For my friend Hallow Sisters On My Mind.

For a while, I've been aware of the similarities between the Halliwell sisters and the Hallow sisters from the Worst Witch 2017 series; three witches, close-knit, talented...so why not combine the two? The result? This collection of interconnected one-shots.

Enjoy!

The Village.

The village was in shambles. People were screaming in fear, panic and agony as the demonic horde of twisted monsters tore through them. What made it so insulting and so strange was the village was not non-magical, but a magical village. The demons had taken the entire village by surprise, tearing through the wards surrounding the village and protecting it from harm, before they had flooded in and began attacking.

Already several escape routes had been cut off, or transformed into traps, so when a witch or wizard used or tried to use them, they would find themselves surrounded by the demons who'd then feed off of their magic before sucking out their life force and their blood, and many witches and wizards had died.

The ground was covered with broken, twisted skeletal remains.

The Magic Council, composed of some of the more powerful witches and wizards in the country, had been desperately called, but nobody knew if the summons had worked. They were on their own for the time being.

In the air, witches were flinging powerful curses towards the demons; one witch, in particular, was throwing down bolts of lightning, which branched off in every direction according to the will of the witch herself, electrocuting the demons.

Many of the witches and wizards in the village were trying to help their children escape, they were shielding their younglings who were screaming and crying as the chaos shrouded them.

Another witch used a different trick, she would transform the demons into ice, which wasn't easy as many of the demons were made up of fire, but other demons were made completely of shadows, inspiring a number of the witches trying in vain to defend the village to create massive balls of light that drove the shadow demons away. Another witch threw balls of magic at the demons which exploded and destroyed the demons with magical shrapnel.

In the village itself, a wizard was waving his staff, throwing whips of lightning and fire at the demons, cutting them to pieces, but the lightning whips were far stronger, and more lethal than the flaming whip variety.

During the battle, Melinda was panting hard as she held up her shield, trying valiantly to stop the demons from closing in on the village while giving the younglings time to escape.

Beside her were her sisters, Mina, and Mary.

Mary was transferring herself around the village, taking whole numbers of demons by surprise by freezing them, giving Melinda and her Mina the time to blast them to pieces while they were frozen in time.

All three sisters had a power that the others lacked, but it didn't make them any less special or unique. Every witch and wizard had a unique power. It was just a matter of finding it.

Mary had the power to freeze time, while accelerating time around herself, and had the power of controlling lightning. Mina had the power to take brief glimpses into the future and was a wind, water, and fire elemental with the power of transfiguration and charms thrown in. Melinda had the power to move objects through her mind, while also being capable of pyrokinesis, the power of fire.

Singularly, the three witches were powerful in themselves. They'd been born in a family that wanted more children, and damn the witches' code, which stated only the eldest child should be supported.

But together, they were virtually unstoppable.

Mina growled when many demons surged forwards, their flaming bodies rushing towards her which reminded her of Melinda on a bad day. With a thought, she created an extreme monsoon above them; the sounds of their sudden shrieks of agony as their bodies were exposed to water. Mina then blasted them all with a spell charged with positive feelings, making them howl even more.

Mary appeared next to her, making Mina turn to her.

"We can't hold them forever," Mary panted. "I'm getting tired. This is the biggest workout I've ever had."

"Me too," Mina gasped, wishing she could take a break, ignoring the sight of their elder sister attacking several shadow demons, setting them on fire.

"I don't think the Magic Council is coming," Mary whispered.

Mina said nothing. She had already reached that conclusion. It was depressing, but it was true. "Yeah, if they were coming, they would have been here by now," she commented as she turned to the circle where the children were still being transported away. "How long does it take to send children away anyhow? You'd have thought they would have gone by now."

"Don't forget that the demons took us all by surprise, Mina," Mary chided her.

"I know," Mina rolled her eyes.

Melinda appeared next to them. "We're running out of time," she whispered, winded from the overuse of her magical powers. "We can't hold them back."

"Wait a minute," Mary was the youngest of the siblings, and she had another, more obscure, power of her own. "Blasting them forever is not going to help, it's time to change things up a little bit. We need to get rid of the demons at the same time. They'll just keep coming."

"What do you suggest, Mary?" Melinda asked with enviable patience.

"Imprison them in a picture," Mary said. "I can grab some paper and try to use that to imprison them."

Mina and Melinda glanced at each other. They had always been curious about Mary's strange power, but they didn't know if this was practical.

"That might work," Mina said at last.

Mary grinned.

But Melinda was going to burst her bubble. "But how do we know it will work, there's a chance the demons might have a magic strong enough to break through the drawing?"

As Mary visibly deflated, Mina turned to Melinda. "Mel, we have nothing else," she scolded her sister.

"Sorry," Melinda said sheepishly. "Alright. Get what you need and get back here, quickly," she added as Mary vanished with the transfer spell.

To the surprise of the villages and the Magic Council, who had arrived later on just in time to witness the spectacle of the village in ruins, while Melinda, Mary and Mina all chanted as the trio they were to banish the demons and to lock them within the large piece of paper, which trapped them inside it. Mina and Melinda did not have the power of their sister, but they joined their sibling in summoning the demons, adding their considerable power to Marys, and they captured them and locked them inside before Mina conjured several boxes imbued with locking runes designed for powerful prisoners. Melinda then vanished the box into Vanishment, that pocket dimension of magic where rubbish went.

The sisters had just wanted to be left alone, but the Magic Council demanded answers.

The trio answered them tiredly, but they had no idea what the Magic Council would do next….
