If One Thing Changed: Missing

"Doc let me take the bag for you." John Sheppard said as they walked through the stargate toward the Athosian settlement

"Thank you Col, you know I would have got your girl back in one piece," Keller said with a smirk

"John is with us because we must talk to the elders about the next generation," Teyla said ghosting her hand against her growing bump.

"Because you're the leader?" Keller asked

"Yes and because we are to be bonded John will be seen as a leader as well. To be honest most of my people already see him as such." Teyla said

"Is it always this quiet," Jennifer asked

"No." John and Teyla said together. Keller watched as John handed Teyla a gun then pulled another from his pack and went off running. By the time they made it to where John was. He had found a handful of people and pulled them under a fallen tent.

"Jinto!" Teyla whispered as she fell to her knees beside Jennifer who started to try and treat the young adult who had an infant in his arms.

"Teyla takes Mira," Jinto said as he started to cough up blood. Mira was Jinto's first born who was just born a little over 6 months ago.

"Till you are better."

"No Teyla, if the ancestors were to take me I want you and lt col Sheppard to raise her.." he said as he coughed some more and closed his eyes. That's how a month later Teyla and. John found themselves laying on the bed in their new quarters with baby Mira in between them. Jinto had succumbed to his injuries but not before making Teyla and John promise to raise Mira and he had given them what information he had. Teyla watched with a small smile as John played with Mira in the month they had her. Teyla had seen what she had always known John Sheppard was an amazing father and she was the woman who got to raise children with him. While Mira and even the child she carried was unexpected she wouldn't change it for anything.

" So I was thinking when we are in the States next week to do Mira's

Paperwork. What would you think of seeing my dad and brother? "

"I think it sounds like a great plan, I think it is time that you talk to your family," Teyla said leaning forward and giving him a kiss.

"You, Mira, and baby Sheppard are my family. And Ronon and Rodney." John said quietly picking Mira up and letting her sit on his stomach, leaning back on his knees. The family of three was broken out of their playtime by the chimes going off.

"Who could that be?" John asked the baby lifting her in the air and making a funny face at her causing her to giggle.

"Colonel," John said trying to juggle the baby and salute.

"At ease John, we just got a call from SGC, your father had a heart attack last night as of right now. He's in ICU, your clear to leave as soon as possible" Samantha Carter said as John stood still taking in the information.

"Colonel Carter, Mira, and I are supposed to accompany John next week would be able to go now?" Teyla asked as she stood from the bed

"Yes, you both can go."

That's how a few hours later the three of them were at the hospital close to one of the houses that John grew up in. Teyla sit beside John who had Mira in a tight grasp, she watched her soon-to-be husband talk to the baby about all the wonders Earth had and everything he wanted to show her in the next 2 weeks that they would be there.

"John! I was surprised when Pete said you were here.." John's older brother Dave said as he stopped in front of them.

"Hey Dave, yes we came as soon as we went out. Who's Pete?" John asked as he started bouncing Mira since the attention wasn't on her.

"The man that was at the house when you got there. He's not the maid or the nanny even though he likes to crack those jokes, he's actually my husband."

"Husband? So you finally came out to Dad? I'm happy for you Dave." John said a smile lighting up his face even though he and his father didn't see eye to eye. He and Dave had always been close till their father drove a wedge between them and John hoped they could be close again.

"Thanks, little brother, and looks like things have changed for you as well," Dave said motioning to Mira and Teyla.

"Yes this is my fiancé Teyla, who is pregnant with baby Shepherd #2, and this little beauty is Mira. we're supposed to adopt next week, so that makes her baby Shepherd #1."

"You found her through Teyla's people?" Dave asked has he sit down next to John who handed him baby Mira.

"Yes Teyla is the leader of her people and unfortunately the day we were visiting her people they were attacked when we got there we found a small group that included a young adult Jinto who Teyla has known all his life and I had known since the week I arrived there. He made us promise to care for Mira if something were to happen to him since Mira had already lost her mother when she was a month old." John said quietly

"Jinto passed a week later and we have been going through the process since," Teyla said, smiling at how comfortable Mira seemed with Dave. She knew that John was hopeful that he could grow close to Dave again like they had been growing up.

"I can imagine how much of a headache all this is. Pete and I have started to look at adoption and there's so much red tape and that's just stateside." Dave said rubbing Mira's back.

"Yes, it is a lot of hoops. luckily the air force is helpful." Teyla said. The 3 of them were broken out of their conversation by Dave's husband Pete coming from one direction and Patrick Sheppard's doctor coming from the other side.

"Mr, Sheppard-Gray I have an update about your father if we can go over here to discuss it." The doctor said.

"You can discuss it here, this is my brother Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard, and our significant others. We're all family." Dave said as Mira reached for Pete even though she didn't know him yet. John could see the love in his brother's eyes as Pete took Mira.

"Your father had a severe heart attack, the machines are breathing for him and pumping his heart as far as I can tell it may stay that way. Looking at your father's medical paperwork he doesn't want to live this way. On his file, he says that if has not regained consciousness after so long he wants you to turn off the machine."

"Thank you Doc," John said as the doctor walked away.

"I can't believe that bastard!" Dave said his jaw sitting as he shared a look with John.

"If you have to pull the plug we could take that job. Or could leave him in care here."

"What job?" John asked curious.

"Um let's go to the house," Dave said. 20 minutes later the 4 adults and Mira were in Dave and Pete's living room.

"This is top secret but since I put your name as part of the company when I left the job offer is for you too," Dave said from where he and Pete sat on one of the couches and held out the file of paper work to John who was sitting on the other couch with Teyla has Mira played in the floor with some toys. John knew that Dave had left the family's company and started a new energy company and had put John's name on part of it. John flipped open the folder and started to laugh.

"I know it sounds crazy," Dave said absentmindedly playing with Pete's hand.

"It's not that Dave, it says here you would be under the Lieutenant Colonel who is the military commander it's nice to meet you Mr.Sheppard-Gray I'm Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard," John said with a smirk as Teyla smiled at the brothers.

"You bastard this is your secret base?" Dave asked

"It is."

"So that means Teyla you are from another galaxy?"

"Yes I am." Teyla said

"There's so much I want to know!" Dave said with a smile."

"And we will tell you everything! I think you would enjoy it Dave and as someone who finally got out of Dad's

Shadow it might do you some good."

"I was going to talk to you next week but since you are both here now. When Pete and I married we were able to split for the most part from dad. Dad basically gave me so much of the company and said publicly he wants me gone. We were going to talk to you next week about wanting to see if you wanted to join us in this new world which apparently isn't new to you." Dave said with a slight smirk.

"Like building the gate ships?"

"Yes, Teyla it would be like that. I would be willing to give it a go but there would be some rules like no charging Atlantis and things like that but we can talk it all over when we get back to the Peguas galaxy."

"You would be okay with us going?" Dave asked a

Smile gracing his and Pete's faces. John and Teyla shared a look before nodding their heads.

"Yes I think it would be amazing to have a family with us especially since we'll soon have 2 kids," John said.

A week later Mira was officially Mira Emmagan-Shepherd and Teyla was Teyla Emmagan-Shepherd, they had married by American customs and would take part in an isthmian bonding ceremony when they return home. Dave and Pete had accepted the positions with the SGC and Atlantis and were working on forming an alliance with Sheppard Family Industries. The last thing to do before the family left earth was to deal with the remaining issues with their father who was still in a coma with machines breathing for him.

"Are the two of you sure about this ?" The family lawyer asked as he handed the paper and pin to the brothers.

"Yes it's time for us to move on, and this is the best way to do that. Here is our contact info if you need us for anything you can call that number and leave a message for one or both of us and we'll get back to you." John said as they both signed the papers. That night the family of five stood in front of the Stargate, heading for the midway station.

"Pete, Dave get ready for the craziness adventure ever," John said adjusting Mira in one arm and taking Teyla's free hand in his other.

"We are more than ready little brother," Dave said.

"Let's go home," John said as the gate started swirling and locking in place. He glanced around one last time knowing he would have very little reason to come to the SGC. Earth was no longer his home Atlantis was.
