Step Into the Sunlight

By Bashfulglowfly

Itachi Uchiha leaned back from the computer and stretched.

He winced slightly at the feeling and sound of his spine and neck popping. Clearly, he was spending too much time behind his desk. But, while he was unbelievably wealthy, money didn't grow on trees. And he had to not only protect his investments for the future, but he also had many humans who depended on him for their livelihoods.

He rubbed his eyes and stretched once again. It was very late. He knew that the sun was going to rise soon without even looking at the 400-year-old clock that stood in his home office. But, instead of getting up and going to bed, he checked his email one last time.

He raised an eyebrow when he saw the email from his younger brother, Sasuke. Since they lived in the same house, it didn't make sense for Sasuke to send him an email when Sasuke could just walk in and speak with him.

But Sasuke had been acting strange recently.

Itachi opened the email and began to read:

Dear Itachi,

I'm sorry.

Even writing this is difficult but I have to tell you that I'm broke. No money whatsoever.

I know that this is the third time that this has happened to me. The first being The Great Kanto Earthquake and the resulting fires in 1923.

Then again in 1945 when Nagasaki was bombed.

I don't know how I lost everything this time around. I checked my accounts a week ago and they were empty. Not a single yen left. And the banks investigated but they couldn't figure out where the money went.

I remember after Nagasaki, Shisui said, "If one is a powerful undead over 200 years old and you're still broke, you need to step into the sunlight."

That's what I'm going to do…

Itachi flung himself from his chair and raced from his office screaming his brother's name.

He could feel Sasuke at the front door.

He could hear the front door open.

He sped up.

The sun was coming.

The front door closed.

"SASUKE!"

The sun rose just as Itachi started to open the door.

He was tackled away from it and the door was kicked shut.

He tried to fight his attacker, but Shisui held him to the floor.

The two vampires then heard the screams.

And they wept.

After several agonizing minutes, the screams stopped.

Shisui looked at Itachi. "I couldn't lose both of you."

Itachi nodded. "My foolish little brother." He covered his face with his hands.

Shisui laid his head on Itachi's chest. "Sasuke was seeing someone by the name of Naruto. I'll let him know that Sasuke is…gone."

"Thank you."

Kushina Uzumaki looked on as her son tearfully said goodbye to the person he was talking to on the phone. She caught the gist of what was going on, but she waited to see what her son had to say.

Naruto tossed the phone onto his desk and leaned back, running his hands through his hair. "Sasuke Uchiha is dead." The anguish that was previously in his voice was gone.

"How?"

Naruto shrugged. "Shisui danced around what exactly happened but how exactly do vampires die?"

Kushina snorted "Wooden stake through the heart, beheading or sunlight."

Naruto nodded "I'm guessing sunlight." He stood up and walked to the window and looked out. His five tails swishing calmly behind him. "So, do you want me to go after Shisui or Itachi next?"

Kushina flicked her nine tails dismissively. "No, the Uchiha well is dry. For now. How much did you get out of Sasuke?"

"All together or just this time around?"

"This time around. What happened in '23 and '45 is in the past."

"This time just under 142 billion yen."

"Excellent!" Kushina beamed at her son. "I think I've found you a new target."

Naruto went to his mother's side and looked at the face on her computer. "Pretty."

"And very wealthy." Kushina gave her son a vulpine grin which he answered with one of his own. "Her name is Hinata Hyuuga…"
