Summary: The sun fell below the horizon, and the warm gleam faded from her sapphire eyes. The wind grew still as her head fall to rest on his shoulder, just like she'd done to Geto many times, but never again. "Thanks, Satoru, for watching the sunset with me." In the moonlight, the silver rivers that ran down her face shone, and, for the first time, he didn't know what to say to her.
Pairing: Geto/Kagome; Gojo/Kagome
Disclaimer: I do not own either series. Each belongs to their rightful owners.
Note:
Mostly takes place during Teenage!Gojo&Geto years.
Prologue
The moonlight danced along her skin as she sat on the roof of the shrine. A soft smile lifted her lips as she fell to lay back against the roof, stretching her limbs out with a sigh. The air was pleasantly warm, and she found herself not needing the blanket she carried out that night.
"What are you doing?" A familiar voice caught in her ears, and she felt her smile widen a bit. She didn't sit up as a larger figure walked to where she was. A second later, he sat down beside her. His hand landed on her own, and nothing was said about it.
"Stargazing," she mused softly once he'd gotten comfortable beside her. He let out a curious hum, and she saw from the corner of her eye how he tilted his head back to look up at the same sky as her.
"You can't see anything because of all the light pollution," he remarked as he shifted his gaze back to her. "The only thing that's visible is the moon, Kagome."
Kagome shook her head and lifted a finger. "Nuh-uh," she responded softly. "Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there, Suguru," she continued. If she looked beyond the light pollution, they were there, twinkling brightly down at her. She could feel the exasperation that he felt at her response. She didn't have to look at him to know he'd arched a brow at her statement. "I can see them just fine from where we are right now," she added softly.
"Can you?" he responded just as softly. It seemed he'd decided to entertain her ramblings. A moment later he shook his head with a gentle smile appearing on his face. He moved to lie down so his head was by her own, allowing himself to gaze up at the same sky.
She nodded, keeping her gaze pointed at the sky. As she stayed like that, he turned his head so he could look at her. Her blue eyes shimmered with the moonlight. Her eyes lit up brighter than before, and she abruptly sat up. She slapped a hand to his chest, the force behind it making him cough and sit up. "A shooting star!" she exclaimed with excitement in her voice. Geto blinked as he looked at her. "Did you see it?" she asked, turning to him with a wide smile on her face.
"I must've missed it," he responded. Her face fell into a pout and he reached a hand out to her. He brushed a lock of hair that had fallen out of place back down. "Did you make a wish?" he asked in an attempt to get that pout to fade. It did the trick, and she nodded. "What did you wish for?"
"Hah!" she jutted a finger into his chest with a laugh. "Like I'd tell you that easily," she responded. Geto arched a brow and leaned towards her.
"A wish isn't a secret," he responded, and Kagome rolled her eyes.
"Sure, but what is it telling you jinxes it?" she retorted, and he chuckled.
"Kagome." His flat tone made her smile. A second later she shook her head.
"So not telling you," she made her stance known, and he sighed. There was no way he was getting that secret out of her, not now. "If I say it, it might not come true," she continued as she laid back down, resting an arm under her head. For that to happen, that'd make her really sad…
"Fine, fine," he conceded, letting her win this time. "Once it comes true, will you tell me?" he proposed a compromise, and she laughed.
"Only when it comes true."
He nodded and he moved to lie back down alongside. He mirrored her position with an arm behind his head. Just like before, he let his attention go from the sky and to her face. A few minutes of silence passed before she lifted a hand. A soft smile painted her lips as the unwanted light from the city faded away. The world around them dimmed, but her eyes shone brighter. A barrier formed, blocking out the light of the city and swallowing it before it could reach the stars above them. As if they'd always been there, little shimmering dots littered the sky in distant patterns.
"See, Suguru?" she hummed softly, "it's beautiful, isn't it?"
He didn't look where she now pointed, instead letting his gaze remain fixed on her face. Still, that didn't prevent him from giving a response.
"Yes," Geto responded with a fond tone, "absolutely beautiful."
