I am Delia prior . My parent are the leader of abnegation:Andrew and Natalia prior . I also have two sisters and one brother whose names are :Beatrice ， Maria and Caleb prior . They are all two years younger than I am .
We all born in the city called Chicago. Except me who lost all the memories before 16 is frequently doubt about my real birth but other people all believe that Chicago is the only city which survived . The city was built after a Hundred Years' War for the purpose to protect the survivors and their children.
Our ancestors also built the faction systems to maintain the peace. The factions are :abnegation， erudite， dauntless， Candor and amity. Every of the factions also have their own duty:abnegation provides us with selfless government leader ， erudite provides us with technologies and educated teacher ， dauntless provides us with protection from within and without， Candor provides us with leaders in law and amity provides us with food and counsellors . Without any of them， we will never survive
When the kids turn into 16，they have to choose a faction. They can choose to stay in their original faction or leave them. However if we choose to leave our original faction ， that means we forsake our family permanently. That is all because we believe in faction before blood
I know that I am not selfless enough to be abnegation but I also don't want to leave my family. Before we become members， we only can be considered initiates . Whoever can't complete the initiation will become factionless
Factionless is worse than dying for me because it is to live without community and dignity.
"Sister it is time ." Beatrice is calling me .
Today is my birthday but also the day after three month that I can look myself in the mirror .
"I am coming." I say
I dressed up in my grey robe . I also put on one of my watch. Watch is the only decoration that we can wear because it is considered as practical. I sneak out of my room.
"Come Delia， everything is ready ." Mom smiles at me
My mom is so beautiful but she has to hide that beauty in abnegation. I wander why she is willing to sacrifice herself for this .
"Sit down Please." Mom takes out the scissor.
I sit down in front of the mirror . I change a lot in three months
"Sister you are for sure the prettiest girl in abnegation." Maria hugs me .
"Thank you so much by baby sister." I hug her back
My mom starts to trim my hair . My hair falls on the ground in a blond dull ring. Once mom is done ， she closes the mirror .
"It is all you get." Mom starts cleaning." Go and eat your breakfast. Max and his lieutenant are coming to our house to have dinner . Max is having his birthday today. The same day as you." Mom smiles." We will celebrate for both of you in case of exception."
"Thanks mom， I will go get something for max ." I look at my sisters." Do you guys want to go shopping with me?"
"Yes sister ， we want ." Beatrice nods
Today Caleb makes breakfast and I will make for our lunch.
"I will be back before noon." I say
I finish my breakfast very quickly . Maria and beatrice finished at the same time after I finished the breakfast .
"See you soon mom and dad." I kiss my mom on her cheek
"See you soon." Mom waves at me
Why max is coming to our house for dinner? Why dauntless is having a closer relationship with prior's family? I don't quite understand .
"Why max is friend with our mom?" Maria asks
"I don't know . Only mom knows the truth Maria ." I shrug
We get on the bus . Only dauntless and erudite are using train and car ， other factions are using bus all the time . The road are still constructing and my mom is the person who arranged for that.
"How far is the mall?" Beatrice asks
"Pretty close ." I answer
"Hey stiff." A Candor boy smirks at us
Candor and abnegation are not as much enemy as erudite are but we are not friends . We are friends with amity because we believe in similar values .
"We are not stiff." I clinch my teeth
"You guys are . You guys are the most selfish people in the world." The boy screams
"That's enough Peter Hayes， we have to go." An elder boy drags Peter down the bus ." I apologize for him."
He isn't as old as peter's father maybe he is just his brother .
"His brother is nice." Beatrice smiles." His name is Johnson Hayes .
"You know him?" I blink at beatrice .
"Yes ， I saw him before ." Beatrice says
We arrive at the mall very soon. I don't know what max will like but I know that he likes knives or guns. In abnegation we can't use gun or knives but it is for a dauntless mafia boss.
We walk into a store which sale knives . I see a knife on the wall which has the diamonds on it. It is so pretty. I take it off the wall
"How much is it?" I ask the dealer
"Two hundred dollar." Dealer points at the knife
I give him the money. My mom always give us money so I keep it and save it. I take the knife and put in my pocket
"Delia." Someone is calling me
"Abby?" I am surprised to see her here
Abby is my best friend but also niece for Jeanine Matthew . Jeanine Matthew is the ambassador for erudite . The leader of erudite now is my best friend too Jason coulter .
"Why are you here ?" Abby holds my hand
"Today is Max's birthday and he is coming to our house . Do you want to come to stay with us?" I smile at her
"Yeah sure , I can stay with you guys ." Abby nods at me
I look at the watch. It is 11 so I have to go home now
"We have to go now . You can be at our house at 12 ." I say." Today I have to make for lunch."
We say good bye to Abby and rush toward home . When we return home , dad isn't really happy.
"Is everything okay dad?" I ask
"Not really, erudite is writing a report about Marcus Eaton." Dad shakes his head
"What did they say?" I take the food from the fridge
Dad looks at me for a long time. I know that I shouldn't speak that much
"They said that he abused his son Tobias Eaton." Marcus smirks." How can Marcus , a selfless leader of abnegation done that? They are just jealous and desired for power ."dad punches the table
"However the only faction which tells the truth is Candor . Every faction believe in different values." I explain
"Erudite also tell truth based on facts and datas ." Caleb comes down stairs
Caleb always like erudite beside his selfless value but i wander which value will win when he is choosing.
"They maybe are right. Dad Marcus can be pretending to be selfless. Who knows what happened to his son ." I shrug
It is very soon dinner time . Abby and I are already watching tv with my sisters. The door is ringing .
"I am coming ." I stand up and walk toward the door
Max and a man comes into the house .I look that unfamiliar face . He has light skinned and has no hair . He has light brownish eye brows and eyes . His beard are also brown . He is strong with muscle and he looks so damn cold
"Hey Delia ." Max hands me a bunch of rose
"Is this for my mom?" I ask
"This is for you. I have something to tell you in the end ." Max smiles
I take the rose and let them in. The man follows him looks at me too
"I am Alan Davis . I am Max's lieutenant ." Alan takes out his hand.
"I am Delia ." I shake his hand
"Abby? Why are you also here?" Max is surprised
Abby and max know each other . I am not surprised by this
"I and Delia are best friends so she invited me ." Abby shrugs
"Nice , this is Alan Davis . The youngest lieutenant in history so far ." Max smiles
After dinner , I and max leave the house . I hand him the knife
"This is your birthday gift. What do you want to tell me ?" I ask
"Delia , I remembered that I saw you so many months ago . The first time I saw you that I fall in love with you immediately." Max grabs my shoulder
I look at Alan . He tilts his head to look away. Max loves me ? What hell is that? I don't know how to say
"I am sorry max . I already have someone in my heart. Plus, I don't really feel comfortable when a man approaches to me this quickly ." I shake my head
"It's okay Delia. It's my fault. I like your gift for real. I will wait for you."'max says
"You are welcome . Happy birthday." I say
Max looks at the sky for a minute . I don't know what he is thinking. He can't be crying.
"We have to go Alan . Good luck with your test tomorrow ." Max smiles at me
He leaves with Alan . Abby comes out and stands beside me
"I heard it. You already have someone in your heart?" Abby questions me
"No I was lying ." I say
"However the way you look at Alan Davis is weird . Do you like him?" Abby grabs my hand." You can tell me that will be a secret between both of us."
I don't know but I have a special feeling for him
"I don't know but I have a special feeling for him." I say
"That's right. It will change dramatically ." Abby giggles." I have to go too. See you very soon."
"See you tomorrow Abby."
I wave at her and she leaves our house . I return back to the house
"How is the conversation." Dad looks at me
"Good , he likes my gift ." I am sleepy." I am going to bed right now . Good night."
