My dearest Prince,
It has been only a few hours since I saw you last. And yet I already need to see you again. The Moon feels so cold now I've known your warm embrace.
If even the tiniest part of you feels the same, please tell me so. I will meet you anywhere, any time no matter the cost, even if my mother the Queen would disown me for doing so!
Yours always,
Serenity
My beloved Princess,
Without you even the brightest days have been dark. Indeed, it is only at night, when I may look skywards and see that silver pearl hanging amidst the stars, that I feel anything other than numb.
If you can slip your four guards three days from now, go to the beach that lies far behind where the royal palace of Earth resides. I shall meet you there at ten o'clock tonight, having slipped Kunzite and the others.
Stay strong my love. I shall see you soon.
Yours eternally,
Endymion
Ten o'clock came and went and the beach remained deserted. It was half an hour before midnight that a tall regal man strode boldly onto the sand, the ocean breeze fluttering behind him.
It was considerably closer to midnight when his eyes widened with anticipation behind his mask. Even if his vision hadn't adjusted to the darkness the twin streaks of flowing silver pigtails were positively luminous. It was just one of the many things he found so very enchanting about Serenity.
He was here! Just as he promised!
And, whilst she was late as usual, Endymion did not wear a look of concern, or disappointment or even disapproval. Instead he stood there with a small, yet dashing smile upon his face, his arms stretched out to welcome her.
She mimicked his gesture, increasing her speed as much as her dress would allow, kicking sand up into the air as she accelerated into his embrace. An embrace that left her in absolute certainty that being here with her gave him life. That he would do anything to make her happy. That'd he'd even die to protect her. Although, of course, it was not merely his hug that had convinced her of that fact…
"I'm sorry I'm late," whispered Serenity as their arms wrapped more tightly around one another.
"That's okay…" Endymion whispered back, "...there was a reason I asked to meet you two hours early."
Serenity made a sound of mock outrage. "I really was on schedule but I just took awhile to get dressed."
"Never did get a hang of those 'wings' did you," chuckled Endymion.
Pulling back from their hug, Serenity's face scrunched up and she smacked Endymion on the shoulder.
"I didn't used to wear wings back then, Mamoru-baka!"
Enydmion simply chuckled again. "Pardon my slip up…Odango-atama."
As he said the nickname he brought a gloved hand up to affectionately pat one of his wife's twin hair buns. The action seemed to pacify Serenity who began to giggle.
It was then that the beach was suddenly bathed in an almost dazzling light. The luminescence was coming from the palace which was now displaying a massive crimson '10'.
"Maybe our New Year's resolution should be to commit more to our roles?"
The ten changed to a '9'.
"Sure…so long as the others don't catch us 'in character'. It'd be embarrassing if they ever found out that we…" Endymion's mouth suddenly formed into a very thin line.
'8'.
"...um…"
'7'.
"...was it Minako…please tell me it wasn't Minako…"
'6'.
"It wasn't Minako," assured Serenity.
'5'.
Endymion let out a sigh of relief.
'4'.
"It was Luna…" Serenity said in a small voice, "...who told Artemis…" Her voice had grown smaller. "...who then told Minako…"
'3'.
Despite speaking in practically a whisper, the effect did not soften the obvious embarrassment on Endymion's rather lined (yet handsome) face.
'2'.
"We're never going to live this down," he said, burying his head in his hands.
'1'.
As he let out a groan, his wife patted him on the same shoulder that she had previously smacked. "It's okay…after all most people won't be paying as much attention to us anymore. It'll all be about-"
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
The chorus rang out across the entire crystalline city as fireworks of ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue and burning amber ignited the sky! The smoke and lights seemed to magically converge spelling out the message: Happy New Year 13,999!
"Heh…the year of the rabbit…" said Serenity, smiling.
Endymion, having composed himself, was looking up at the large number, his face lit up in pink.
"The year of our little rabbit," he said softly.
Even as he said it, a new projection appeared upon the shining surface of the crystal palace. A projection of a smiling, waving, woman with bubblegum pink hair tied up in two rabbit-like buns, between which sat a crown that was all too familiar to Endymion and (in particular) Serenity.
Instinctively, the couple moved in closer together again, and proudly waved back at their daughter.
A/N: I thought I'd try something different this year with UsaMamo Week. Rather than pick one of the themed days, do multiple original fics based upon each of the themes or do one fic where each chapter uses one of the prompts for the week, I thought I'd make a one shot that incorporated one of the prompts from each day.
I have to say that really helped in pulling the fic together on my part.
The hardest part of the fic believe it or not was doing the mathematics on when the year of the rabbit would be in the far flung future.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed it and, if you did, please consider dropping a review if you can spare the time. Cheers!
Also, just to let you know I am involved in a discord called 'Moonlight Legends' which is dedicated to sharing all sorts of Sailor Moon fanworks, including other fanfics. If you would like to join so you can share your own work, get help with your current projects or just connect to other fan creators shoot me a PM and I'll send you an invite. All are welcome!
