A/N: When it comes to Miraculous pairings, Mylivan is my favorite, but until now, I had yet to do a fic about them, so here's another one about National Chicken Wing Day. Enjoy!
Many Parisians were doing their best to beat the heat on this Saturday, among them Ivan Bruel and Mylène Haprele. However, today was no ordinary summer day for them, because Marinette Dupain-Cheng had invited them over to her place today. However, the pigtailed blunette hadn't told them exactly why she wanted to see them, which had Mylène curious:
"I'm still wondering why Marinette invited us over to her place. This is her first time doing so."
Ivan put a hand on Mylène's shoulder. "Relax, Mylène! Marinette may not be my #1 best friend, but I know she's trustworthy, and whatever the reason, I'm sure she's got a good one!"
Mylène nodded nervously. "I sure hope you're right, Ivan."
Soon enough, Ivan and Mylène reached the Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie. As the bell rang when they opened the door, they were not only greeted with the fresh breeze of air-conditioned air, but also the sweet smell of various baked goods.
"Welcome, you two!" said Tom Dupain. "Can I help you?"
Ivan waved at Tom. "Hi, we're friends of Marinette from school. I'm Ivan, and this is my girlfriend Mylène."
Mylène waved and smiled nervously. "Hi."
Tom smiled. "Nice to meet you both! If you're here to see Marinette, she's upstairs. Go on ahead!"
"Thank you!" said Ivan and Mylène.
Ivan and Mylène easily found the stairs that led to the second floor, where the kitchen/dining room were located. Up here, they heard the sound of something frying in oil, and shortly thereafter, they smelled chicken cooking, so they followed their noses, ending up in the kitchen/dining room, where Marinette was.
"Hi Marinette!" said Ivan.
Marinette screamed and nearly jumped out of her skin. After collecting herself, she spun around to face the two.
"Ivan, don't sneak up on me like that!" said Marinette.
"Sorry."
Marinette smiled. "Anyways, I'm glad you and Mylène could make it! I'm almost finished with my cooking!"
"What are you cooking, anyways?" asked Mylène.
"You'll see!"
Ivan and Mylène took a seat at the table. Shortly thereafter, Marinette finished cooking what she was cooking, but they had to wait a bit for it to cool down.
"Ta-da!" Marinette gestured her hands towards what she was cooking.
"Chicken wings?" said Ivan.
"Of course! It's National Chicken Wing Day!"
Mylène scratched her cheek. "I've never heard of that holiday before…"
"Neither had I, but I wanted to try it out and find some friends to share in it!"
"Well, thanks!"
"You're welcome! I wasn't sure what sauce either of you wanted, so I got a bunch of them."
Ivan and Mylène looked at the sauces, of which there was an interesting variety: Buffalo, honey mustard, sweet & sour, teriyaki, honey BBQ and a homemade sauce of Marinette's doing. Ivan elected to coat his wings with the Buffalo sauce, while Mylène was more intrigued by the sauce that Marinette had made. Marinette herself went with the sweet & sour for her wings. They all chowed down, and even though it was clear that the Buffalo sauce had some kick to it, Ivan was able to power through, and even nodded, agreeing with the juicy savoriness of the chicken, the crispiness of the skin and the spice. Meanwhile, Mylène was getting her own kind of joy from the sticky sweetness of her wings, which paired perfectly with the chicken in her opinion.
"This sauce is really good, Marinette!" said Mylène. "What is it?"
"It's honey sesame sauce. I got the recipe online." Marinette took another bite.
Ivan swallowed. "These are really good wings. What made ya wanna invite us over here for 'em?"
Marinette smiled. "It's National Chicken Wing Day!"
"National Chicken Wing Day?" said Ivan and Mylène at the same time.
"I was looking up chicken recipes on the Internet, and I accidentally stumbled across a website that explained the history of chicken wings. According to that website, the city of Buffalo, New York declared July 29 to be 'National Chicken Wing Day' in 1977."
Mylène nodded. "That's a very interesting story, Marinette. Thanks for inviting us over here!"
"You're welcome!"
"You should invite us over for these kinds of things more often!" said Ivan.
Marinette chuckled. "Well…I'll try my best!"
"By the way, how's Luka doing?" asked Mylène.
"He's doing all right. We're going to a Hammerhead concert in a month."
"Who's Hammerhead?"
Ivan dropped his jaw and almost dropped the wing he was holding. "You don't know who HAMMERHEAD is!?"
Mylène almost dropped a wing out of shock at Ivan's outburst. "N-no. Who are they?"
"An American pen-pal of mine introduced me to 'em! They're this New Wave of British Heavy Metal band from the 80s, though they kinda sound like an early form of thrash metal. Their first three albums were the best, but they kinda got too commercial after that, but their newer stuff's cool, too."
Mylène swallowed and chuckled nervously. "Oh, that's great!"
"Here, lemme show you one of their songs…"
Ivan pulled up YouTube and put on their song "Death Blitz", from their 1980 self-titled debut album:
"Metal rains down on the cities,
Fighters fall down from the skies,
Soldiers fight on without pity,
Theirs is just to do and die!
It's a death blitz,
Survival not guaranteed!
It's a death blitz,
The battle call's one you'll heed!"
While Ivan was enjoying headbanging and making "devil's horns" gestures to the music, it was clear that the triple-guitar attack of Terence Keen, Neil Hopkins and Rex Allard was too much for the now-frightened Mylène, who clutched her ears in a desperate attempt to shut out the noise:
"Ivan, turn that off! My ears are bleeding!"
Marinette put her hand on Ivan's shoulder and smiled nervously. "Um…Ivan, I love Hammerhead too, but could we maybe save it for some other time? We wouldn't want anyone to get akumatized, would we?"
Ivan froze briefly, and then paused the song.
"Sorry, Mylène," said Ivan.
Mylène uncovered her ears. "It's OK. Next time, please warn me before you play that loud music, OK?"
Ivan gave a thumbs up. "OK!"
Everyone resumed eating their wings.
After all the wings were eaten, Ivan and Mylène assisted Marinette with the cleanup work. At one point, Marinette nearly tripped and dropped everything, but the two lovebirds prevented disaster.
"Thanks for helping out, you two!" said Marinette. "My cooking's always better when shared with others!"
"You're welcome!" said Mylène. "Those were the best chicken wings I've ever had!"
"Same here!" said Ivan.
"You're welcome to stay over if you want!"
"Actually, we kinda gotta get goin'," said Ivan. "I promised Mylène I'd take her to a movie later."
"Cool! What movie?"
"It's something I've never heard of called Rainbow Maid Café."
"It's supposed to be really good," said Mylène.
"Well, enjoy yourselves!" Marinette waved at Ivan and Mylène. "Have a nice day!"
"Bye!"
Ivan and Mylène waved back and held hands as they exited the Dupain-Cheng household, while Marinette smiled and clasped her hands to the side of her head as she watched them move on, hoping that their relationship would be a happy one forevermore.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
