andy was still asleep and told Amelia and Maggie to be quiet.
"What's going on with her?" Maggie asked.
"I don't totally know. I just know that she's struggling and doesn't have a lot of people in her corner." Meredith told her.
"Mer, is there something more going on? Something that no one knows about?" Amelia asked, thinking there may be something happening beneath the surface.
Meredith looked at her, wondering the same thing. "I honestly don't know but assuming things isn't exactly helpful."
"Your right about that." a fourth voice said. "There's nothing more going on than me being exhausted, physically, and tired of how things keep working out at work," Andy told them. "I want captain more than anything and I am so tired of never getting the job." Andy sighs and sits up on the couch.
"Is there anything we can do for you right now Andy?" Amelia asks, sitting on the couch next to her. "We all want to be here for you."
"When do you all get off?" Andy asked, folding the blanket up.
"Right now actually. I was just coming back here to grab something." Meredith told her, putting a file away in her desk and grabbing her bag. "We're all done. Do you want to hang out with us at my house? Movie night?" Meredith suggests, hoping Andy says yes because she doesn't want her to be alone.
"I'd love to. Can we just stop by my apartment so I can grab some clothes?" Andy asked, standing up.
"Sure," Meredith answered. "Let's go."
The four women left Meredith's office and were turning to go to the parking lot when Maggie ran into Teddy.
"Whoa. I am so sorry." Maggie said, gripping Amelia's arm to help keep her balance.
"No worries. It was my fault. I was looking down." Teddy told Maggie, regaining her own balance.
Meredith, Andy and Amelia were trying to hold in their laughter.
"Something funny to you girls?" Teddy asked, eyebrow raised.
Meredith giggled. "No. No, of course not."
"You're not a good liar, Mer," Teddy told her, eyebrow still raised.
Andy giggles. "I mean, she has a point, Dr. Grey."
"Oh? So it's "Dr. Grey" now?"
"I mean, while we're still in the hospital at least." Andy smiles and they all break out in laughter. "Teddy, would you want to join us for a movie night? If that's okay with you, Grey?"
"That'd be great. The more the merrier." Meredith smiled warmly at Teddy.
"Is it at your house?" Teddy asked Meredith.
"Yes. Do you want to meet us there or want a ride?"
"I'll take my own car. I need to stop by my place for some clothes." Teddy told them.
"Alright, Andy and you need to go to your places to get clothes so how about you both go to your places, get whatever you need and then come to mine. Andy? You could bring some snacks and Teddy? Do you want to bring some dinner? Maybe pizza or Chinese." Amelia suggested.
"I'll grab a pizza and some Chinese food," Teddy told her.
Amelia nods and the 5 women all say goodbye to each other and go their separate ways, agreeing to meet at Meredith's at 4 pm. Teddy went back to her house to grab some clothes, Andy went to her apartment to get some clothes while Meredith, Amelia and Maggie went back to Meredith's house.
When Andy got back to her apartment she rushed into her bedroom to get changed into some more comfortable clothes and some clothes for tomorrow, figuring that she would be sleeping over. She was about to go to the bathroom when she heard a knock on her door. Andy huffed but went to answer the door. When she opened and saw Maya and went to close the door but Maya stuck her foot in the way before she could.
"I'm getting ready to leave, Maya. I can't deal with you right now." Andy tried to close the door again. "Maya. Please leave."
"No. We need to talk about what happened at the station."
"Not right now we can't. I'm expected somewhere." Andy told her, going into her bedroom quickly to grab her bag.
"Andy, please slow down." Maya tried "I know you think that was a bitch move back at the station but-"
"I think? No. I know it was a bitch move." Andy stops her movements and looks at Maya. "Maya, you encouraged me to go after what I wanted when my dad was here and sick. You told me to go after lieutenant and then when I do you go after it right after. Like it was a damn competition."
"Ripley encouraged me to go after it! Okay? Look I'm sorry it took someone convincing me that I'm made for a leadership role to actually go for it but I do think I'm ready for captain." Maya told Andy.
"Maya, I don't know who's going to become captain but I do know I wasn't ready to throw anyone under the bus to get 2 bars on my collar like you were." Andy bit out. "You need to leave."
"Andy, look, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to hurt you-"
"-But you did." Andy cut Maya off. "You did and you knew what you were doing so don't you dare play little Miss Innocent."
"Andy-"
"-Please Maya, just leave. I have somewhere to be."
Maya looked at Andy, looking like she wanted to say more but just sighed and walked out of her apartment, Andy slamming the door behind her. Andy sighed and made her way out of the apartment and down to her car and drove to the grocery and liquor store.
When Andy got to Meredith's house she grabbed her bag out of the back of the car and the bag of chips and candy and liquor and carried them to the house. Knocking on the door she waited for someone to come to the door and was surprised when Zola answered the door.
"Zola!" Andy exclaimed. "How are you doing, Kiddo?"
"I'm good. Mom is in the living room with Teddy, Amelia and Maggie." Zola said, opening the door wider and letting Andy in.
"Zola!" Meredith called. "What did I tell you about answering the door without me?"
"Sorry, Mommy," Zola said, looking down.
"It's okay, Sweetie. Why don't you go do your homework." Meredith asked her daughter and watched her sigh and tried to hold in a laugh when Zola mumbled something under her breath.
"Herrera, do you normally take that long to pack a bag and do a little shopping?" Meredith laughs but quickly stops when she notices Herrera's serious face. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I could use a drink though." Andy tried to brush it off. Andy moved to the kitchen, having been in Meredith's house a couple of times before.
Meredith followed Andy to the kitchen. "Andy, you can't avoid your problems." Meredith watches Andy's expression turn to a frown. "Look, I know you're not one to wear your heart on your sleeve but I do read people for a living. Tell me what happened in between leaving the hospital and going to your apartment."
"I'm just tired, Meredith. Work has been crazy, I've been trying to take on too much. I just want to make captain so bad that it hurts sometimes." Andy told her, trying to keep her emotions in check.
"Andy, is there anything I can do for you?" Meredith asked, resting a hand on Andy's arm.
Andy was still frowning but looked up at Meredith. "How about a time machine to when everything in life was easier? My dad died. My best friend was fucking murdered by a child and I don't know how I'm supposed to go on when I'm in so much pain." Meredith watches Andy's eyes get watery. "I just want to get captain. I need to get captain." A few tears fall down Andy's cheeks and Meredith pulls her into a hug and her heart breaks when Andy lets out a sob. "I need to get captain. I have to." Andy kept repeating.
