11/6/2038…
"Why d'you kill him? What happened before you took that knife?"
Leah was doing her best to fight off sleep… she wasn't sure how long she and the others had been in the observation room as Hank was in the Interrogation room.
Gavin spared a quick glance towards the redhead before looking back at Hank and the android as Leah rested against the wall, Connor looking at her.
The half empty coffee cup in her right hand had long gone cold from what Connor had analyzed and Leah tossed it into the trash can, Gavin letting out a small chuckle.
"I can't believe you just did that instead of going and reheating it." Gavin responded, Leah rolling her eyes.
"I can't drink six cups a day like you. Three is enough to give me a headache." Leah replied before they looked back at the interrogation room.
"Why didn't you even try to run away?" Hank asked the deviant.
Getting no response, Hank slammed his hands against the table and the sound made Leah jump back and Connor reach out to steady her.
"Say something, goddamnit!" Hank retorted before he stood up. "Fuck it, I'm outta here!"
Hank walked to the door, touching the lock pad near it and unlocking and opening the interrogation room door before he walked into the hallway and the door closed behind him.
He walked into the observation room in a huff, frustrated and turning to the others.
"We're wastin' our time interrogating a machine, we're gettin' nothing out of it!" Hank responded before he sat down.
"Could always try roughing it up a little. After all, it's not human." Gavin suggested, Leah shaking her head from side to side for a few seconds.
"Not surprised you'd suggest that." Leah responded.
"Androids don't feel pain. You would only damage it and that wouldn't make it talk." Connor explained after looking at Gavin, who rolled his eyes.
"Fucking annoying plastic prick!" Gavin muttered.
"Deviants also have a tendency to self-destruct when they're in stressful situations." Connor responded, unfazed by Gavin's comment and Gavin moved away from the wall.
"Okay, smartass. What should we do then?" Gavin suggested.
"I could try questioning it." Connor explained.
Gavin let out a snarky laugh and Hank and Leah looked at each other before they nodded.
"Well, what do we have to lose?" Leah spoke after a few seconds, Gavin's smirk fading.
"Red, what the hell?!" Gavin asked.
"She's right." Hank responded before he looked at Connor. "Go ahead, suspect's all yours."
Connor walked out of the observation room and into the interrogation room, sitting down across from the deviant and Hank standing up and helping Leah sit down.
"Here. Rest for a bit." Hank replied, lightly kissing Leah's forehead.
In the interrogation room, Connor opened the folder of the crime scene photos.
"You recognize him? It's Carlos Ortiz. Stabbed, 28 times." Connor explained, getting no response. "That was written on the wall in his blood."
A blink was the only indication that the deviant was still there mentally… and Connor noticed the damage that had been inflicted.
"You're damaged… did your owner do that? Did he beat you?" Connor responded.
Once again, there was no response and Connor saw the tired expression on Leah's face as they glanced at each other through the glass before he thought of something and turned back to the android.
"If you won't talk, I'm going to have to probe your memory." Connor threatened, the deviant looking up as the cracked LED blared red.
"NO! No, please don't do that!" The deviant pleaded, Connor backing off.
"Okay. I'm not going to hurt you. I just need to ask you some questions, so we can understand what happened." Connor explained as the deviant looked around and back to Connor.
"They're gonna destroy me…" The deviant responded, having given up hope of living.
"No… I think they just want to understand. They know your master abused you. It wasn't your fault." Connor replied.
The deviant's left arm was stretched out a bit despite the chains… and Connor and Leah looked at each other.
She nodded and Connor turned back to the deviant, resting his right hand on the deviant's left forearm.
The deviant let out a fragile smile… before he screamed as Connor probed his memory and saw what had happened before he let go and turned back to Leah and the others.
"I accessed its memory. I know what happened." Connor explained before he stood up, walking to the door.
It slid open… and Connor heard a thud before another followed it and turned around, seeing the deviant repeatedly banging his head on the table as Leah stood up in the observation room and Gavin walked towards the glass.
"What the fuck is it doing?!" Gavin asked
"It's destroying itself…" Hank responded as he, Leah, Chris and Gavin ran into the interrogation room and Gavin shoved Chris towards the deviant.
"Stop it goddamnit!" Gavin shouted, Chris trying to restrain the deviant as Connor saw Leah try to run towards it and grabbed her as Chris managed to uncuff the deviant.
The deviant grabbed the dropped gun and Connor threw Leah and himself to the floor, shielding her as the gun went off.
"Holy shit!" Hank exclaimed as he stood up, Chris backing away from the deviant's body in shock and grabbing his dropped gun as Connor helped Leah up as a lockdown alarm sounded.
The gunshot had brought Fowler running to the interrogation room with the precinct… and he looked at them.
The five of them knew they were in trouble….
Present time…
"In all of my years on the force, never has an android killed itself! What the fuck happened?!" Fowler responded angrily as Leah, Connor, Gavin, Chris and Hank were sitting in chairs in front of him.
"It's my fault, we couldn't get anything out of it-" Leah started to explain before Connor stopped her and rested his right hand on her left shoulder.
"I suggested that I could try questioning it. It's not your fault, Officer Anderson." Connor responded, Gavin turning to Fowler.
"I suggest we send him to be deactivated." Gavin replied, Fowler glaring at him.
"Keep your goddamn mouth shut, Reed! I take it you suggested roughing up the deviant?!" Fowler responded.
Gavin looked away, Fowler knowing from the lack of an answer that he was right and he looked back at the filed incident reports.
"Everything seems to be in order. Now go, I don't want to see you all until it's actually sunlight outside." Fowler explained.
The five of them left the office, Connor catching Leah as she was half asleep and almost fell.
"Are you okay?" Connor asked before Hank grabbed Connor by his jacket and moved him aside.
"Get your hands off my niece!" Hank growled before he got Leah to look at him. "We're clocking out, baby girl. And you're not waking up until you've gotten more than 4 hours of sleep." He responded softly before he grabbed their things and Leah and Connor looked at each other.
Leah and Hank left a few minutes later, reaching the Anderson house… and walked into the house, Sumo opening his eyes and standing up before he ran to them and they petted him.
"Leah… are you okay after what happened?" Hank asked.
"No… but one night from hell isn't going to stop me from doing my job." Leah responded before they hugged.
After walking into her room, Leah tied her hair into a messy bun and grabbed her pajamas and a packet of Dream patches.
Cleaned off and in her pajamas, Leah took her makeup off and washed her face before applying her ELF Holy Hydration face cream and eye cream and closing both jars.
She washed her hands, dried them and stuck a Nite Nite patch on her right wrist before she put the rest of the patches in the blue packet and closed it before she walked into her room and set the packet next to the purple B12 Awake patches.
Leah climbed into her bed after letting her hair down and closed her eyes, settling into sleep.
A few hours of sound sleep would hopefully help clear her mind.
