Chapter Seven

I went back to the marketplace in search of Rain. Hoping that if anyone could help me find Jade, he could.

I wandered the marketplace for hours, asking some of the local patrons and sellers if they had seen a man dressed in purple. Some had, but they didn't know his name or where he lived.

I could feel precious time slipping away. I hoped I was not wasting it trying to find someone I'd never see again.

One of the shopkeepers recognized my description of him. Noting that he frequents Narena's jewelry store. Just a few shops down.

I spotted him at the counter. Trying on several different gold trinkets.

"You certainly fancy the regal look," I said.

He turned in surprise.

"Kitana!?"

He ran over and embraced me. I could feel my heart skip a beat. Almost forgetting my reason to find him in the first place.

"Rain, I need your help," I said, breaking away and looking up at him. "It's my friend Jade, she's been kidnapped."

"The girl who was with you when we met?" he asked.

"Yes!" I exclaimed. "We were in the forest and this four-armed creature grabbed her and suddenly vanished."

"Vanished?" he sounded intrigued.

"Into a portal," I clarified, "It all happened so fast. I barely got a look at him. Before I even react, Jade was gone," I said.

"You know something," he said.

He looked up hesitantly.

"From what you've told me, it sounds like the kidnapping may have been orchestrated by Shao Kahn."
