Chapter 30

Jacob Kane paced in his office. He'd just seen the video that Kara had and heard the story. He didn't want to believe that his stepdaughter was mixed up in Pike and that mess but there was the proof in front of him.

"Sir, as much as I wouldn't dream of suggesting taking this out of our hands, if ARGUS cannot find this Natasha, we are in trouble on that end. I'm suggesting we just get Mary back and then let ARGUS take care of the rest," Kara spoke up. She'd put a call into Brainy on their way over to Crow headquarters. He promised that he was all over it.

"You have to assume that Natasha isn't done with Gotham City," Jacob turned to the blonde.

"Hardly. She wanted to attack Gotham and getting to Mary and your family was a bonus. We have to assume though, that Gotham is just the beginning," Kara explained. He gave her a look.

"Sir, organizations like what Natasha has created, are large and have the ability to disappear into the night. They make a point of making a splash and then vanishing from the news because they have not been caught. They haven't made a splash. That will be coming, make no mistake. We need to make sure that Mary is not part of that splash," Nyssa spoke up. Jacob nodded. He knew that she was right. His life in law enforcement had taught him as much.

"I've got Crows and GCPD sweeping the city. Hopefully, that will mean we can find Mary or our perps before something else bad happens," Jacob told them before asking,

"What about Batwoman and Supergirl?"

"They'll be out searching shortly. They're running down a lead," Kate confirmed. Jacob nodded. The group was about to break up when Sophie came barging into the office.

"I've got shots fired at a unit down by City Hall," she announced.

"Usual suspects or someone else?" Jacob wanted to know. He and Sophie rushed downstairs to the main dispatch area. Kate and Nyssa followed, allowing Kara to slip away. The blonde found her way to the parking garage exit and quickly left the sight of the security cameras.

As soon as she was hidden from view, Kara changed into her other outfit and took to the skies. The sounds of bullets flying and striking cars and buildings directing her flight to the scene. She also noticed a presence that was very familiar to her.

"J'onn," the blonde smiled as the Martian joined her in the sky.

"Seems you have more trouble here," he said.

"Lots more trouble Papa Bear. Shall we assist the good guys?" Kara wanted to know.

"Of course," he smiled back and the two reached the scene. The Crows were surprised to see Supergirl with Martian Manhunter, but they certainly welcomed the help. Still, something to Kara seemed off. Three shooters from a large white van had pinned down two Crow officers just outside the City Hall. Crow backup had arrived and that's when the van's occupants pulled out larger guns – military style weapons. J'onn swooped down and grabbed one of the shooters from behind, stripping him of his weapon, and then dropping him at the Crows' feet. Kara picked up the van, effectively robbing the last two of their cover. They started to run but didn't make it far as one was shot by a Crow and J'onn grabbed the other.

"This is a distraction," Kara said to J'onn as she set the van back down. The inside was empty, but it would have been a perfect vehicle for the attempt at the museum.

"You think that your hypnotist has bigger plans?" J'onn wondered.

"I know they do," Kara shook her head.

"Supergirl! They need you down at GCPD headquarters! Shots fired and an explosion!" One of the Crows shouted. Quickly, Kara and J'onn took off toward the scene.
